In our featured report on Taiwan”s Dongsha Island, we meet the men and women who are doing research on the island”s opulent natural resources.
Later, Paraguay”s first lady makes the Tzu Chi Foundation one of her stops in her tour around Taiwan.

1.NGO閉幕 3rd day of UN DPI/NGO conference
On the last day of the 64th annual United Nations DPI/NGO Conference in Bonn, Germany, a bomb scare briefly interrupted the proceedings. Thankfully, participants were safe and the conference concluded successfully.
在德國波昂第64屆聯合國，公共資訊部門非政府組織年會的第三天，因為一場被懷疑是炸彈攻擊的事件，而影響了慈濟代表團的用餐時間，還好最後大家都平安，讓會議圓滿閉幕。
2.板橋外勞健檢 Free clinic for foreign workers
Moving to Taiwan, a large-scale Tzu Chi free clinic was held at Banqiao Station in New Taipei City for foreign workers. The event provided ophthalmology, dental treatment and other medical services.
鏡頭轉到台灣，在板橋車站為外籍勞工舉辦大型的健檢和義診，提供眼科、牙科等各項免費檢查。
3.北居關搬家 Caring for Ichthyosis family
Ichthyosis is a non-contagious but unsightly disease that causes the skin to resemble fish scales. In Taipei, one family of five has three members with the condition. Facing prejudiced neighbors, the family has been forced to move time and again. Just recently, they were forced to relocate again. Thankfully, this time Tzu Chi volunteers are at their side to help make things easier.
魚鱗癬症是非傳染性遺傳性皮膚病，讓患者的皮膚看起來有如魚鱗，台灣台北有一家五口，其中三人患有這種病，因為受到鄰里的歧視被迫搬遷多次，最近他們又被逼搬遷一次，還好這次有慈濟志工的幫忙。

4.無語良師在台灣(1) Silent Mentors for medical students
In Tzu Chi, body donors for medical research and education are called Silent Mentors, since they teach in silence. We have a story on body donors in Taiwan, and how their selfless acts have inspired countless future medical professionals.
慈濟稱大體捐贈者為無語良師，他們默默無語成就醫師建立醫術，為您帶來的報導，來看台灣的無語良師，他們捨身奉獻，感動了許多未來的醫護人員。
5.大體蔡麗翎 Final wish: to be a Silent Mentor
In the next story we meet one of the Silent Mentors, Tzu Chi volunteer Cai Liling, who donated her body to medical research. Her four daughters have also followed suit by registering with Tzu Chi”s silent Mentor program.

In our continuing series from Taiwan”s beautiful Dongsha Island, we meet some of the researchers there, who say the conditions are ideal for research, because the island is unspoiled by human interference.

1945 Sino-Japanese War ends
The Second Sino-Japanese War began in 1937 and ended on this day in 1945 with Japanese surrender. The commander-in-chief of the China Expeditionary Army Yasuji Okamura presented the Japanese Instrument of Surrender to Chinese general He Yingqin(何應欽). As a result, Taiwan and the Penghu Islands were restored to the Republic of China.
1948 Two Koreas
Korea was under Japanese rule for 35 years until 1945. Thereafter, the Soviet and the American troops respectively occupied the north and south of the 38th parallel. Despite a proposal for a unified Korea in the 1943 Cairo Declaration, in August of 1948, South Korea was formally established, while North Korea was created by Kim Il Sung on this day of the same year. The Korean Peninsula was hence divided into two states.
1968 Taiwan”s 9 year education
In 1968, Taiwan”s compulsory education extended from six to nine years. On this day of the same year, then provincial governor Huang Jie(黃杰) hosted the joint opening ceremony for all middle schools in the country. The change in the national education policy aimed to raise the level of education among the Taiwanese people.
1976 Chairman Mao passes away
Mao Zedong was the founding father of the PRC. Although his efforts to revolutionize China”s social structure were controversial and remain hotly debated, Mao is still widely regarded in China as a great leader. On this day in 1976, Mao Zedong passed away in Beijing at the age of 83.
2000 TIMA convention
TIMA volunteers from all over the world gathered at the Dalin Tzu Chi Hospital in Taiwan, on this day in year 2000, to discuss their efforts in voluntary healthcare services. Participants also spent the Mid-Autumn Festival, a time for reunion in the Chinese world, at the Jing Si Abode. Since then, TIMA convention was made into an annual event to coincide with the Moon Festival.
1945年，何應欽代表接受日軍投降，中國抗日戰爭發生在1937年與1945年之間，在1945年的這天，中國陸軍總司令何應欽，接受日軍參謀長小林淺三郎的降書，同時台灣與澎湖由國民政府接管。
1948年，北朝鮮建國首相金日成，曾經被日本殖民統治三十五年的朝鮮半島，直到1945年日本投降，才由開羅會議決議，美蘇兩國以北緯三十八度為界，而南朝鮮卻在1948年八月成立大韓民國。北朝鮮在同年的這天成立共和國，以金日成為首相，確立了朝鮮半島分裂的局勢。
1968年，台灣九年國教開始實施，1968年，台灣國民義務教育從六年延長為九年，這天由省主席黃杰主持國民中學聯合開學典禮，落實這項教育方案，提升國民教育水準。
1976年，中國最高領導人毛澤東逝世，中國共產黨人民解放軍的創始人毛澤東，進行社會主義改造，儘管評價兩極，卻是中國永遠的毛主席，這天逝世於北京，享年83歲。
2000年，慈濟人醫年會首屆登場，來自全球的慈濟人醫會志工這天齊聚大林慈濟醫院，分享各地義診經驗與成果，也回到花蓮靜思精舍共度中秋，從此定下每年中秋舉辦國際人醫年會的慣例。
8.昆明農博會 Tzu Chi invited to expo in Kunming
In China”s Yunnan Province, Tzu Chi was once again invited to participate in the local agriculture expo that takes place yearly in Kunming. The NGO”s stall served as both a physical and spiritual rest stop for busy expo visitors.
中國的雲林省，慈濟再度受邀參加昆明國際農業博覽會，慈濟的展示館在繁忙的展示場，成了一個身心靈的休息站。
9.巴第一夫人訪花 Paraguayan 1st lady visits Tzu Chi
The first lady of Paraguay, Mercedes Lugo de Maidana(my-DA-na), went to visit Tzu Chi while touring Taiwan. The first lady said she admired the way volunteers served without regard to religion or ethnic background, and described Master Cheng Yen as the ”embodiment of Tzu Chi wisdom”.
巴拉圭第一夫人梅西德絲魯戈，訪台期間也前來慈濟參訪，梅西德絲魯戈女士 讚嘆慈濟人，跨越宗教與種族的大愛，也推崇證嚴法師是「慈悲智慧的化身」。
