Work to rebuild a school in Myanmar, that was swept away by Cyclone Nargis, is completed with the help of Tzu Chi.
And Taiwan”s Environmental Protection Agency launches a new system of ”carbon footprint labels” for eco-friendly products.

1.釜石市簽約 Aiding 3,000 students in Kamaishi
But first up today, following the earthquake and tsunami on March 11, northeast Japan is still struggling to recover from the disaster. Many survivors remain unemployed, and unable to provide for their families. While Tzu Chi was recently carrying out cash distributions, to help the survivors, volunteers also signed a contract, with the city of Kamaishi, in Iwate Prefecture, to help 3,000 students with their lunch money and bus fares.
首先來看 3月11號地震與海嘯，重創日本東北後，災區面對重建仍然有很多的困難，許多倖存者因為失業無法賺錢養家，慈濟在發放見舞金的同時，也與岩手縣釜石市合作，要幫助三千位學生的午餐費用與交通費。
2.新澤西勘災 Post-Irene relief work in NJ
Last weekend, tropical storm Irene battered the east coast of the United States. New Jersey was among the hardest hit areas. When the storm weakened, local Tzu Chi volunteers immediately set out to check on the extent of the damage. As many of the main roads were blocked, the assessment team could only start with their own neighborhoods.
上周末艾琳颶風，造成美國東北部數州受災嚴重，新澤西也是重災區之ㄧ，慈濟志工在風雨歇後出外勘災，受限於許多主要道路中斷，只得先就近勘查社區受災情況。
3.屏東水位監測 Flood channel
Flood level markers, and closed road signs, are important warning signals that tell drivers to take an alternative route. But wouldn”t it be nice to check up on the road situation at home before venturing out in the middle of a storm? Now, Taiwan”s Pingtung government has set up a live video link, with cameras, at six of the county”s most flood-prone roads and bridges. People can view the flood situation at home on television.
橋梁水位或是哪裡要封橋，這些都是攸關民眾通勤和防災的重要參考依據，這些訊息如果也能讓民眾在風災時，成為居民外出訊息的依據，不是也很棒嗎，屏東縣政府首度和地方有線電視合作，將橋樑的水位變化及六個容易發生水患的地點，現在都能即時傳送到民眾的家中。

4.美慈青南非行 US youths learn by volunteering
How did you spend your summer holiday? One group of Tzu Chi Collegiate Youth volunteers from the United States put their vacation to good use, when they visited South Africa, to learn from local volunteers. Accustomed to a comfortable life back home, the young Americans said that visiting local townships, and helping AIDS patients, were life-changing experiences.
你的暑假怎麼過呢？一群美國慈青決定前往南非，向當地的志工好好學習，習慣了過好日子，前往約堡訪視愛滋病患，對這些年輕人可說是走入不同的人生。
5.緬甸高中完工 Ahlone No. 4 Basic High School reopens
From South Africa to Myanmar, where we take you to the No. 4 Basic High School in the Yangon area, which was badly damaged by Cyclone Nargis in 2008. Recently, work sponsored by Tzu Chi to restore the school was completed. To celebrate the beginning of a new chapter for the students, Burmese Tzu Chi volunteers delivered 2,785 sets of new supplies to the children. A special lesson was also conducted, in the new gymnasium, to encourage the youngsters to be more inwardly aware, and more respectful of all living things.
從南非轉到緬甸，帶大家到2008年在納吉斯風災中，受損嚴重的緬甸仰光雅倫第四高中，經由慈濟援建，現在已經重建完工，緬甸慈濟志工特地帶來2785份
上課所需的文具，此外還在新的體育館中，上一堂「懺悔即清淨」的靜思課程，引起不少學生的慈悲心。
6.泰報恩活動 Mother”s Day event at school
More schools in Bangkok invited Tzu Chi volunteers to organize Mother”s Day activities for their students on August 21. This time, most of the students came from underprivileged backgrounds.
泰國部份學校，前往舉辦母親節活動，而大多數的學生來自窮困家庭。

Being constantly mindful that life is indeed transient, one then learns to cherish every moment to practice Buddhist teachings in one”s life. Buddha reminds us of life”s impermanence to alert us and help us return to innocence. By understanding transience, we shall work harder.
時時警惕無常，才能把握當下，讓善法入心，用於日常生活。佛陀教誡無常，就是要大家有所警覺，回歸善良的本性。既知無常，就要更精進。
7.馬七月回響 Auspicious month blessing ceremonies
Tzu Chi volunteers have been holding a series of activities in Malaysia during the lunar month of July. At the latest event, volunteers encouraged residents to respect life, and protect the environment, instead of marking so-called Ghost Month in the usual way.
農曆七月，慈濟在馬來西亞舉辦了一連串的吉祥祈福會，鼓勵民眾學會尊重保護環境，而不是向亡靈拜拜祭祀，才是正確祈福的方式。
8.馬六甲運動會 Fun, games, and conservation!
Malaysia”s Malacca Da Ai Educare Center recently held its annual parent-child day. This year”s games and activities had the theme of conservation, so while everyone was having fun, they also learned about recycling.
馬來西亞馬六甲慈濟大愛兒童教育中心舉辦親子運動會，今年的運動會特別融入了環保，讓親子同樂的同時，也能更加了解環保清淨在源頭的意義。
9.莊東明善循環 Ripple effect of Water Repentance
Although the Water Repentance musical is over, interesting stories from the people who took part continue to emerge. For example, Tzu Chi volunteer Zhuang Dongming(莊東明), from Taichung, loves eating meat. So the six-month vegetarian diet, required by cast members, was extremely difficult for him. Finally, he caved in, and secretly had a bowl of beef noodles... only for karma to catch up with him, the very next day.
水懺經藏演繹圓滿了，這不是結束，而是另一個善循環的開啟，台中慈濟志工莊東明，從小愛吃葷食，這次入經藏需要茹素6個月，十分煎熬，抵擋不了口慾，他偷偷吃了牛肉麵，卻立刻得到了警惕。
10.歷史上的今天 On this day, the 1st of September
1923 Great Kanto Earthquake
A 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck the Kanto region, in Japan, at 11.58am, on this day in 1923. The quake lasted for at least 4 minutes, and aftershocks continued, causing over 140,000 deaths and some 600,000 buildings to collapse. On the same day in 1960, the Japanese government declared the anniversary of the earthquake, as an annual ”Disaster Prevention Day”.
1939 Beginning of WWII
The German invasion of Poland on this day in 1939 was considered by many to be the beginning of the Second World War, with Britain and France declaring war on Germany two days later. Considered to be the deadliest global conflict, the war did not end until the Japanese surrender in 1945, and resulted in over 60 million fatalities. The United Nations was later established to maintain international harmony and prevent further conflicts.
1982 Kenting National Park
Kenting National Park is Taiwan”s first national park. Situated in the Hengchun Peninsula, the park is surrounded by sea on its east, west and south sides. The 18,000 hectare sized park includes coral reef cliffs and coastal zones. The diverse terrain and tropical climate helps sustain a rich variety of flora and fauna.
1985 Titanic wreck found
After hitting an iceberg and sinking into the Atlantic Ocean on 15 April, 1912, the wreckage of Titanic was only located off Newfoundland nearly 74 years later, on this day in 1985, by an American-French expedition led by Jean-Louis Michel and Dr. Robert Ballard. The discovery also led to the increase popularity of ocean exploration.
1986 Tzu Chi Companion Bi-weekly
The Tzu Chi Cultural Center, funded by Pumen Library, established the Tzu Chi Companion Bi-weekly on this day in 1986 and Chen Huijian was made the chief editor. The fortnightly magazine also served as a communication bridge between the foundation and its members.
1923年，日本關東大地震防災紀念日，在1923年的這一天，上午11點58分，日本關東地區發生規模7.9強震，地震持續了至少四分鐘，緊接著發生餘震，造成超過14萬人罹難，60萬棟建築倒塌，在1960年的這一天地震的紀念日，日本政府宣佈9月1日為一年一度的防災日。
1939年，二戰爆發，重建全球秩序，在1939年，德國在這一天入侵波蘭，許多學著宣稱這一天為世界第二大戰的開始，英國與法國在兩天後也向德國宣戰，被稱為破壞性最強的全球性戰爭，直到1945年日本投降才結束，總共造成超過600萬人傷亡，這場戰爭促使聯合國的成立，來維護世界和平及防止戰爭。

1986年，慈濟道侶半月刊，誠正信實報新聞，由普門文庫捐助所成立的慈濟文化中心，在1986的這一天創辦慈濟道侶半月刊，由陳慧劍擔任總編輯，慈濟道侶半月刊同時兼負慈濟基金會與會員的溝通橋梁。
11.發現碳標籤 Carbon footprint labels make a mark
On Tuesday, the Taiwanese government awarded ”carbon footprint labels” to 14 companies that passed a stringent set of standards. The label clearly shows how much CO2 was emitted, by the choice of raw materials, in the manufacturing process, and in product delivery and final disposal.
周二環保署舉行頒獎典禮，總共有14家企業取得國內「碳標籤」認證，產品清楚標示所釋放的二氧化碳量，從原料取得、製造過程、產品運輸到使用廢棄等。
