In Bonn, Germany, Tzu Chi is attending the 64th annual United Nations Department of Public Information Non-Government Organization Conference. In New Jersey, the United States, Tzu Chi volunteers survey flood damage left by Hurricane Irene in Cedar Grove. And, a group of recreational scuba divers in Taiwan enjoy their time under the sea while also doing their part for the environment as well.

1.NGO開幕 Tzu Chi at UN DPI/NGO conference
We start today”s show in Germany, where the United Nation”s Department of Public Information held its 64th annual gathering for non-government organizations. The theme of this year”s UN DPI/NGO conference was ”Sustainable Society, Responsive Citizens”. Tzu Chi was one of more than 150 NGO represented at the event, with a team of 11 volunteers from countries including the United States, Great Britain and Germany. We join the conference at the opening event, outside the venue, where 13-year-old Felix Finkbeiner planted a tree.
首先一開始帶大家到德國，在這裡舉辦第64屆聯合國公共資訊部門，非政府組織年會今年大會的主題是”永續性的社會 負責任的世界公民” ，今年慈濟是全世界150個非政府組織參與者之ㄧ，共有來自美國、英國和德國，11位慈濟志工代表出席，我們帶大家一起去看看開幕式，首先，在外場，13歲的菲力克斯參與植樹的活動。
2.新澤西勘災 Tzu Chi volunteers survey Irene damage
Next to the United States, where Hurricane Irene recently left a trail of destruction in many areas along the east coast. In New Jersey, swollen rivers caused flooding in some suburbs. Last Saturday, September third, Tzu Chi volunteers surveyed the disaster area in Cedar Grove to see what they could do to help local residents.
接下來直轉到美國，艾琳颶風在美國東岸部份地區造成的災難，在新澤西，河川水位暴漲造成許多住家淹水嚴重，上周六 9月3日，志工在雪松林市展開勘災，希望能夠盡快提供適切的援助。
3.奧克蘭推五元 Action in Oakland
Staying in the United States, volunteers in Oakland, California promoted their ”Power of Five” program to encourage people to donate 5 US dollars a month to help children in South Africa, and homeless people in the United States. As well as taking out their collection tins at a health day event hosted by a local church, volunteers also signed people up at the annual Chinatown Street Fest in Oakland.
也是美國的報導，加州奧克蘭的慈濟志工積極推動”五元的力量”， 要幫助南非愛滋兒和美國街友，慈濟志工除了在教會的年度健康日上募款外，也在中國城擺街會積極宣導。]

4.北京佛博展 First expo for Beijing Jing Si Bookstore
In China”s Beijing, Tzu Chi was invited to attend a Buddhist goods and culture expo from September second to the fifth. This is the first public exhibition attended by the Beijing Jing Si Books and Cafe since its opening on June 18th.
在中國北京，慈濟獲邀參與從9月2號開始至5號，第二屆中國國際佛寶文化博覽會，這是北京靜思書軒6月18號成立以來，首度參與的外展。
5.大船渡志工 Seeds of love sprouting
As Tzu Chi continues to dispatch disaster relief teams to help northeast Japan cope with the March 11th earthquake and tsunami, seeds of compassion planted in the hearts of local people have began to sprout. We now take you to Ofunato City of Iwate Prefecture. Here Ms. Kazuko Tanaka has been inspired to promote Tzu Chi”s spirit to help rally more people to join the relay of love.
自日本311強震與海嘯過後，慈濟持續派遣賑災團前往東北災區，而災民心中善的種子，受到啟發也開始發芽，現在帶您來到岩手縣的大船渡市，這裡有位田中和子女士，要把慈濟的精神傳出去，帶動愛的循環。
6.印天主堂動土 Tzu Chi”s universal love
Now to Indonesia, many years ago an entrepreneur donated a ten-hectare plot of land to Tzu Chi in North Sumatra Province. Today, the organization is in turn donating this land to help build a Catholic Church. In our next report, we join the volunteers at the ground-breaking ceremony.

Conservation work is a must-learn lesson for our generation. Tzu Chi volunteers lead by example and also teach members of the public about environmentalism.
The collective strength of volunteers can help purify our souls and safeguard the planet. Recycling stations are fields of cultivation, where knowledge is learned, and wisdom is gained.
環保是現代人必修的課程，慈濟人在環保道場中，以身作則，為大眾做教育，集中力量淨化人心，也呵護大地，是身體力行的道場。大家於此共修，知道理、長智慧。
7.淨海人物 Cleaning up the coastline
In our next report, we introduce you to a group of divers, who decided to deal with the increasing amount of garbage floating on Taiwan”s coastline. The group has a Facebook page and calls itself the Divers Alliance for a Clean Ocean. Using rice bags and milk bottles as garbage collectors, the divers come together on a regular basis to help pick up junk from the seafloor.

Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital on the east coast of Taiwan has been treating cases of Parkinson”s disease for ten years. Since 2002 until today, over 860 patients with the brain disorder have been served by the hospital. To celebrate Hualien Tzu Chi General”s 25th anniversary, and mark a decade of Parkinson”s treatment, the hospital held a special gathering for patients and their family members.
東台灣，花蓮慈濟醫院治療巴金森氏症10年有成，2002年至今，已治療超過860例，今年適逢花蓮慈院25周年，同時也是神經功能科暨巴金森治療中心10周年，花蓮慈院擴大舉辦病友聯誼會活動。

1522 World”s 1st circumnavigation
In 1519, a fleet of five ships, captained by Portuguese navigator Ferdinand Magellan, set sail from Spain towards the Spice Islands via a westward route. As the explorers made their way to the Philippines, Magellan was killed in a battle on Mactan Island. The surviving crew continued their journey, and on this day in 1522, completed the first voyage around the world.
1998 Akira Kurosawa dies
Japanese director, producer and screenwriter Akira Kurosawa is known for his acclaimed films, such as Rashomon, Seven Samurai, The Shadow Warrior and Dreams. His success attracted international attention to the Japanese film industry. In 1990, Kurosawa received a Lifetime Achievement Academy Award; and on this day in 1998, he passed away at the age of 88.
1999 Da Ai Drama airs
Da Ai TV”s first drama series, ”A Cai” aired on this day in 1999. The shows are all based on real life stories, of different Tzu Chi volunteers, and how they found their way to a better life from a less than enlightening past. The popular dramas have a loyal following in Taiwan and Chinese communities around the world.
1522年，麥哲倫船隊完成環球首航，1519年麥哲倫船隊從西班牙出發，由西邊航向摩鹿加群島，船對抵達菲律賓時，麥哲倫一場戰役中陣亡，他的同伴繼續航行，在1522年這天返回西班牙，完成全球首航。
1998年，電影大師黑澤明逝世，日本電影大師黑澤明編導羅生門，七武士、影武者以及夢等作品，將日本電影推向國際，1990年獲得奧斯卡終身成就獎，1998年逝世，享年八十八歲。
1999年，真人實事，大愛劇場首播，大愛電視台第一部連續劇阿彩，1999年這天播出第一集，以慈濟志工真人實事編劇，呈現轉迷為悟的人生歷程，大愛劇場創造收視口碑，深得華人觀眾喜愛。

The most popular show on this channel is the nightly Da Ai Drama soap opera. Based on true stories, the programs tell the dramatic tales of Tzu Chi volunteers, and how they turned their once desperate lives around. As you just saw, the first ever Da Ai Drama - ”A Cai” - aired on this day in 1999. In our history feature, we meet the first manager of the drama department at Da Ai TV station, and the real ”A Cai”, whose life was depicted in the first show.
