Welcome to Da Ai Headlines. I”m Dennis Wu. Thank you for joining us. In the Philippines, Tzu Chi helps the country recover from the damage brought by the recent Typhoon Nesat. In Taiwan, both the Dajia River Valley and Lishan are facing the problems of erosion and flood damage. And, we meet three award-winning teachers in Taichung”s Dali High School, who pass on more than just knowledge to their students.

1. 菲尼莎慈濟 Distributions for typhoon victims

Typhoon Nesat has caused severe flooding in the Philippines, and the Tzu Chi Philippines Chapter mobilized volunteers to assess disaster areas and carry out aid distributions. Today, we join them in the Tondo area of Manila and San Mateo of Rizal Province.

尼莎颱風在菲律賓造成淹水災情，慈濟菲律賓分會動員志工前往勘災，以及發放物資，今天我們跟著慈濟志工，來到馬尼拉的敦洛區和黎剎省的聖馬刁鎮。


2. 美學校發放 Backpack food program in California

In the United States, Tzu Chi volunteers in northern California first came up with the idea of a backpack relief program to help feed students from low-income families. Now, their counterparts in the south of the state are also following suit.

在美國，北加州的慈濟志工率先推動幸福校園食物背包計畫，幫助弱勢的學童能夠溫飽，而現在南加州的志工也展開行動。

3. 愛的轉變 Gratitude on Teacher”s Day

At National Hemei Experimental School in Changhua, students paid homage to their teachers on Teachers Day by presenting a video they put together. Among the pupils appearing in the film was a once problem student, who has been transformed by his teacher”s love.

台灣彰化和美實驗學校，在教師節，學生們透過拍攝紀念影片向老師表達感恩，影片當中的一位同學，因老師的陪伴而改變了。


4. 身殘有師愛 Growing through puppetry

Now a third grade student in Taichung, Chen Zhiyu(陳致宇) has had symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder since he was a baby. At first his parents let the boy did as he pleased, but thanks to the help of puppet theater master, Liao Qiquan,( 廖啟泉) now Zhiyu has improved much and is now attending regular classes in school.

台中市東寶國小三年級學生陳致宇，發展遲緩，伴隨過動症狀，一開始，家長隨著小孩的興趣發展，不過因為布袋戲老師廖啟泉的幫助，讓陳致宇成長很多，也能進入普通班就讀。

On Helping One Another
If those who have moved out of harm”s way can reach out a helping hand to those in need it can make a big difference. Although the world is troubled by unending disasters, if everyone just gives a little bit, great things can be accomplished.

開示：只要平安的人能伸出雙手，就地就可以發揮很大的能力、財力與人力。雖然天下災難偏多，人人若能發揮愛心，點滴之愛也能累積成做大事的力量。


5. 大河劫大甲溪(3) Forces of nature in R. Dajia valley

In our continuing series of features on Taiwan”s great Dajia River, we look at the problem of erosion and flood damage in the scenic valley area. Engineers seem to be fighting a losing battle against the river. There is a similar story at the source of the Dajia, in Lishan, where local farmers say their fields and orchards are slowly slipping into the valley.

今天持續的「大河劫大甲溪」紀實報導，來看看這個地區，受到地層侵蝕以及水患問題，工程學家似乎也在與地層鬆滑的現象對抗，大甲溪、梨山就有這樣的情況，居民房子和果園會隨著地層慢慢滑動，受著地滑災害之苦。

Nuremberg verdicts
The victorious Allied forces of World II put together a military tribunal held in Nuremberg, Germany to prosecute 24 of the most important captured leaders of Nazi Germany, The verdicts of the Nuremberg Trials were released on this day in 1945 after ten months of hearings. It was the first International Military Tribunal.

1973
TC free clinic in Taitung
After seeing numerous families in Taiwan”s backwater Taitung County suffer because they couldn”t afford to get their illnesses treated, Master Cheng Yen called for medical volunteers to hold free clinics beginning in May of 1973. On this day of the same year, the third free clinic was held in Guanshan, which was joined by volunteers from Hualien, Yuli, and Taitung.

2006
TIHAA Seminar
Formed in 2004, the Tzu Chi International Humanitarian Aid Association helped south Asia cope with the 2004 tsunami. On this day in 2006, its members met in Hualien”s Jing Si Abode for the first time to share their insights on international relief work and improve how Tzu Chi carried out its aid mission.

1946年，紐倫堡大審，判決公佈。二次世界大戰之後由得勝的聯軍，在德國紐倫堡組織軍事法庭，審判被捕德國納粹黨的24名核心戰犯，經過十個月的審理，於1946年的這天宣判，是世界歷史上第一個國際法庭。

1973年，台東義診，濟助貧病。證嚴法師在台東關懷窮困居民時，看到生病的民眾，因為沒有錢就醫而延誤病情，因此號召當地善心醫護志工，從五月份起舉辦義診，並於同年的今天，在關山舉辦第三次的義診，由來自花蓮、玉里，以及台東當地的醫護人員和教師擔任志工。　

2006年，慈濟人道援助會首次研習營。成立於2004年的慈濟人援會，自從南亞海嘯開始運作賑災行動後，2006年的這天在花蓮靜思精舍集合，分享國際賑災實務經驗，以建制更周延的賑災作業系統。


7. 老師謝謝你(3)大里師鐸獎 Trio of award-winning teachers

In celebration of Teachers” Day this week, we continue our series on great educators in Taiwan, by introducing you to three award-winning teachers at the same high school in Taichung. The trio picked up their respective awards for helping the school save power, teaching the children about moral values, and inspiring the students to learn music.

本周的教師節，持續來關心台灣的教育成就。在台中，同一所學校就有三位獲得失鐸獎，這三位得獎老師，有的強調環保節能，有的著重品德教育，有的則致力推動音樂。


8. 感念師恩(3)許博智 From student to colleague

Next, we go to Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital, where Dr. Xu Bozhi(許博智) was inspired to study the difficult art of oral surgery by his mentor Dr. Xia Yiran(夏毅然), and now his former teacher is both his colleague and boss at the hospital department.

接著帶大家到台北慈院，許博智醫師在就讀口腔外科期間，受到老師夏毅然的教誨，讓他度過學業困難，現在卻和老師成為同科別職場的同仁。


9. 師徒血腫科 Students stand on teachers” shoulders

Another teacher-student pair who are now colleagues are Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital superintendent Dr. Gao Ruihe(高瑞和), and his former pupil Dr. Wu Yifeng(吳懿峰). The two work together at the Department of Hematology and Oncology, which was built-up single-handedly by Dr. Gao.

另外一位老師與學生關係的是同在花蓮慈院服務的高瑞和院長，和學生吳懿峰醫師，兩位都在血液腫瘤科，吳懿峰醫師也在高院長的傳承與指導下，已經開枝展葉。


10. 醫學生非洲義診 Free clinics for the needy

Over 20 students and teachers from Taiwan”s China Medical University took advantage of their summer break to visit two African nations and conduct free clinics. Through providing medical treatments to hundreds of needy residents in the Gabonese Republic and in Sao Tome and Principe, the medical volunteers all realized their blessings and vowed to cherish what they have.

中國醫藥大學醫學系二十多名醫師、老師和學生，利用暑假來到非洲兩個國家進行義診，透過提供醫療服務，給加彭和聖多美的困苦居民
一輩子都難忘也震撼的經驗，讓醫療團隊都見苦知福。

At the end of today”s program we go to Malaysia, where in celebration of the country”s Independence Day, students attending Penang Tzu Chi kindergarten went on a parade around the neighborhood wearing costumes that represent the country”s three major ethnic groups.
