Coming up in today”s show, Tzu Chi volunteers in Indonesia distribute aid to victims of a massive fire in Jakarta.
We continue our series of reports from Taiwan”s Dajia River, looking at the problems of landslides and pollution caused by high-altitude farms upstream.
And volunteers in Ladysmith, South Africa, distribute Taiwanese rice to the families of poor school children at a local primary school.

1.泰勘災熱食 Ongoing flood relief in Thailand

But we start today”s show in Thailand, where this year”s monsoon season has inundated a third of the country with flood water. In the Ayutthaya and Nakhonsawan areas, Tzu Chi has been providing a hot meal service to trapped residents, with the support of local communities. In Ayutthaya alone, more than 3,000 lunch boxes are needed each day. Last week, torrential rain also caused landslides in Chiang Mai. Once again, volunteers arrived promptly with aid.

節目一開始，先來到泰國，這裡今年的雨季讓全國三分之一泡在水裡，慈濟人在大城府和那空沙旺府，因為有當地的居民的加入，同步展開熱食供應給被大水困助的災民，光是大城府一天就需要超過三千個便當，上個禮拜大雨在清邁造成山崩，志工緊急勘災，迅速送來應急金。


2.雅加達火災 1,741 homeless after fire

On September 9, near a fish market in Jakarta, Indonesia, an air conditioner caught fire. Fanned by strong winds, the blaze spread quickly to other houses, most of which were made of wood. 121 buildings were burnt down, leaving 225 families, with a total of 1,741 people, without homes. The Tzu Chi Indonesia Chapter prepared supplies to give to the residents, including blankets and clothing, giving those who had lost everything a measure of comfort.

九月九日在印尼雅加達一座魚市場區，由於一戶人家冷氣機冒火，在強風助長下，大火快速蔓延，這區大部分都是木板屋，導致災情嚴重，121戶房子付之一矩，讓225個家庭1741人頓失家園，慈濟印尼分會趕緊準備物資給災民，包括毛毯、衣服、拖鞋等用品，讓一無所有的他們得到絲絲溫暖。


3.基隆火災清理 Fire rips through Keelung family home

Another fire, this time in Taiwan”s Keelung City. The blaze, on the morning of September 23rd, which was caused by faulty wiring, swept through all four floors of an old family home. But apart from an injured foot, there were no casualties. Neighbors helped clear up some of the mess, and the Tzu Chi liaison office in Keelung mobilized over 20 volunteers to help salvage and clean up the family”s possessions.

另一場火災，但是發生在基隆市，九月二十三日早上，一棟四層老舊屋舍，因浴室電線走火發生火警，但是除了男主人腳姆指裂傷，其餘沒有人受傷，左右鄰居協助，只清理了一部分，轉向慈濟基隆聯絡處求助，志工立即動員 20多人分工合作，協助清理打掃。

4.老師謝謝你(2)吳庭妤 Bedside teachers in Kaohsiung

Children are expected to go to school. But what about those who have physical disabilities, or are bedridden? In Kaohsiung, Taiwan, the city is providing private tutors, who go teach needy children, either at their homes, or at hospital. Continuing our series on distinguished teachers, we meet one of these mobile tutors - Ms. Wu Tingyu(吳庭妤).

到了學齡的孩童應該要去上學，但假使因為生病或受傷，這些孩童又該怎麼辦呢？目前在台灣的高雄有推動床邊教學，專門的老師到家中、到醫院為孩子上課，繼續我們優異老師系列的相關報導，我們今天來認識從事這行的吳庭妤老師。


5.感念師恩(二)黃思誠 Passing knowledge forward

Continuing our Teachers” Day series, our next distinguished educator is Dr. Huang Sicheng(黃思誠), from Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital. The accomplished gynecologist says he owes his success to all of his teachers and professors, and will therefore do his best to pass on his knowledge to the next generation.

下一位要認識的傑出老師是台北慈濟醫院的醫師黃思誠，這位優異的婦產科醫師說，因為過去受到多位老師與教授的照顧，成就了今日的他，也因此他也努力提攜後進來回報。


6.校長師鐸獎 Wenhua school principal recognized

Next, we meet the principal of Wenhua文華 Senior High School in Taichung, Taiwan, Mr. Liu Yongshun (劉永順), who received a teaching award from the Ministry of Education 25 years ago. This year, he won the prestigious award again. The popular principal was congratulated by his pupils.

在我們接來的報導，來認識台中市文華高中校長劉永順，二十五年前獲得師鐸獎，如今再次獲得師鐸獎，劉永順取消了學校的寒假課輔，並提供學生多元營隊，深受家長的肯定。

It is not wise to indulge in instant gratification indifferent of what is happening around us. The world”s excessive garbage problem is caused by men”s ignorance. We can help by recycling and reusing, which is true wisdom.

只著重現在的享受而不顧其他，實為不智。今天地球上有這麼多垃圾，都是因為我們無知而製造，應該致力資源回收，讓物歸源頭，可再製新品，這才是真有智慧。


7.大河劫大甲溪(2) Farming fears on Dajia River

The Lishan area of the central mountain range is a patchwork of farm fields, for high-altitude vegetables and fruit trees. But, by clearing the land, the problem of landfalls into the Dajia River below has gotten worse. In the latest in our series of in-depth reports from Taiwan”s Dajia River, we go to the source of the waterway, to find out more.

梨山位在中台灣，開墾為菜園，種植高冷蔬菜，不過因為大量開墾造成大甲溪下游的重大災害，今天的大河劫大甲溪專題中，帶大家到河床邊去看看。

1913
Diesel vanished at sea
German mechanical engineer Rudolf Diesel, who at the age of 34 invented the thermal efficient diesel engine in 1893, was last seen alive on this day in 1913 on a vessel crossing the North Sea. His design which replaced the steam engine is more fuel-efficient than gasoline engines. With modernization and weight reduction, diesel engines are now commonly found in automobiles.

Death of Willem Einthoven
Dutch doctor and physiologist Willem Einthoven, who invented the first practical electrocardiogram in 1903, died on this day in 1927 at the age of 67. His invention which helps diagnose heart disorders won him a Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1924.

1973
Cloud Gate Dance Theatre
Named after a legendary dance of ancient China, Yun-men or Cloud Gate Dance Theatre founded by Lin Hwai-min (林懷民), debuted in Taichung, Taiwan on this day in 1973. It was the first modern dance troupe in the Chinese world.

1999
The 1st Da Ai Village
After the 9/21 earthquake of 1999, Tzu Chi helped built a prefab community, on this day of the same year, to house displaced quake victims in Nantou County”s Zhongxing New Village. It was the first of its kind in Taiwan. The prefabs were ready to be moved into a month later.

1913年，柴油引擎發明者，狄塞爾逝世，在1893年34歲時發明柴油引擎的德國工程師狄塞爾，於1913年的今天，坐船通過歐洲北海時離奇消失，他的設計取帶了蒸氣引擎，也比汽油引擎有更高的效能，透過現代化與輕量化，越來越多的汽車採用柴油引擎。

1927年發明心電圖，愛因托芬逝世於1903年，發明心電圖與測量裝置的荷蘭醫師與生理學家愛因托芬，在1927年的今天與世長辭，享年67，他的發明能夠偵查心臟的異常，並幫助他得到1924年的諾貝爾醫學獎。

1973年，雲門舞集首次公演，以中國最古老的舞蹈雲門為名，由林懷民所創立的雲門舞集，1973年的這天在台灣台中首演，是華人世界第一個當代舞團。

1999年，首批大愛屋動工，安頓身心迎新生，在台灣九二一地震之後於同年的今天，慈濟在南投中興新村興建第一批簡易屋，提供給災民居住，一個月後完工入住。


9.雷迪布蘭大米 Winter relief in Ladybrand

Ladybrand is a South African city on the border with Lesotho. Because it is close to the Lesothan capital, of Maseru, many Taiwanese businessmen, who have factories in Lesotho, live in Ladybrand, including some Tzu Chi volunteers. These volunteers carry out missions in both countries. In our next story, we take you to Ladybrand, where volunteers recently concluded a winter aid program, that helped 254 families.

南非的雷迪布蘭鄰近賴索托，也因此許多在賴索托有投資的台灣商人都居住在此，包括很多慈濟人，也因此這些志工在兩國之間服務人群，接下來要帶您來到雷迪布蘭，志工最近在這裡完成冬令發放，幫助了254個家庭。
