Welcome to Da Ai Headlines. I”m Dennis Wu. Thank you for joining us. In the Philippines, Tzu Chi helps the country recover from the damage brought by the recent Typhoon Nesat. In Taiwan, both the Dajia River Valley and Lishan are facing the problems of erosion and flood damage. And, we meet three award-winning teachers in Taichung”s Dali High School, who pass on more than just knowledge to their students.

1. 菲尼莎慈濟 Distributions for typhoon victims
Typhoon Nesat has caused severe flooding in the Philippines, and the Tzu Chi Philippines Chapter mobilized volunteers to assess disaster areas and carry out aid distributions. Today, we join them in the Tondo area of Manila and San Mateo of Rizal Province.
尼莎颱風在菲律賓造成淹水災情，慈濟菲律賓分會動員志工前往勘災，以及發放物資，今天我們跟著慈濟志工，來到馬尼拉的敦洛區和黎剎省的聖馬刁鎮。
2. 美學校發放 Backpack food program in California
In the United States, Tzu Chi volunteers in northern California first came up with the idea of a backpack relief program to help feed students from low-income families. Now, their counterparts in the south of the state are also following suit.
在美國，北加州的慈濟志工率先推動幸福校園食物背包計畫，幫助弱勢的學童能夠溫飽，而現在南加州的志工也展開行動。

3. 愛的轉變 Gratitude on Teacher”s Day
At National Hemei Experimental School in Changhua, students paid homage to their teachers on Teachers Day by presenting a video they put together. Among the pupils appearing in the film was a once problem student, who has been transformed by his teacher”s love.
台灣彰化和美實驗學校，在教師節，學生們透過拍攝紀念影片向老師表達感恩，影片當中的一位同學，因老師的陪伴而改變了。
4. 身殘有師愛 Growing through puppetry
Now a third grade student in Taichung, Chen Zhiyu(陳致宇) has had symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder since he was a baby. At first his parents let the boy did as he pleased, but thanks to the help of puppet theater master, Liao Qiquan,( 廖啟泉) now Zhiyu has improved much and is now attending regular classes in school.
台中市東寶國小三年級學生陳致宇，發展遲緩，伴隨過動症狀，一開始，家長隨著小孩的興趣發展，不過因為布袋戲老師廖啟泉的幫助，讓陳致宇成長很多，也能進入普通班就讀。

On Helping One Another
If those who have moved out of harm”s way can reach out a helping hand to those in need it can make a big difference. Although the world is troubled by unending disasters, if everyone just gives a little bit, great things can be accomplished.

5. 大河劫大甲溪(3) Forces of nature in R. Dajia valley
In our continuing series of features on Taiwan”s great Dajia River, we look at the problem of erosion and flood damage in the scenic valley area. Engineers seem to be fighting a losing battle against the river. There is a similar story at the source of the Dajia, in Lishan, where local farmers say their fields and orchards are slowly slipping into the valley.
今天持續的「大河劫大甲溪」紀實報導，來看看這個地區，受到地層侵蝕以及水患問題，工程學家似乎也在與地層鬆滑的現象對抗，大甲溪、梨山就有這樣的情況，居民房子和果園會隨著地層慢慢滑動，受著地滑災害之苦。

The victorious Allied forces of World II put together a military tribunal held in Nuremberg, Germany to prosecute 24 of the most important captured leaders of Nazi Germany, The verdicts of the Nuremberg Trials were released on this day in 1945 after ten months of hearings. It was the first International Military Tribunal.

TC free clinic in Taitung
After seeing numerous families in Taiwan”s backwater Taitung County suffer because they couldn”t afford to get their illnesses treated, Master Cheng Yen called for medical volunteers to hold free clinics beginning in May of 1973. On this day of the same year, the third free clinic was held in Guanshan, which was joined by volunteers from Hualien, Yuli, and Taitung.
2006
TIHAA Seminar
Formed in 2004, the Tzu Chi International Humanitarian Aid Association helped south Asia cope with the 2004 tsunami. On this day in 2006, its members met in Hualien”s Jing Si Abode for the first time to share their insights on international relief work and improve how Tzu Chi carried out its aid mission.
1946年，紐倫堡大審，判決公佈。二次世界大戰之後由得勝的聯軍，在德國紐倫堡組織軍事法庭，審判被捕德國納粹黨的24名核心戰犯，經過十個月的審理，於1946年的這天宣判，是世界歷史上第一個國際法庭。
1973年，台東義診，濟助貧病。證嚴法師在台東關懷窮困居民時，看到生病的民眾，因為沒有錢就醫而延誤病情，因此號召當地善心醫護志工，從五月份起舉辦義診，並於同年的今天，在關山舉辦第三次的義診，由來自花蓮、玉里，以及台東當地的醫護人員和教師擔任志工。
2006年，慈濟人道援助會首次研習營。成立於2004年的慈濟人援會，自從南亞海嘯開始運作賑災行動後，2006年的這天在花蓮靜思精舍集合，分享國際賑災實務經驗，以建制更周延的賑災作業系統。
7. 老師謝謝你(3)大里師鐸獎 Trio of award-winning teachers
In celebration of Teachers” Day this week, we continue our series on great educators in Taiwan, by introducing you to three award-winning teachers at the same high school in Taichung. The trio picked up their respective awards for helping the school save power, teaching the children about moral values, and inspiring the students to learn music.
本周的教師節，持續來關心台灣的教育成就。在台中，同一所學校就有三位獲得失鐸獎，這三位得獎老師，有的強調環保節能，有的著重品德教育，有的則致力推動音樂。
8. 感念師恩(3)許博智 From student to colleague
Next, we go to Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital, where Dr. Xu Bozhi(許博智) was inspired to study the difficult art of oral surgery by his mentor Dr. Xia Yiran(夏毅然), and now his former teacher is both his colleague and boss at the hospital department.
接著帶大家到台北慈院，許博智醫師在就讀口腔外科期間，受到老師夏毅然的教誨，讓他度過學業困難，現在卻和老師成為同科別職場的同仁。
9. 師徒血腫科 Students stand on teachers” shoulders
Another teacher-student pair who are now colleagues are Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital superintendent Dr. Gao Ruihe(高瑞和), and his former pupil Dr. Wu Yifeng(吳懿峰). The two work together at the Department of Hematology and Oncology, which was built-up single-handedly by Dr. Gao.
另外一位老師與學生關係的是同在花蓮慈院服務的高瑞和院長，和學生吳懿峰醫師，兩位都在血液腫瘤科，吳懿峰醫師也在高院長的傳承與指導下，已經開枝展葉。
10. 醫學生非洲義診 Free clinics for the needy
Over 20 students and teachers from Taiwan”s China Medical University took advantage of their summer break to visit two African nations and conduct free clinics. Through providing medical treatments to hundreds of needy residents in the Gabonese Republic and in Sao Tome and Principe, the medical volunteers all realized their blessings and vowed to cherish what they have.
中國醫藥大學醫學系二十多名醫師、老師和學生，利用暑假來到非洲兩個國家進行義診，透過提供醫療服務，給加彭和聖多美的困苦居民
一輩子都難忘也震撼的經驗，讓醫療團隊都見苦知福。

1.泰勘災熱食 Ongoing flood relief in Thailand
But we start today”s show in Thailand, where this year”s monsoon season has inundated a third of the country with flood water. In the Ayutthaya and Nakhonsawan areas, Tzu Chi has been providing a hot meal service to trapped residents, with the support of local communities. In Ayutthaya alone, more than 3,000 lunch boxes are needed each day. Last week, torrential rain also caused landslides in Chiang Mai. Once again, volunteers arrived promptly with aid.
節目一開始，先來到泰國，這裡今年的雨季讓全國三分之一泡在水裡，慈濟人在大城府和那空沙旺府，因為有當地的居民的加入，同步展開熱食供應給被大水困助的災民，光是大城府一天就需要超過三千個便當，上個禮拜大雨在清邁造成山崩，志工緊急勘災，迅速送來應急金。
2.雅加達火災 1,741 homeless after fire
On September 9, near a fish market in Jakarta, Indonesia, an air conditioner caught fire. Fanned by strong winds, the blaze spread quickly to other houses, most of which were made of wood. 121 buildings were burnt down, leaving 225 families, with a total of 1,741 people, without homes. The Tzu Chi Indonesia Chapter prepared supplies to give to the residents, including blankets and clothing, giving those who had lost everything a measure of comfort.
九月九日在印尼雅加達一座魚市場區，由於一戶人家冷氣機冒火，在強風助長下，大火快速蔓延，這區大部分都是木板屋，導致災情嚴重，121戶房子付之一矩，讓225個家庭1741人頓失家園，慈濟印尼分會趕緊準備物資給災民，包括毛毯、衣服、拖鞋等用品，讓一無所有的他們得到絲絲溫暖。
3.基隆火災清理 Fire rips through Keelung family home
Another fire, this time in Taiwan”s Keelung City. The blaze, on the morning of September 23rd, which was caused by faulty wiring, swept through all four floors of an old family home. But apart from an injured foot, there were no casualties. Neighbors helped clear up some of the mess, and the Tzu Chi liaison office in Keelung mobilized over 20 volunteers to help salvage and clean up the family”s possessions.
另一場火災，但是發生在基隆市，九月二十三日早上，一棟四層老舊屋舍，因浴室電線走火發生火警，但是除了男主人腳姆指裂傷，其餘沒有人受傷，左右鄰居協助，只清理了一部分，轉向慈濟基隆聯絡處求助，志工立即動員 20多人分工合作，協助清理打掃。

4.老師謝謝你(2)吳庭妤 Bedside teachers in Kaohsiung
Children are expected to go to school. But what about those who have physical disabilities, or are bedridden? In Kaohsiung, Taiwan, the city is providing private tutors, who go teach needy children, either at their homes, or at hospital. Continuing our series on distinguished teachers, we meet one of these mobile tutors - Ms. Wu Tingyu(吳庭妤).
到了學齡的孩童應該要去上學，但假使因為生病或受傷，這些孩童又該怎麼辦呢？目前在台灣的高雄有推動床邊教學，專門的老師到家中、到醫院為孩子上課，繼續我們優異老師系列的相關報導，我們今天來認識從事這行的吳庭妤老師。
5.感念師恩(二)黃思誠 Passing knowledge forward
Continuing our Teachers” Day series, our next distinguished educator is Dr. Huang Sicheng(黃思誠), from Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital. The accomplished gynecologist says he owes his success to all of his teachers and professors, and will therefore do his best to pass on his knowledge to the next generation.
下一位要認識的傑出老師是台北慈濟醫院的醫師黃思誠，這位優異的婦產科醫師說，因為過去受到多位老師與教授的照顧，成就了今日的他，也因此他也努力提攜後進來回報。
6.校長師鐸獎 Wenhua school principal recognized
Next, we meet the principal of Wenhua文華 Senior High School in Taichung, Taiwan, Mr. Liu Yongshun (劉永順), who received a teaching award from the Ministry of Education 25 years ago. This year, he won the prestigious award again. The popular principal was congratulated by his pupils.
在我們接來的報導，來認識台中市文華高中校長劉永順，二十五年前獲得師鐸獎，如今再次獲得師鐸獎，劉永順取消了學校的寒假課輔，並提供學生多元營隊，深受家長的肯定。

It is not wise to indulge in instant gratification indifferent of what is happening around us. The world”s excessive garbage problem is caused by men”s ignorance. We can help by recycling and reusing, which is true wisdom.
只著重現在的享受而不顧其他，實為不智。今天地球上有這麼多垃圾，都是因為我們無知而製造，應該致力資源回收，讓物歸源頭，可再製新品，這才是真有智慧。
7.大河劫大甲溪(2) Farming fears on Dajia River
The Lishan area of the central mountain range is a patchwork of farm fields, for high-altitude vegetables and fruit trees. But, by clearing the land, the problem of landfalls into the Dajia River below has gotten worse. In the latest in our series of in-depth reports from Taiwan”s Dajia River, we go to the source of the waterway, to find out more.

1913
Diesel vanished at sea
German mechanical engineer Rudolf Diesel, who at the age of 34 invented the thermal efficient diesel engine in 1893, was last seen alive on this day in 1913 on a vessel crossing the North Sea. His design which replaced the steam engine is more fuel-efficient than gasoline engines. With modernization and weight reduction, diesel engines are now commonly found in automobiles.
Death of Willem Einthoven
Dutch doctor and physiologist Willem Einthoven, who invented the first practical electrocardiogram in 1903, died on this day in 1927 at the age of 67. His invention which helps diagnose heart disorders won him a Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1924.

Cloud Gate Dance Theatre
Named after a legendary dance of ancient China, Yun-men or Cloud Gate Dance Theatre founded by Lin Hwai-min (林懷民), debuted in Taichung, Taiwan on this day in 1973. It was the first modern dance troupe in the Chinese world.
1999
The 1st Da Ai Village
After the 9/21 earthquake of 1999, Tzu Chi helped built a prefab community, on this day of the same year, to house displaced quake victims in Nantou County”s Zhongxing New Village. It was the first of its kind in Taiwan. The prefabs were ready to be moved into a month later.
1913年，柴油引擎發明者，狄塞爾逝世，在1893年34歲時發明柴油引擎的德國工程師狄塞爾，於1913年的今天，坐船通過歐洲北海時離奇消失，他的設計取帶了蒸氣引擎，也比汽油引擎有更高的效能，透過現代化與輕量化，越來越多的汽車採用柴油引擎。
1927年發明心電圖，愛因托芬逝世於1903年，發明心電圖與測量裝置的荷蘭醫師與生理學家愛因托芬，在1927年的今天與世長辭，享年67，他的發明能夠偵查心臟的異常，並幫助他得到1924年的諾貝爾醫學獎。
1973年，雲門舞集首次公演，以中國最古老的舞蹈雲門為名，由林懷民所創立的雲門舞集，1973年的這天在台灣台中首演，是華人世界第一個當代舞團。
1999年，首批大愛屋動工，安頓身心迎新生，在台灣九二一地震之後於同年的今天，慈濟在南投中興新村興建第一批簡易屋，提供給災民居住，一個月後完工入住。
9.雷迪布蘭大米 Winter relief in Ladybrand
Ladybrand is a South African city on the border with Lesotho. Because it is close to the Lesothan capital, of Maseru, many Taiwanese businessmen, who have factories in Lesotho, live in Ladybrand, including some Tzu Chi volunteers. These volunteers carry out missions in both countries. In our next story, we take you to Ladybrand, where volunteers recently concluded a winter aid program, that helped 254 families.
南非的雷迪布蘭鄰近賴索托，也因此許多在賴索托有投資的台灣商人都居住在此，包括很多慈濟人，也因此這些志工在兩國之間服務人群，接下來要帶您來到雷迪布蘭，志工最近在這裡完成冬令發放，幫助了254個家庭。

1.德州林火發放 Helping fire victims in Texas
First up today, as the effects of global warming continue to be felt all around the globe, early this month, days of heat and strong winds caused a severe fire in the US state of Texas. The blaze destroyed 76 houses and severely damaged another 23 in three counties. After some assessments, Tzu Chi volunteers decided to hand out individual awards of 400-600 USD in emergency cash to help a total of 50 families.
節目一開始，地球暖化持續，在全世界各個角落都可以感受到，這個月初在美國德州高溫天氣加上強風造成大火，這裡三個郡有76間房屋全毀，23間嚴重受損，在勘災後，慈濟志工發放四百到六百元現值卡給50戶家庭。
2.南港獨居修屋 Helping senior woman renovate
Tzu Chi volunteers in Taipei, Taiwan, helped a senior resident living alone last weekend. The elderly woman”s house had a broken roof and ceiling which leaked every time it rained. Volunteers fixed the roof, replaced the broken beams with steel frames and even gave the interior a make-over. At the end of the two-day renovation, the elderly woman said she was happy and grateful for Tzu Chi”s help.
台灣台北的慈濟志工，上周末把握機會探訪獨居的老人家，這位阿嬤家裡屋頂壞掉，每次下雨都會淹水，志工們前來修繕屋頂，將壞掉的樑柱改為鋼樑，也將室內重新整理過，在兩天的整修下來，阿嬤很開心，也很感恩慈濟的幫忙。

3.老師謝謝你(一)許春蘭 Due respect for teachers
Practicing good teachings is appropriate today, because September 28th is Confucius”s birthday - the day when Taiwanese people celebrate Teachers” Day. It”s a time for students to show their respect to their instructors. Coming up, we have a special series of reports, to honor several special teachers, who go above and beyond the call of duty, to make a difference to the lives of their pupils. We start, with the story of Xu Chunlan( 許春蘭), who comes from a poor indigenous family, in southern Taiwan. Not wanting to see young children miss out on an education because of poverty, she quit her teaching job three years ago, to set up an NGO, to care for needs of indigenous families.
今天是9月28號，台灣的教師節，是慶祝孔子的誕辰，也向所有老師表達敬意，我們將為您介紹一群很特別的老師，他們犧牲奉獻，只為了他們的學生，一開始先介紹許春蘭，她出身南台灣貧寒家庭，因為不希望原住民孩子，因家庭經濟因素，失去了求學機會，所以3年前她辭去了教職工作，創辦恆春原住民全人關懷促進協會，幫助貧困原住民家庭。
4.感念師恩(1)游憲章 Honoring a distinguished surgeon
Next we meet Professor Xu Shujian(許書劍), who was not only once the leading surgeon in Taiwan, but also taught many renowned doctors, at National Taiwan University. One of his students, Dr. You Xianzhang(游憲章), the deputy superintendent of Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital, can”t say enough good things about his former professor.
接下來為您介紹許書劍教授，他是台灣外科泰斗，也在台大孕育出許多知名的醫師，他其中的一位學生，台北慈濟醫院副院長游憲章，提到老師，有說不完的感恩與尊重。
5.馬花道交流 Seeing a universe in a flower

We caught up with him at the Community Education Center in Malacca, where he teaches Zen and the art of flower arrangement.

A Chinese thinker and social philosopher of the Spring and Autumn Period, Confucius was born on this day in 551 BC. Master Kong began teaching peasants at the age of 30, and his philosophy became known as Confucianism, which has deeply influenced China and Chinese communities in the world. In 1952, the President of the Republic of China declared this day to be all around Teachers Day in Taiwan, to honor Master Kong and all teachers.

Death of Ferdinand Marcos
Filipino dictator, Ferdinand Marcos ruled for two decades. After the controversial presidential election in 1986 led to a revolution, Marcos was removed from power and exiled to Hawaii of the United States. He would later die on this day in 1989.

TIMA clinic in Lamay
Over 100 volunteers from Kaohsiung, Taiwan arrived on the offshore island of Xiaoliuqiu(小琉球) or Lamay to hold its first ever Tzu Chi free clinic. Volunteers also shared with islanders how joining the Buddhist NGO had changed their lives. Medical volunteers visited families on the island to help raise health awareness. The free clinic remains a regular event today.

In 1993, over 100 Tzu Chi members in Indonesia starting supporting local shelters and orphanages, winning recognition from the government and people. On this day in 1997, thanks to the sponsorship of local entrepreneur Huang Yicong黃弈聰, Tzu Chi”s new grounds in Jakarta became a liaison office.

Regaining lost memory
An old homeless person, Ms. Wu, who had wandered the streets of Taiwan”s Pingtung County was taken under Tzu Chi”s wing. The senior who had lost her memory returned home today 2003 with the help of volunteers. Beginning in 2005, Grandma Wu started visiting the local Tzu Chi recycling station to volunteer and donated 3 USD a month to help pay the love forward.

TC Qishan Liaison Office
In order to help expedite Tzu Chi”s post-Morakot relief effort, Qishan Township in southern Taiwan gave its Farmers Recreation and Activity Center to the Buddhist NGO to establish an office. The official agreement was signed on this day in 2010, and volunteers quickly renovated the center to help serve Tzu Chi”s missions.
西元前551年，孔子誕生，至聖先師，中國的思想家與哲學家孔子於西元前551年出生於春秋時代，孔子三十歲時開始講學，首開平民教育風氣，是儒家學派創始人，直到現在仍然影響中國與華人，民國四十一年，由中華民國總統明令這天為教師節，提倡尊師重道。
1989年，菲律賓總統馬可仕病逝，菲律賓的獨裁者馬可仕統治國家20年，因為1986年不公正的總統大選，引爆人民革命運動，他被迫下台而遠走美國夏威夷，這天心臟病發，病逝於檀香山。
1996年，慈濟人醫首次小琉球義診，高雄地區一百多位志工，這天前往屏東小琉球，舉辦第一場慈濟義診，活動中志工也與當地居民分享他們加入志工的人生轉變，醫護志工也會挨家挨戶宣導提高衛生教育，義診關懷持續至今。
1997年，慈濟深耕，印尼分會成立，從1993年開始，一百多位慈濟會員開始在當地關懷收容所和孤兒院，受到當地政府和民眾認同，這天在雅加達啟用新會所，由當地企業家黃弈聰所捐贈，成立慈濟印尼連絡處。
2003年，失落的名字找回真實人生，長年流浪屏東街頭的吳老太太，記憶力嚴重退化，經過當地慈濟志工的關懷與陪伴，協助她找回身份，安排住所，2003的這天，志工帶著她回家探親，2005年吳老太太也到慈濟環保站回收分類，還每月捐出一百元做好事。
2010年，農民中心簽約，成立旗山聯絡處，原本是地方上的農民休閒活動中心，由於莫拉克風災，慈濟在當地援助的需求，而由地方政府提供給慈濟基金會做為據點，2010的這天雙方正式簽約，並且經由慈濟志工的整理與改裝，帶動當地人文。

1.德州林火發放 Helping fire victims in Texas
First up today, as the effects of global warming continue to be felt all around the globe, early this month, days of heat and strong winds caused a severe fire in the US state of Texas. The blaze destroyed 76 houses and severely damaged another 23 in three counties. After some assessments, Tzu Chi volunteers decided to hand out individual awards of 400-600 USD in emergency cash to help a total of 50 families.
節目一開始，地球暖化持續，在全世界各個角落都可以感受到，這個月初在美國德州高溫天氣加上強風造成大火，這裡三個郡有76間房屋全毀，23間嚴重受損，在勘災後，慈濟志工發放四百到六百元現值卡給50戶家庭。
2.南港獨居修屋 Helping senior woman renovate
Tzu Chi volunteers in Taipei, Taiwan, helped a senior resident living alone last weekend. The elderly woman”s house had a broken roof and ceiling which leaked every time it rained. Volunteers fixed the roof, replaced the broken beams with steel frames and even gave the interior a make-over. At the end of the two-day renovation, the elderly woman said she was happy and grateful for Tzu Chi”s help.
台灣台北的慈濟志工，上周末把握機會探訪獨居的老人家，這位阿嬤家裡屋頂壞掉，每次下雨都會淹水，志工們前來修繕屋頂，將壞掉的樑柱改為鋼樑，也將室內重新整理過，在兩天的整修下來，阿嬤很開心，也很感恩慈濟的幫忙。

Practicing good teachings is appropriate today, because September 28th is Confucius”s birthday - the day when Taiwanese people celebrate Teachers” Day. It”s a time for students to show their respect to their instructors. Coming up, we have a special series of reports, to honor several special teachers, who go above and beyond the call of duty, to make a difference to the lives of their pupils. We start, with the story of Xu Chunlan( 許春蘭), who comes from a poor indigenous family, in southern Taiwan. Not wanting to see young children miss out on an education because of poverty, she quit her teaching job three years ago, to set up an NGO, to care for needs of indigenous families.
今天是9月28號，台灣的教師節，是慶祝孔子的誕辰，也向所有老師表達敬意，我們將為您介紹一群很特別的老師，他們犧牲奉獻，只為了他們的學生，一開始先介紹許春蘭，她出身南台灣貧寒家庭，因為不希望原住民孩子，因家庭經濟因素，失去了求學機會，所以3年前她辭去了教職工作，創辦恆春原住民全人關懷促進協會，幫助貧困原住民家庭。

Next we meet Professor Xu Shujian(許書劍), who was not only once the leading surgeon in Taiwan, but also taught many renowned doctors, at National Taiwan University. One of his students, Dr. You Xianzhang(游憲章), the deputy superintendent of Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital, can”t say enough good things about his former professor.
接下來為您介紹許書劍教授，他是台灣外科泰斗，也在台大孕育出許多知名的醫師，他其中的一位學生，台北慈濟醫院副院長游憲章，提到老師，有說不完的感恩與尊重。

1.泰水患煮熱食Providing flood relief
First up, a region along the Mekong River in Thailand has been flooded for two months. During September, government authorities, the military and Tzu Chi volunteers worked together to survey damage and provide hot meals using navy lifeboats to residents in flooded areas of Ayuttaya.
節目一開始，泰國水患已經兩個多月，湄公河岸大水仍未退，九月時，政府當局軍方以及慈濟志工一起勘災，烹煮熱食，出動海軍救生艇，發放給水災災民。
2.日發放菊地 More local volunteers join
Tzu Chi”s continuous care for disaster victims can also be seen in Japan, for quake and tsunami survivors. On September 23 to 25, Tzu Chi held its sixth aid distribution in Miyako City, in Iwate Prefecture. We meet a local couple who were so inspired by the Taiwanese NGO”s work, they became part of the aid relief team.
慈濟人在災區的持續關懷，在日本也能夠看到，九月23到25號，第六度在災區的發放，地點是在岩手縣的宮古市，一對當地的夫妻，深受慈濟的付出感動，也加入了賑災的行列。

3.菲白米牛奶 Charity relief across Luzon
Moving to the Philippines, besides distributing rice donated by Taiwan”s Council of Agriculture, Tzu Chi volunteers there recently received a donation of over 10,000 liters of milk in one-liter cartons. The caregivers quickly delivered the milk to young students in three primary schools in the town of San Mateo in Rizal Province.
鏡頭轉到菲律賓，除了持續發放來自台灣農委會捐贈的愛心白米，菲律賓分會最近又收到了善心人士捐贈一萬多公升的牛奶，志工趕緊將這些牛奶送給聖馬刁鎮的三所小學的學生。
4.愛在菲揚卡利多 Life transformed by Ketsana & Tzu Chi
Staying in the Philippines, 56-year-old Carlito Grefal from Marikina City was an alcoholic for 40 years. His unhealthy lifestyle even drove his daughter away. However, his life began changing after Typhoon Ketsana hit the Philippines, as he started working with Tzu Chi volunteers who came to his community to provide disaster relief. Now, the reformed man has reunited with his daughter after she saw the changes in him.
菲律賓馬利僅那，一位喝酒長達40年的市民卡利多，每天過著醉生夢死的生活，連女兒都受不了他，憤而離家出走，凱莎那風災的因緣，讓他與慈濟結緣，徹底改變了他的人生，現在，完全戒酒的他，女兒看到改變，回家團聚。
《 衲履足跡 》On Filial Piety 談孝道
By feeding our parents and serving them tea, we are reminded of how they raised us when we were young, which will nurture our desire to reciprocate. Everyone who participates in Tzu Chi”s humanistic activities, will learn to be filial and act properly.
為父母餵食、奉茶等舉動，可讓孩子回想自幼即是受到父母如此的照顧，懂得回報親恩。慈濟人的人文行動，但願人人能接觸得到，重新建立孝道、實行道德禮儀。
5.愛的環保站 Taichung”s new recycling station
TIMA member and Taichung Tzu Chi volunteer, Dr. Ji Bangjie(紀邦杰) donated a vacant lot to Tzu Chi. After ten months of building and renovation, last Saturday, the new environmental station-cum-retreat celebrated its grand opening.
台中市慈濟志工，紀邦杰醫師去年將一塊空地捐給慈濟，經過十個月整修，上星期六，這個新的環保站共修處正式啟用了。
6.蘇州環保參訪 Visitors at Neihu recycling station
A group of delegates and entrepreneurs from Suzhou, China came to Taiwan and took the opportunity to visit Tzu Chi”s Neihu recycling station in Taipei last Sunday. The visitors were all very moved and inspired by the hardworking environmental volunteers.
蘇州代表團與一群企業家，最近來台灣參訪，並在上周日把握機會到慈濟內湖環保站，看到這麼多志工一起努力守護地球，大家都深受感動與啟發。
7.糖(部)文化園區 Tangbu Cultural Area opens
Still in Taipei, an old warehouse area in the Wanhua district has been converted into the Tangbu Cultural Area. On Sunday, Taiwan”s president Ma Yingjiu and the mayor of Taipei city, Hao Longbin opened the complex. The famous Ming Hwa Yuan opera group, that was moving into the area, gave visitors a sneak preview of the show it will be performing for disaster victims in Japan, starting Wednesday.

On this day in 1981, at a vegetarian restaurant in Taipei, a construction planning committee for Tzu Chi General Hospital was formed. Members included Master Xiu Guan修觀, the deputy superintendent of NTU Hospital Dr. Du Shimian(杜詩綿), Dr. Zeng Wenbin(曾文賓), Master Cheng Yen and other people. The committee would meet over 200 times, before completing their mission to build the hospital.

Ben Johnson

Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson won the 100m sprint at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, Korea, in a time of 9.79 seconds. But on this day he tested positive for drugs, and was stripped of his medal. Filipino Tzu Chi volunteers, Chongren(崇仁) Hospital superintendent Lv Xiuquan(呂秀泉) and other people, met with Master Cheng Yen at the Hualien Abode on this day in 1996 to celebrate Mid Autumn Festival. Since then, the annual TIMA conference has been held around the Moon Day holiday every year.

Marikina City - a suburb of the huge Filipino capital of Manila - suffered a major flood in 2009, brought down by Typhoon Ketsana. The area was then hit by a fire. After the flood water receded, local volunteers prepared hot food, bread, clothing and other essentials for stricken residents. Tzu Chi would later launch a clean-up program, which would inspire local people to volunteer.
1981年慈院籌建委員會親力親為蓋醫院，1981年這天在台北百味香素食餐廳成立慈濟醫院籌建委員會，包括修觀法師、台大醫院副院長杜詩綿、曾文賓以及證嚴法師等人，陸續召開兩百多次會議，對醫院成立不遺餘力。
1988年，班強生禁藥，取消奧運金牌，加拿大黑豹班強生，1988年這一天在漢城奧運百公尺決賽中以九秒七九奪冠，但這天卻被大會驗出使用禁藥，取消冠軍，直到1993年復出比賽時，再被驗出使用禁藥，被判終生禁止比賽。
1996年，菲國人醫訪花蓮，每到中秋人醫會，菲律賓慈濟志工和崇仁醫院院長呂秀泉等人，1996年這天在花蓮靜思精舍與證嚴法師歡度中秋，從此形成慈濟人醫會每年在中秋節期間，舉辦全球年會的慣例。
2009年，凱莎娜風災，菲律賓志工關懷首都馬尼拉近郊的馬利僅那市，在凱莎娜颱風來襲時大淹水，又因為意外引發火災，在積水退去之後，當地慈濟志工準備熱食、麵包衣物等生活用品送給受災民眾，隨後啟動災後清理計劃，啟發當地愛心。
9.身障泳士 Disabled swimmers win confidence
At Taiwan”s National Disabled Swimming Championships, held on the weekend in Taichung, over 100 disabled swimmers took part. Although they all suffer different forms of disability, they all have something in common: they were able to overcome their handicap by swimming.
用游泳也可游出自信，全國身障者游泳錦標賽，周末在台中舉行，吸引了全台一百多位身障者報名參加，雖然參賽者殘缺程度不同，不過相同的是，他們用樂觀克服了缺陷，游出一片天。
10.黃思賢訪校 Visiting Barack Obama Academy
Recently, Tzu Chi”s Global Affairs director, Huang Sixian and volunteers visited the Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy in Dallas of the United States. Volunteers discussed with the principal the possibility of becoming sister schools with Tzu Chi and also about providing scholarships to needy students.
慈濟全球志工總督導黃思賢與志工來到美國德州達拉斯，拜訪了歐巴馬學校，這是全美第一所以總統歐巴馬命名的學校，這趟拜訪討論與台灣慈濟中學結為姊妹校等事誼，以及提供助學金給清貧學子。

1.泰水患煮熱食Providing flood relief
First up, a region along the Mekong River in Thailand has been flooded for two months. During September, government authorities, the military and Tzu Chi volunteers worked together to survey damage and provide hot meals using navy lifeboats to residents in flooded areas of Ayuttaya.
節目一開始，泰國水患已經兩個多月，湄公河岸大水仍未退，九月時，政府當局軍方以及慈濟志工一起勘災，烹煮熱食，出動海軍救生艇，發放給水災災民。
2.日發放菊地 More local volunteers join
Tzu Chi”s continuous care for disaster victims can also be seen in Japan, for quake and tsunami survivors. On September 23 to 25, Tzu Chi held its sixth aid distribution in Miyako City, in Iwate Prefecture. We meet a local couple who were so inspired by the Taiwanese NGO”s work, they became part of the aid relief team.
慈濟人在災區的持續關懷，在日本也能夠看到，九月23到25號，第六度在災區的發放，地點是在岩手縣的宮古市，一對當地的夫妻，深受慈濟的付出感動，也加入了賑災的行列。

3.菲白米牛奶 Charity relief across Luzon
Moving to the Philippines, besides distributing rice donated by Taiwan”s Council of Agriculture, Tzu Chi volunteers there recently received a donation of over 10,000 liters of milk in one-liter cartons. The caregivers quickly delivered the milk to young students in three primary schools in the town of San Mateo in Rizal Province.
鏡頭轉到菲律賓，除了持續發放來自台灣農委會捐贈的愛心白米，菲律賓分會最近又收到了善心人士捐贈一萬多公升的牛奶，志工趕緊將這些牛奶送給聖馬刁鎮的三所小學的學生。
4.愛在菲揚卡利多 Life transformed by Ketsana & Tzu Chi
Staying in the Philippines, 56-year-old Carlito Grefal from Marikina City was an alcoholic for 40 years. His unhealthy lifestyle even drove his daughter away. However, his life began changing after Typhoon Ketsana hit the Philippines, as he started working with Tzu Chi volunteers who came to his community to provide disaster relief. Now, the reformed man has reunited with his daughter after she saw the changes in him.
菲律賓馬利僅那，一位喝酒長達40年的市民卡利多，每天過著醉生夢死的生活，連女兒都受不了他，憤而離家出走，凱莎那風災的因緣，讓他與慈濟結緣，徹底改變了他的人生，現在，完全戒酒的他，女兒看到改變，回家團聚。

By feeding our parents and serving them tea, we are reminded of how they raised us when we were young, which will nurture our desire to reciprocate. Everyone who participates in Tzu Chi”s humanistic activities, will learn to be filial and act properly.
為父母餵食、奉茶等舉動，可讓孩子回想自幼即是受到父母如此的照顧，懂得回報親恩。慈濟人的人文行動，但願人人能接觸得到，重新建立孝道、實行道德禮儀。
5.愛的環保站 Taichung”s new recycling station
TIMA member and Taichung Tzu Chi volunteer, Dr. Ji Bangjie(紀邦杰) donated a vacant lot to Tzu Chi. After ten months of building and renovation, last Saturday, the new environmental station-cum-retreat celebrated its grand opening.
台中市慈濟志工，紀邦杰醫師去年將一塊空地捐給慈濟，經過十個月整修，上星期六，這個新的環保站共修處正式啟用了。
6.蘇州環保參訪 Visitors at Neihu recycling station
A group of delegates and entrepreneurs from Suzhou, China came to Taiwan and took the opportunity to visit Tzu Chi”s Neihu recycling station in Taipei last Sunday. The visitors were all very moved and inspired by the hardworking environmental volunteers.
蘇州代表團與一群企業家，最近來台灣參訪，並在上周日把握機會到慈濟內湖環保站，看到這麼多志工一起努力守護地球，大家都深受感動與啟發。
7.糖(部)文化園區 Tangbu Cultural Area opens
Still in Taipei, an old warehouse area in the Wanhua district has been converted into the Tangbu Cultural Area. On Sunday, Taiwan”s president Ma Yingjiu and the mayor of Taipei city, Hao Longbin opened the complex. The famous Ming Hwa Yuan opera group, that was moving into the area, gave visitors a sneak preview of the show it will be performing for disaster victims in Japan, starting Wednesday.

On this day in 1981, at a vegetarian restaurant in Taipei, a construction planning committee for Tzu Chi General Hospital was formed. Members included Master Xiu Guan修觀, the deputy superintendent of NTU Hospital Dr. Du Shimian(杜詩綿), Dr. Zeng Wenbin(曾文賓), Master Cheng Yen and other people. The committee would meet over 200 times, before completing their mission to build the hospital.

Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson won the 100m sprint at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, Korea, in a time of 9.79 seconds. But on this day he tested positive for drugs, and was stripped of his medal. After later returning to competition, he was found guilty of doping again in 1993, and banned for life.

1.菲黎剎省簽約 Rizal Province supports conservation
First up today, Tzu Chi”s environmental mission in the Philippines reached another important milestone recently, when Rizal Provincial Government signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Tzu Chi, giving volunteers access to public offices and schools to promote conservation.
節目一開始，菲律賓慈濟人推動環保又向前邁進了一大步，和黎剎省政府簽下環保協定，讓志工能在公家機關與學校推廣環保。
2.菲災民環保 600kg of recyclables for Tzu Chi
Staying in the Philippines, besides holding regular free clinics and caring for the disadvantaged, one of the main missions for Tzu Chi volunteers there is fire disaster relief. Four years ago, residents of Barangay Tagumpay, who received Tzu Chi”s help after a blaze, decided to reciprocate by sharing 600 kilograms of recyclables.
繼續留在菲律賓，除了定期舉辦義診照顧有需要的人，另一個常見的活動就火災發放，四年前，成功里的居民因為火災接受過慈濟的幫忙，也因此捐出600公斤多的回收物來回饋。
3.中國敬老併 Caring for the elderly
Next we shift our focus to China, where Tzu Chi volunteers regularly visit nursing homes to show some love to lonely seniors. Before we check on a recent trip to a nursing home in Dongguan of Guangdong Province, we first go to Jiangsu Province”s Kunshan, where a hair salon owner took his entire staff and family to a local old-people”s home, to give the seniors free haircuts.

4.空手逆轉勝(四) Karate champs go back to Guoxing
The Guoxing Karate Team, in Taiwan”s Nantou County, was founded after the 9/21 earthquake. Twelve years after the tremor that devastated Guoxing Township, two of the students from the first ever class are back at the Karate Club, to train a new generation of champions. Deng Shiyu(鄧世瑀) and Zeng Huixian(曾慧仙) are both from single-parent families. After winning a hatful of gold medals each, they decided to spend the rest of their lives together, helping other vulnerable children in the hometown.
南投國姓空手道隊，九二一地震因緣成立到現在十二個寒暑，成績輝煌，空手道隊的一屆學生，鄧世瑀與曾慧仙返校教導新一代隊員，他們兩位都來自單親家庭，兩位贏得獎牌，成為國手後，決定返鄉教導更多弱勢家庭孩子。

Though serving willingly requ ires devotion of one”s time, attention, and labor, one always feels happy, which is reaping happiness. To feel blessed and content, is true state of ”willing to do, happy to bear”.
「甘願做」雖然經常需要付出時間、心力與體力，總是很「幸福」，隨之而來的就是「歡喜受」，其實，「幸福」、「美滿」，是「甘願做，歡喜受」的真實心靈體會。
5.中慈代步車 Golf drive at Taichung TC Hospital
If you need to get from the old building to the new zone at Taichung Tzu Chi Hospital, you can now catch a free golf-cart shuttle. The buggies are specially remodeled, with wider seats, and more hand rails and safety bars, to keep patients of all ages secure and comfortable. Moreover, the electric vehicles are very eco-friendly. The two new buggies were donated to the hospital by a pair of Tzu Chi volunteers.
如果你想要在台中慈院從舊大樓到新院區，現在可以搭乘高爾夫球車前往了，改良過的高爾夫球車，提供加高扶手、增寬座位，保障病患乘坐的安全性和舒適性，另外高爾夫球車十分環保，兩台高爾夫球車，都是慈濟志工愛心捐贈的。
6.護理姊妹情 New nurses enter the workplace
From the Tzu Chi Hospital in Taichung, to the one in Taipei, new nursing staff are currently going through orientation, to get them ready for the real work situation. The senior staff not only give detailed guidance, but also roll up their sleeves for the trainee nurses to practice drawing blood samples.
鏡頭從台中慈濟醫院轉到臺北慈濟醫院，為了讓新進的護理人員，能夠進入狀況可以上手，資深的白衣大士不但細心指導，甚至還挽袖讓學妹在自己手上練習抽血。

1964 Assassination report presented
The Warren Commission established on November 29, 1963, to investigate the assassination of US President John Kennedy, presented an 888-page report to succeeding President Johnson on this day in 1964. The report which was made public three days later, concluded that Lee Oswald had acted alone in the assassination.
1992 Tzu Chi Canada Chapter
The government gave approval to the Tzu Chi Foundation to establish a branch office in Canada, on this day in 1992. To celebrate, volunteers held a large-scale tea party at a high school in Vancouver, inviting volunteers from the US to share their experiences.
1994 1st overseas marrow donation
With the Malacca branch in Malaysia as a communicating channel, Tzu Chi”s bone marrow bank in Taiwan successfully found a match for a needy patient. The donor donated bone marrow on this day in 1994, in Taipei and the marrow was immediately taken to Singapore”s Central Hospital where a Malaysian patient received transplant surgery.
2010 Lesotho residents reciprocate
Tzu Chi volunteers began handing out corn seeds to local residents in the winter aid distributions in Lesotho, in the year of 2000, helping them to farm for a living. To reciprocate Tzu Chi”s love, after a fruitful harvest, residents donated corn flour to help those in greater need on this day in 2010.
2010 Philippines recycling station
After Typhoon Ketsana devastated the Philippines in September 2009, Tzu Chi volunteers helped disaster victims rebuild their homes. Moved by the organization”s effort, Philippines Airline chairman Chen Yongzai donated a piece of land to Tzu Chi to set up an educational recycling station, which opened on this day in 2010. The station encouraged residents to recycle to safeguard our planet.
歷史的今天 九月二十六號，1964年，華倫委員會甘迺迪遇刺報告，華倫委員會於1963年11月29日成立，為調查美國總統甘迺迪遇刺，彙整出888頁長的調查報告，在1964年這一天，交給繼任者詹森總統，報告於三天後公開，並宣布槍手奧斯華純屬個人行為。

2010年，台灣玉米種子，賴索托感恩回饋，慈濟志工從兩千年開始，在冬令發放時，送給當地居民玉米種子，協助他們栽種謀生，為了回饋慈濟的愛，收成之後，在2010年的這一天，居民們捐出玉米粉，幫助比自己更困苦的人。
2010年風災過後，啟動環保教育，在2009年凱莎娜颱風重創菲律賓後，慈濟志工協助災民清理家園，受慈濟的精神而感動，菲律賓航空董事長陳永栽，捐出土地成立環保教育站，在2010年這一天啟用，帶動當地居民做環保，守護地球。
8.0926(慈濟)加拿大慈濟 Tzu Chi chapter opened Sep 26, 1992
As we just saw in our history section, the Canadian Tzu Chi Chapter was officially established on this day in 1992. Since then, Tzu Chi”s charity, medicine, education and recycling missions have blossomed in the country, reaching people in all needy corners. It all began with a Taiwanese couple, He Guoqing(何國慶)and his wife, who held gatherings one after another, to recruit volunteers and members. Today, Canada has seven Tzu Chi Chapters, and 75 volunteer stations, with nearly 30,000 members.
在剛才歷史今天的報導裡，我們看到加拿大分會於1992年的今天成立，從此慈濟的慈善、醫療、教育及環保志業在當地蓬勃發展，幫助許多於社會黑暗角落的人，而這都要從一對台灣夫妻說起，何國慶與妻子舉辦許多茶會，接引志工與會員，如今，加拿大有七所分會，並陸續成立了75個志工站以及近三萬名慈濟會員。

1.菲黎剎省簽約 Rizal Province supports conservation
First up today, Tzu Chi”s environmental mission in the Philippines reached another important milestone recently, when Rizal Provincial Government signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Tzu Chi, giving volunteers access to public offices and schools to promote conservation.
節目一開始，菲律賓慈濟人推動環保又向前邁進了一大步，和黎剎省政府簽下環保協定，讓志工能在公家機關與學校推廣環保。
2.菲災民環保 600kg of recyclables for Tzu Chi
Staying in the Philippines, besides holding regular free clinics and caring for the disadvantaged, one of the main missions for Tzu Chi volunteers there is fire disaster relief. Four years ago, residents of Barangay Tagumpay, who received Tzu Chi”s help after a blaze, decided to reciprocate by sharing 600 kilograms of recyclables.
繼續留在菲律賓，除了定期舉辦義診照顧有需要的人，另一個常見的活動就火災發放，四年前，成功里的居民因為火災接受過慈濟的幫忙，也因此捐出600公斤多的回收物來回饋。
3.中國敬老併 Caring for the elderly
Next we shift our focus to China, where Tzu Chi volunteers regularly visit nursing homes to show some love to lonely seniors. Before we check on a recent trip to a nursing home in Dongguan of Guangdong Province, we first go to Jiangsu Province”s Kunshan, where a hair salon owner took his entire staff and family to a local old-people”s home, to give the seniors free haircuts.
接下來鏡頭轉到中國大陸，慈濟志工經常訪視敬老院，關心經常感到寂寞的老人家，帶您到廣東東莞之前，先將鏡頭帶到江蘇昆山，這一回就有髮廊業者帶著全體員工還有自己的家人一起來付出，給老人義剪。

4.空手逆轉勝(四) Karate champs go back to Guoxing
The Guoxing Karate Team, in Taiwan”s Nantou County, was founded after the 9/21 earthquake. Twelve years after the tremor that devastated Guoxing Township, two of the students from the first ever class are back at the Karate Club, to train a new generation of champions. Deng Shiyu(鄧世瑀) and Zeng Huixian(曾慧仙) are both from single-parent families. After winning a hatful of gold medals each, they decided to spend the rest of their lives together, helping other vulnerable children in the hometown.
南投國姓空手道隊，九二一地震因緣成立到現在十二個寒暑，成績輝煌，空手道隊的一屆學生，鄧世瑀與曾慧仙返校教導新一代隊員，他們兩位都來自單親家庭，兩位贏得獎牌，成為國手後，決定返鄉教導更多弱勢家庭孩子。

Though serving willingly requ ires devotion of one”s time, attention, and labor, one always feels happy, which is reaping happiness. To feel blessed and content, is true state of ”willing to do, happy to bear”.
「甘願做」雖然經常需要付出時間、心力與體力，總是很「幸福」，隨之而來的就是「歡喜受」，其實，「幸福」、「美滿」，是「甘願做，歡喜受」的真實心靈體會。
5.中慈代步車 Golf drive at Taichung TC Hospital
If you need to get from the old building to the new zone at Taichung Tzu Chi Hospital, you can now catch a free golf-cart shuttle. The buggies are specially remodeled, with wider seats, and more hand rails and safety bars, to keep patients of all ages secure and comfortable. Moreover, the electric vehicles are very eco-friendly. The two new buggies were donated to the hospital by a pair of Tzu Chi volunteers.

6.護理姊妹情 New nurses enter the workplace
From the Tzu Chi Hospital in Taichung, to the one in Taipei, new nursing staff are currently going through orientation, to get them ready for the real work situation. The senior staff not only give detailed guidance, but also roll up their sleeves for the trainee nurses to practice drawing blood samples.
鏡頭從台中慈濟醫院轉到臺北慈濟醫院，為了讓新進的護理人員，能夠進入狀況可以上手，資深的白衣大士不但細心指導，甚至還挽袖讓學妹在自己手上練習抽血。
7.0926歷史的今天 On this day, the 26th of September.
1964 Assassination report presented
The Warren Commission established on November 29, 1963, to investigate the assassination of US President John Kennedy, presented an 888-page report to succeeding President Johnson on this day in 1964. The report which was made public three days later, concluded that Lee Oswald had acted alone in the assassination.
1992 Tzu Chi Canada Chapter
The government gave approval to the Tzu Chi Foundation to establish a branch office in Canada, on this day in 1992. To celebrate, volunteers held a large-scale tea party at a high school in Vancouver, inviting volunteers from the US to share their experiences.
1994 1st overseas marrow donation
With the Malacca branch in Malaysia as a communicating channel, Tzu Chi”s bone marrow bank in Taiwan successfully found a match for a needy patient. The donor donated bone marrow on this day in 1994, in Taipei and the marrow was immediately taken to Singapore”s Central Hospital where a Malaysian patient received transplant surgery.
2010 Lesotho residents reciprocate
Tzu Chi volunteers began handing out corn seeds to local residents in the winter aid distributions in Lesotho, in the year of 2000, helping them to farm for a living. To reciprocate Tzu Chi”s love, after a fruitful harvest, residents donated corn flour to help those in greater need on this day in 2010.
2010 Philippines recycling station
After Typhoon Ketsana devastated the Philippines in September 2009, Tzu Chi volunteers helped disaster victims rebuild their homes. Moved by the organization”s effort, Philippines Airline chairman Chen Yongzai donated a piece of land to Tzu Chi to set up an educational recycling station, which opened on this day in 2010. The station encouraged residents to recycle to safeguard our planet.
歷史的今天 九月二十六號，1964年，華倫委員會甘迺迪遇刺報告，華倫委員會於1963年11月29日成立，為調查美國總統甘迺迪遇刺，彙整出888頁長的調查報告，在1964年這一天，交給繼任者詹森總統，報告於三天後公開，並宣布槍手奧斯華純屬個人行為。
1992年，慈濟加拿大分會獲准成立，加拿大政府在1992年這天，核准慈濟基金會加拿大分會成立，為此，慈濟志工在溫哥華一所中學舉辦大型茶會，並邀請美國慈濟志工分享經驗。
1994年，首例跨國捐髓，台灣愛心輸出，透過慈濟馬六甲聯絡處的聯繫，台灣慈濟骨髓資料庫成功配對，在1994年這天在台北完成抽髓，當天送往新加坡中央醫院，植入一位馬來西亞少女身上。
2010年，台灣玉米種子，賴索托感恩回饋，慈濟志工從兩千年開始，在冬令發放時，送給當地居民玉米種子，協助他們栽種謀生，為了回饋慈濟的愛，收成之後，在2010年的這一天，居民們捐出玉米粉，幫助比自己更困苦的人。
2010年風災過後，啟動環保教育，在2009年凱莎娜颱風重創菲律賓後，慈濟志工協助災民清理家園，受慈濟的精神而感動，菲律賓航空董事長陳永栽，捐出土地成立環保教育站，在2010年這一天啟用，帶動當地居民做環保，守護地球。
8.0926(慈濟)加拿大慈濟 Tzu Chi chapter opened Sep 26, 1992
As we just saw in our history section, the Canadian Tzu Chi Chapter was officially established on this day in 1992. Since then, Tzu Chi”s charity, medicine, education and recycling missions have blossomed in the country, reaching people in all needy corners. It all began with a Taiwanese couple, He Guoqing(何國慶)and his wife, who held gatherings one after another, to recruit volunteers and members. Today, Canada has seven Tzu Chi Chapters, and 75 volunteer stations, with nearly 30,000 members.
在剛才歷史今天的報導裡，我們看到加拿大分會於1992年的今天成立，從此慈濟的慈善、醫療、教育及環保志業在當地蓬勃發展，幫助許多於社會黑暗角落的人，而這都要從一對台灣夫妻說起，何國慶與妻子舉辦許多茶會，接引志工與會員，如今，加拿大有七所分會，並陸續成立了75個志工站以及近三萬名慈濟會員。

1.菲再發大米 Rice for those in need
This year, Taiwan”s Council of Agriculture donated 6,820 metric tons of rice to Tzu Chi, for overseas humanitarian relief. Earlier in July, the Tzu Chi Philippines chapter began distributing some of the food into the hands people in need, and recently carried out another distribution in Barangay Tumana.
今年農委會特別捐贈6820公噸白米，進行人道援助，慈濟菲律賓分會七月份展開萬人白米發放後，最近這一次，還來到杜瑪那里的貧困社區進行發放。
2.澎湖義診 Penghu free clinic
Last weekend, TIMA members held a two-day free clinic on the offshore islands of Penghu澎湖, Taiwan. On the second day, they arrived at Huxi湖西 Township, where two doctors from Canada joined the event. Apart from the 105 residents who benefitted from the clinic, medical staff also made sure to visit people needing care, who were unable to attend the free clinic.
上周末，人醫會在澎湖舉行了兩天的義診活動，第二天來到了澎湖縣的湖西鄉，還有兩位加拿大人醫會的醫生，也一起參與這次的義診。除了服務當地105位鄉民，另外，人醫會也到部分行動不便的關懷戶家中，為他們看診。

3.空手逆轉勝(三) Karate kids go back to the village
The Guoxing Karate Team in Nantou, Taiwan, was set up after the 9/21 earthquake in 1999, to provide a place for indigenous children in disaster-hit areas to express themselves and develop a skill. Now 12 years later, the team has won numerous medals and other accolades. In our visit to the Karate Team today, we join some of the students as they travel back to their village in the mountains of Nantou.
南投國姓空手道隊，在1999年921地震後成立，讓來自地震重災區的原民部落，有一個可以表現自信和技能的地方，12年後，團隊贏得無數金牌和獎項。今天空手逆轉勝的專題中，跟著一些學生回到南投山上的故鄉一起去看看。

Next we meet Wu Jianlong(巫建龍) and his wife, from Caotun Township in Nantou County, Taiwan, who are both survivors of the 9/21 earthquake moved to join Tzu Chi.
接下來帶大家認識，住在南投縣草屯鎮的巫建龍夫妻，當時是921地震受災戶，因為搬入組合屋而加入慈濟行列。
《 衲履足跡 》談造福 On Creating Blessings
The frequency of natural and manmade disasters is an urgent reminder for people to improve themselves and make a difference around them. Karma is there: if everyone can be friendly towards each other, quit their bad ways, and tone down their tempers, it will bring more blessings to the world.
天下災難偏多，期待人人加快改變自己，才能改善周圍。業力是一股看不見的氣，故人人和和氣氣，修改自身習氣，多一個人改變脾氣，就多造一份福氣。
6.江西助學訪視 Visiting needy students in Jiangxi
In the 14 years of Tzu Chi”s work in Jiangxi江西, China, the seeds of love have blossomed as the first set of local volunteers have begun their training. Apart from attending seminars to learn about the organization”s philosophy, Shanghai上海 volunteers recently accompanied them on a trip to care for needy students. In our next report, we join the volunteers at Baizhu白竹Elementary School, where they were warmly welcomed by the students.
慈濟在江西助學十四年的時間，散播愛的種子，如今發芽了，因為有了第一批開始參加培訓的志工，除了平常精進課程之外，來自上海的慈濟志工，更陪伴他們進行訪視工作，在我們接下來的報導中，我們跟著志工到白竹小學，學生都歡欣鼓舞，迎接志工的到來。
7.靜思優良教師 Lin Xiuxia”s life after retirement
In our next story, we introduce you to Lin Xiuxia林秀霞 from Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The senior teacher devoted herself to promoting Tzu Chi”s Jing Si aphorisms after she retired in the year of 2000, and recruited many other Da Ai mothers in the past decade. Lin Xiuxia received recognition for her hard work at the recent Kaohsiung City Excellent Teachers Awards.
接下來的報導，我們來認識台灣高雄的資深老師林秀霞，她在兩千年退休後，就投入慈濟的靜思語教學，十多年來募集上千人次的大愛媽媽，最近在高雄市的資深優良教師獎典禮，林秀霞的努力得到了肯定。
8.麵包助獨老 Homemade bread for solitary seniors
The Gaoshi(高士) tribal community in Mudan(牡丹) Township, in Taiwan”s Taitung County, is home to a significant number of solitary seniors. Students at Gaoshi Elementary School started making bread rolls for their elderly neighbors, using a brick oven. This little act of love not only taught the children the value of sharing, but also brought the young and old closer together.
屏東縣牡丹鄉的高士部落，獨居長輩相當多，高士國小的學生利用校園裡的土窯，親自製作麵包分送給部落獨居長輩，拉近孩子們跟長輩們的距離，也讓學生學到了分享的精神。

1831 Faraday”s discovery
English chemist and physicist, Michael Faraday built the first electromagnetic generator which was named the Faraday disk in his honor, on this day in 1831. To commemorate his contribution to science, the unit of capacitance would be named after Faraday.
1939 The death of Sigmund Freud
Best known for his theories of the unconscious mind and the repression mechanism, Sigmund Freud, was an Austrian neurologist who founded the psychoanalysis discipline. He passed away in England, on this day in 1939, at the age of 83.
1998 Tzu Chi in Lesotho
An election caused political unrest in the capital city of Lesotho, and though South African armed forces moved into the land-locked country to suppress the uprising, ethnic conflict and looting continued. Tzu Chi volunteers in Lesotho and South Africa formed a relief team, to care for refugees and provide food.
2002 Flood in Czech Republic
In August, 2002, days of torrential rainfall caused severe flooding across Europe. The deluge was the worst to hit the Czech Republic in a century, and the capital city of Prague was submerged under water. Tzu Chi volunteers in Jordan and Turkey entered the country on this day in 2002, to assess the disaster area and plan for relief work. The next year, Tzu Chi donated a vehicle which would be named ”Plavacek” to the Zihove Children”s Home.
1831年 發電機問世 推進工業革命
英國科學家法拉第，在1831年的這一天，製作出世界首部發電機，隨後以他的名字作為機器名稱，為了紀念法拉第對科學的貢獻，以他的姓氏法拉第，作為計算電容量的單位名稱。
1939年 心理學大師 佛洛伊德逝世
最著名的潛意識及伊底帕斯情結概念，佛洛伊德是奧地利精神病醫師，也是精神分析學派的創始人，在1939年的這一天，於英國逝世，享年83歲。
1998年 賴索托排外暴動 慈濟人道關懷
因為選舉引發賴索托首都暴動，雖然南非部隊進駐鎮壓，群眾排外與搶劫案持續發生，賴索托與南非志工成立救援小組，前往關懷難民並提供食物。
2002年 捷克百年水患 慈濟勘災關懷
2002年8月，多天的豪大雨，在歐洲造成嚴重水患，也是捷克百年來最嚴重水患，造成文化古都布拉格一片汪洋，約旦和土耳其慈濟志工在2002年這一天，進入災區勘察、評估救援方向，隔年捐贈一部交通車給捷克兒童之家，院童將這部車命名為帕拉瓦捷克。
10.海稻的願望 Revival of terraced paddy fields
Some 20 years ago, when people travelled to eastern Taiwan”s Fengbin(豐濱) Township, they would see terraced paddy fields, planted by indigenous farmers, along the hills by the Pacific Ocean. But because of land development, the rare sight was lost. Thankfully, four years ago, the indigenous Amis people teamed up with Hualien County and the Forestry Bureau to revive their old way of life. The restoration of the terraces will be celebrated with a music festival this weekend.
二十幾年前，東台灣花蓮豐濱鄉，可以看到罕見的原住民的海邊稻浪，遍佈就在太平洋旁的山丘，但因為土地開發，這難得的景觀消失不再，還好四年前，阿美族人與花蓮縣政府，還有林務局合作找回老祖先的梯田，而這個周末將以音樂會慶祝大功告成。

The frequency of natural and manmade disasters is an urgent reminder for people to improve themselves and make a difference around them. Karma is there: if everyone can be friendly towards each other, quit their bad ways, and tone down their tempers, it will bring more blessings to the world.
天下災難偏多，期待人人加快改變自己，才能改善周圍。業力是一股看不見的氣，故人人和和氣氣，修改自身習氣，多一個人改變脾氣，就多造一份福氣。
6.江西助學訪視 Visiting needy students in Jiangxi
In the 14 years of Tzu Chi”s work in Jiangxi江西, China, the seeds of love have blossomed as the first set of local volunteers have begun their training. Apart from attending seminars to learn about the organization”s philosophy, Shanghai上海 volunteers recently accompanied them on a trip to care for needy students. In our next report, we join the volunteers at Baizhu白竹Elementary School, where they were warmly welcomed by the students.
慈濟在江西助學十四年的時間，散播愛的種子，如今發芽了，因為有了第一批開始參加培訓的志工，除了平常精進課程之外，來自上海的慈濟志工，更陪伴他們進行訪視工作，在我們接下來的報導中，我們跟著志工到白竹小學，學生都歡欣鼓舞，迎接志工的到來。
7.靜思優良教師 Lin Xiuxia”s life after retirement
In our next story, we introduce you to Lin Xiuxia林秀霞 from Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The senior teacher devoted herself to promoting Tzu Chi”s Jing Si aphorisms after she retired in the year of 2000, and recruited many other Da Ai mothers in the past decade. Lin Xiuxia received recognition for her hard work at the recent Kaohsiung City Excellent Teachers Awards.
接下來的報導，我們來認識台灣高雄的資深老師林秀霞，她在兩千年退休後，就投入慈濟的靜思語教學，十多年來募集上千人次的大愛媽媽，最近在高雄市的資深優良教師獎典禮，林秀霞的努力得到了肯定。
8.麵包助獨老 Homemade bread for solitary seniors
The Gaoshi(高士) tribal community in Mudan(牡丹) Township, in Taiwan”s Taitung County, is home to a significant number of solitary seniors. Students at Gaoshi Elementary School started making bread rolls for their elderly neighbors, using a brick oven. This little act of love not only taught the children the value of sharing, but also brought the young and old closer together.
屏東縣牡丹鄉的高士部落，獨居長輩相當多，高士國小的學生利用校園裡的土窯，親自製作麵包分送給部落獨居長輩，拉近孩子們跟長輩們的距離，也讓學生學到了分享的精神。

1831 Faraday”s discovery
English chemist and physicist, Michael Faraday built the first electromagnetic generator which was named the Faraday disk in his honor, on this day in 1831. To commemorate his contribution to science, the unit of capacitance would be named after Faraday.
1939 The death of Sigmund Freud
Best known for his theories of the unconscious mind and the repression mechanism, Sigmund Freud, was an Austrian neurologist who founded the psychoanalysis discipline. He passed away in England, on this day in 1939, at the age of 83.
1998 Tzu Chi in Lesotho
An election caused political unrest in the capital city of Lesotho, and though South African armed forces moved into the land-locked country to suppress the uprising, ethnic conflict and looting continued. Tzu Chi volunteers in Lesotho and South Africa formed a relief team, to care for refugees and provide food.
2002 Flood in Czech Republic
In August, 2002, days of torrential rainfall caused severe flooding across Europe. The deluge was the worst to hit the Czech Republic in a century, and the capital city of Prague was submerged under water. Tzu Chi volunteers in Jordan and Turkey entered the country on this day in 2002, to assess the disaster area and plan for relief work. The next year, Tzu Chi donated a vehicle which would be named ”Plavacek” to the Zihove Children”s Home.

1998年 賴索托排外暴動 慈濟人道關懷
因為選舉引發賴索托首都暴動，雖然南非部隊進駐鎮壓，群眾排外與搶劫案持續發生，賴索托與南非志工成立救援小組，前往關懷難民並提供食物。
2002年 捷克百年水患 慈濟勘災關懷
2002年8月，多天的豪大雨，在歐洲造成嚴重水患，也是捷克百年來最嚴重水患，造成文化古都布拉格一片汪洋，約旦和土耳其慈濟志工在2002年這一天，進入災區勘察、評估救援方向，隔年捐贈一部交通車給捷克兒童之家，院童將這部車命名為帕拉瓦捷克。
10.海稻的願望 Revival of terraced paddy fields
Some 20 years ago, when people travelled to eastern Taiwan”s Fengbin(豐濱) Township, they would see terraced paddy fields, planted by indigenous farmers, along the hills by the Pacific Ocean. But because of land development, the rare sight was lost. Thankfully, four years ago, the indigenous Amis people teamed up with Hualien County and the Forestry Bureau to revive their old way of life. The restoration of the terraces will be celebrated with a music festival this weekend.
二十幾年前，東台灣花蓮豐濱鄉，可以看到罕見的原住民的海邊稻浪，遍佈就在太平洋旁的山丘，但因為土地開發，這難得的景觀消失不再，還好四年前，阿美族人與花蓮縣政府，還有林務局合作找回老祖先的梯田，而這個周末將以音樂會慶祝大功告成。

1.美食物儲藏周年 Tzu Chi NJ Food Pantry turns 1
We start today”s show in the US state of New Jersey, to celebrate the first anniversary of Tzu Chi”s local food pantry. Established one year ago, the pantry not only provides vegetarian food, but is managed with the aid of a computerized system. Currently, 191 families rely on the ultra-modern and eco-friendly food pantry for their weekly nutritional needs. A total of 1,304 families have been serviced within the past year.
今天節目一開始來到美國的新澤西，來慶祝慈濟食物銀行開幕一周年，這一年前成立的食物銀行只提供素食，並有一套完善的電腦化系統，如今有191個家庭，固定來到這個現代化又環保的食物銀行領取物資，一年來也已經服務1304個家庭。
2.牛鼻子村環保 Recycling by example
Also making a difference, one volunteer in Niubizi(牛鼻子) village, of Hanwang(漢旺), in China”s Sichuan Province, has taken it upon himself to pick through the trash to find recyclables. Since he used to be the village head, at first, his fellow residents wondered what he was up to. But, as time went by, the villagers began to join him on his rounds.

In Sri Lanka, local volunteers in Colombo are actively carrying out Tzu Chi”s missions. They recently helped a poor local family rebuild their home, inspiring many others to join in.
斯里蘭卡的本地志工積極推廣慈濟志業，最近他們幫助一戶人家，重新打造他們的破屋，帶動了許多善心人士的加入。
4.馬國妮瑪拉 New Shoots program helps kids bloom
From Sri Lanka to Malaysia, where we meet Malacca resident Nimala, who was a full-time homemaker, until her husband was injured in a crash. She, and her children, began husking corn, for 25 US cents a kilo, to get by. But now the children are receiving scholarships through Tzu Chi”s New Shoots program.
從斯里蘭卡轉到馬來西亞，來認識一位馬六甲居民-妮瑪拉，原本是一位全職家庭主婦，直到她先生遭遇一場車禍，妮瑪拉與孩子開始剝玉米粒，一公斤的玉米粒只換取 25分錢美幣，不過從現在起，妮瑪拉的孩子接受慈濟的新芽助學金。
5.馬器捐遺愛 Organ donor saves 5
Staying in Malacca, only a months after signing up to become an organ donor, Zhou Zhixing(周志興), was involved in a road accident, that left him brain dead. The young man”s father fulfilled his son”s wish, and donated his liver, kidneys, and eyes to help five people get a new start in life.
也是馬六甲的報導，簽署器官捐贈一個月後，周志興因傷勢過重而腦死，周爸爸選擇完成孩子的遺願，將孩子的肝臟、腎臟和眼角膜捐出，也因此讓五位病人得到重生。

The duty of a medical practitioner is not only to treat an illness, but the patient”s state of mind as well.
It is important to open up patients” hearts, and help rid them of their worries. A doctor”s true mission is to bring balance to people and the environment.
學醫不只是醫人身病痛，還要醫心，打開人人的心門，引導病患遠離憂鬱。醫人、醫心、醫大地，才真正是行醫救世。
6.空手逆轉勝(二) Karate opens doors for indigenous kids
In our continuing series of reports from Taiwan”s famous Guoxing Karate Team - which was formed in the aftermath of the 1999 earthquake, to help indigenous children from the central mountains - we take a look at the dormitory-life of the students. Their food and lodgings are provide free of charge, but the young champions have to learn to look after themselves.
空手逆轉勝的專題中，帶您來看南投國姓空手道隊的奮鬥故事，這個空手道隊是在1999年621地震後成立的，是為了幫助中台灣山區的原住民部落，今天帶大家看看團體住宿生活的學生，食宿免費提供，不過這些孩子要學會照顧自己的生活起居。
7.921系列(2)爽文王政忠 Giving his students the best education
Most of the students at Guoxing Karate Club come from families who were hit by the 921 earthquake. Yesterday was the 12th anniversary of the disaster. In the aftermath, Tzu Chi helped rebuild 51 schools. Today, we take you back to Shuangwen Junior High, to meet one of the teachers, who has an inspiring story.
國姓空手道隊的團員，大部分都經歷過台灣921大地震，昨天是地震的12周年紀念，當時慈濟協助重建災區51所學校，今天帶您回到爽文國中，這裡有一位老師因為受到證嚴上人的啟發，要讓他的學生受到最好的教育。
8.0922歷史的今天 On this day, the 22nd of September.
1985 Ven. Master Hsing Yun
Born in China”s Jiangsu Province, Venerable Master Hsing Yun was tonsured at the age of 12, and arrived in Taiwan when he was 23. He established the ”Fo Guang Shan” monastery in 1967, and announced his resignation on this day in 1985, handing over his abbotship to his senior disciple, Hsin Ping. The Master is also the founder of Buddha”s Light International Association.
2000 World Car Free Day
Originally launched by Britain and France, Car Free Day encourages residents to take public transportation instead of driving a car. The program went global in 2000, when September 22 was declared World Car Free Day.
2003 Yuli TC Hospital
To save lives and safeguard local residents” health in east Taiwan, the Tzu Chi Foundation build a new hospital in Yuli, in between Hualien and Taitung, which was completed and opened on this day in 2003. Residents and hospital staff celebrated the opening of the hospital together.
1985年 星雲法師 佛光傳承
出生於中國的江蘇省，星雲法師12歲出家，23歲到台灣弘法，1967年創建佛光山，在1985年這一天交棒給弟子-心平法師，星雲大師隨後也成立了國際佛光會。
2000年 世界無車日 減少碳足跡
原本由法國與英國發起無車日，鼓勵居民不要開車，搭乘公共交通，兩千年世界各國隨之響應，而9月22日被稱為世界無車日。
2003年 玉里慈濟醫院 啟用新院區
為了搶救生命及守護台灣東部地區居民的健康，慈濟基金會在玉里，位於花蓮與台東之間新蓋醫院，在2003年這一天完成，醫謢人員與居民一同慶祝啟用典禮。
9.送愛尼泊爾 Bringing love to the needy
Over 100 students from Taiwan”s Tunghai University, divided into five teams to go volunteering over the summer break, in Canada, Taiwan, China and Nepal. The students who went to the Himalayas had to carry 20kg backpacks for 17 days, before reaching their destination.
台中東海大學一百多位學生，今年暑假分成了五條路線，前往加拿大 台灣 中國和尼泊爾等地當志工，其中前往尼泊爾的學生
要背二十公斤重的行李，連走十七天的山路 才能到達地點。

1.馬印度村水災Flood relief in Kuang
In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Tzu Chi volunteers arrived in the small town of Kuang to the north, which was recently flooded. The emergency cash and the love brought by the volunteers helped the flood victims understand that they won”t have to suffer alone.
馬來西亞吉隆坡的慈濟志工，來到北邊的遭逢大水的轟埠小鎮，送上關懷與慰問金，讓災民知道他們並不孤單。
2.賴索托供食Food for Hermana School
The huge donation of rice from the Taiwanese government is finding its way to needy communities all over the world, thanks to the help of volunteers on the ground. In Lesotho, volunteers not only made brunch with the rice for 340 children at the Hermana Primary School, but also decided to give the school 100kg of the grain every month.
台灣農委會捐贈的愛心米，送往全球各地的需要貧戶，感恩各地志工的協助。非洲賴索托慈濟人，帶著米走進賀麻衲小學校園，準備早午餐。第一次志工嘗試在不熟悉的廚房煮白米飯，還必須分批煮，讓340位學童都有食物吃，不過孩子們並不介意，現在志工決定每個月給100公斤的白米，讓學校能夠為孩子多買些水果。
3.三芝義診 Sanzhi District free clinic
Moving to Taiwan, TIMA medical staff regularly provide medical service to seniors who have trouble moving about. We follow northern TIMA members and volunteers on a trip to Sanzhi三芝 District where they made house calls and held a free clinic.
將鏡頭轉到台灣，人醫會經常到偏遠地區，關懷外出不便的老人家，提供醫療服務。我們跟著北部人醫會與志工，來到三芝地區，在當地進行居家探訪 以及舉辦義診。
4.澎湖吉貝義診 Annual free clinic on Jibei Island
Staying on the topic of TIMA team”s outreach, the northern Taiwan TIMA members also once again travelled by air and sea to reach Jibei Island, on the northern tip of the Penghu Archipelago, to hold the annual free clinic.
持續報導關於人醫會，再度搭飛機又搭船，來到澎湖群島北邊的的吉貝島，舉辦一年一度的義診。
5.微笑站起(四) Every stroke a sign of hope
At the cash aid relief in Minamisanriku Town, in Japan”s quake affected Miyagi Prefecture, volunteers befriended Mr. and Mrs. Suzuki, who were both retired teachers. The March 11th disaster took away both their homes, and some loved ones. Now, though the Suzuki”s are barely getting by, they insisted on giving free calligraphy lessons for young disaster vicitms using Tzu Chi”s consolation cash.
慈濟前往宮城縣南三陸町發放見舞金，志工們認識了來領取的鈴木夫妻，他們是退休老師，3月11號的大災難，不但失去家園還痛失親人，雖然生活拮据，仍免費教導災區孩童書法課，這次領到的見舞金剛好替孩子們購買書法用品。
6.空手逆轉勝(一) Quake-area children kick to success
On September 21, 1999, Taiwan was rocked by the 921 earthquake, with the epicenter in Nantou County. A karate coach couple from Taichung, Huang Taiji and wife Liao Delan decided to move to Nantou, to train disaster-area children. In the last 12 years, they have helped nearly 500 children learn to face up to their problems, by practicing the discipline of karate.
1999年，台灣九二一大地震，震央位置的南投縣，受創嚴重。有一對夫妻，黃泰吉與廖德蘭，兩人都是空手道教練，決定搬到災區為孩童進行心靈重建，12個寒暑過去了，國姓空手道隊，前後幫助將近500位學生，透過學習空手道 面對人生。

1993 Tzu Chi Keelung Office
Inspired by Master Cheng Yen, Keelung resident, Lin Weiqiang donated his house to Tzu Chi. After six months of preparation, the Tzu Chi Keelung Office officially opened in the property on this day in 1993, marking the beginning of the NGO”s charity and conservation work in the area.
1999 921 Earthquake
At 1.47am, on this day in 1999, a 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck Jiji in Nantou County, central Taiwan, causing over 2,400 deaths, and 11,000 injuries. Tzu Chi volunteers around the globe mobilized for disaster relief work and raised funds to help disaster victims rebuild their houses, as well as schools in disaster areas.
2002 World Peace Day
A new resolution was passed by the United Nation”s General Assembly in September, 2001, to make the International Day of Peace, or World Peace Day, on the 21st of September, which came in to effect on this day in 2002. The absence of war and on-going peace is celebrated on World Peace Day.
1993年 啟發良知新道場 慈濟基隆聯絡處
受到證嚴法師的啟發，家住基隆的林維強捐出自家房屋，經過半年籌備，在1993年的這一天，正式成為慈濟在基隆的據點，從此展開慈善訪視、環保教育。
1999年 九二一強震 台灣愛心大集合
在1999年的這一天，凌晨一點四十七分，在台灣中部南投集集，發生規模7.3 的大地震，造成2,400多人死亡，11,000人受傷，全球慈濟志工動員救災與募款，協助災民重建家園 並援建災區學校。
2002年 世界和平日 全球停火止干戈
在2001年九月的聯合國大會中，通過將世界和平日改為每年的9月21號，並在隔年 2002年的這一天執行，希望這天能夠停止戰爭、持續和平。
8.米雕自助助人 Life story of a single mom
Rice carving artist Chen Duanduan陳端端 was an orphan, who divorced at the age of 30 with two children left in her care. At one point, the financial burden of supporting her family was so much it nearly drove her to take her own life. Luckily, she came across Jing Si Aphorisms, which gave her the strength to go on and share her love with others.
米雕藝術家陳端端，從小在育幼院長大，三十歲那年她離婚，並且開始獨力撫養兩個孩子，有一段時間，經濟壓力曾經壓得她喘不過去，甚至想結束自己的生命，幸好這時候她接觸到靜思語，讓她找回了生命勇氣，並與其他人分享這份愛。
9.原民手創燈展 88 floods victims hard at work
Still in Taiwan, at the Shanlin Da Ai Community, which houses displaced survivors of 2009”s 88 floods, residents are trying to support themselves by making handcrafts. Their handmade LED lanterns, which combine traditional Taiwanese designs and indigenous embroidery, are becoming quite popular in expos in China.
持續留在台灣，慈濟杉林大愛園區住著88風災的災民，為了能夠自給自足，學習製作手工藝品，他們創作的LED十字繡文創燈，透過展覽在中國受到很大的迴響。

1.馬印度村水災Flood relief in Kuang
In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Tzu Chi volunteers arrived in the small town of Kuang to the north, which was recently flooded. The emergency cash and the love brought by the volunteers helped the flood victims understand that they won”t have to suffer alone.
馬來西亞吉隆坡的慈濟志工，來到北邊的遭逢大水的轟埠小鎮，送上關懷與慰問金，讓災民知道他們並不孤單。
2.賴索托供食Food for Hermana School
The huge donation of rice from the Taiwanese government is finding its way to needy communities all over the world, thanks to the help of volunteers on the ground. In Lesotho, volunteers not only made brunch with the rice for 340 children at the Hermana Primary School, but also decided to give the school 100kg of the grain every month.
台灣農委會捐贈的愛心米，送往全球各地的需要貧戶，感恩各地志工的協助。非洲賴索托慈濟人，帶著米走進賀麻衲小學校園，準備早午餐。第一次志工嘗試在不熟悉的廚房煮白米飯，還必須分批煮，讓340位學童都有食物吃，不過孩子們並不介意，現在志工決定每個月給100公斤的白米，讓學校能夠為孩子多買些水果。
3.三芝義診 Sanzhi District free clinic
Moving to Taiwan, TIMA medical staff regularly provide medical service to seniors who have trouble moving about. We follow northern TIMA members and volunteers on a trip to Sanzhi三芝 District where they made house calls and held a free clinic.
將鏡頭轉到台灣，人醫會經常到偏遠地區，關懷外出不便的老人家，提供醫療服務。我們跟著北部人醫會與志工，來到三芝地區，在當地進行居家探訪 以及舉辦義診。
4.澎湖吉貝義診 Annual free clinic on Jibei Island
Staying on the topic of TIMA team”s outreach, the northern Taiwan TIMA members also once again travelled by air and sea to reach Jibei Island, on the northern tip of the Penghu Archipelago, to hold the annual free clinic.
持續報導關於人醫會，再度搭飛機又搭船，來到澎湖群島北邊的的吉貝島，舉辦一年一度的義診。
5.微笑站起(四) Every stroke a sign of hope
At the cash aid relief in Minamisanriku Town, in Japan”s quake affected Miyagi Prefecture, volunteers befriended Mr. and Mrs. Suzuki, who were both retired teachers. The March 11th disaster took away both their homes, and some loved ones. Now, though the Suzuki”s are barely getting by, they insisted on giving free calligraphy lessons for young disaster vicitms using Tzu Chi”s consolation cash.
慈濟前往宮城縣南三陸町發放見舞金，志工們認識了來領取的鈴木夫妻，他們是退休老師，3月11號的大災難，不但失去家園還痛失親人，雖然生活拮据，仍免費教導災區孩童書法課，這次領到的見舞金剛好替孩子們購買書法用品。
6.空手逆轉勝(一) Quake-area children kick to success
On September 21, 1999, Taiwan was rocked by the 921 earthquake, with the epicenter in Nantou County. A karate coach couple from Taichung, Huang Taiji and wife Liao Delan decided to move to Nantou, to train disaster-area children. In the last 12 years, they have helped nearly 500 children learn to face up to their problems, by practicing the discipline of karate.
1999年，台灣九二一大地震，震央位置的南投縣，受創嚴重。有一對夫妻，黃泰吉與廖德蘭，兩人都是空手道教練，決定搬到災區為孩童進行心靈重建，12個寒暑過去了，國姓空手道隊，前後幫助將近500位學生，透過學習空手道 面對人生。

1993 Tzu Chi Keelung Office
Inspired by Master Cheng Yen, Keelung resident, Lin Weiqiang donated his house to Tzu Chi. After six months of preparation, the Tzu Chi Keelung Office officially opened in the property on this day in 1993, marking the beginning of the NGO”s charity and conservation work in the area.
1999 921 Earthquake
At 1.47am, on this day in 1999, a 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck Jiji in Nantou County, central Taiwan, causing over 2,400 deaths, and 11,000 injuries. Tzu Chi volunteers around the globe mobilized for disaster relief work and raised funds to help disaster victims rebuild their houses, as well as schools in disaster areas.
2002 World Peace Day
A new resolution was passed by the United Nation”s General Assembly in September, 2001, to make the International Day of Peace, or World Peace Day, on the 21st of September, which came in to effect on this day in 2002. The absence of war and on-going peace is celebrated on World Peace Day.
1993年 啟發良知新道場 慈濟基隆聯絡處
受到證嚴法師的啟發，家住基隆的林維強捐出自家房屋，經過半年籌備，在1993年的這一天，正式成為慈濟在基隆的據點，從此展開慈善訪視、環保教育。
1999年 九二一強震 台灣愛心大集合
在1999年的這一天，凌晨一點四十七分，在台灣中部南投集集，發生規模7.3 的大地震，造成2,400多人死亡，11,000人受傷，全球慈濟志工動員救災與募款，協助災民重建家園 並援建災區學校。
2002年 世界和平日 全球停火止干戈
在2001年九月的聯合國大會中，通過將世界和平日改為每年的9月21號，並在隔年 2002年的這一天執行，希望這天能夠停止戰爭、持續和平。
8.米雕自助助人 Life story of a single mom
Rice carving artist Chen Duanduan陳端端 was an orphan, who divorced at the age of 30 with two children left in her care. At one point, the financial burden of supporting her family was so much it nearly drove her to take her own life. Luckily, she came across Jing Si Aphorisms, which gave her the strength to go on and share her love with others.
米雕藝術家陳端端，從小在育幼院長大，三十歲那年她離婚，並且開始獨力撫養兩個孩子，有一段時間，經濟壓力曾經壓得她喘不過去，甚至想結束自己的生命，幸好這時候她接觸到靜思語，讓她找回了生命勇氣，並與其他人分享這份愛。
9.原民手創燈展 88 floods victims hard at work
Still in Taiwan, at the Shanlin Da Ai Community, which houses displaced survivors of 2009”s 88 floods, residents are trying to support themselves by making handcrafts. Their handmade LED lanterns, which combine traditional Taiwanese designs and indigenous embroidery, are becoming quite popular in expos in China.
持續留在台灣，慈濟杉林大愛園區住著88風災的災民，為了能夠自給自足，學習製作手工藝品，他們創作的LED十字繡文創燈，透過展覽在中國受到很大的迴響。

1.健康促進年會 A model in health promotion
The fifth annual convention of the Taiwan Health Promoting Hospital Association was held on Sunday, September 18, at Wanfang(萬芳) Hospital in Taipei. During the official gathering, the Dalin Tzu Chi Hospital was awarded the Model Health Promoting Hospital, and the CEO of Tzu Chi”s medical mission, Dr. Lin Junlong, was also appointed as the chairman of the association”s board.
台灣健康醫院學會第五屆年會，星期天18日在萬芳醫院舉行，大林慈院則是榮獲今年健康促進醫院中典範醫院的獎項，慈濟醫療志業執行長林俊龍，更被票選為理事長。
2.大林健康促進 Patient care & employee wellbeing
Dalin Tzu Chi Hospital began promoting community health, employee wellbeing, and environmental awareness in 2006. As you just saw, those efforts won the hospital this year”s Model Health Promoting Hospital award. In the next report we find out what makes Dalin Tzu Chi Hospital stand out.

3.新澤西清掃 New Jersey flood clean-up
Moving to the United States, as some homes were still submerged after Hurricane Irene flooded the east coast, New Jersey volunteers went to a community in the northwest of the state, to help flood victims tidy up their homes.
轉到美國，因為艾琳颶風在東部造成的災情，讓許多人家的房子還泡在水中，新澤西慈濟人前往西北部的兩個小鎮，為受災居民輕掃家園。
4.解剖十五(四) Quiet approval for Silent Mentor class
To facilitate Tzu Chi”s simulated surgery, the director of the Simulated Surgery Center, Dr. Zeng Guofan, discovered a quick-freeze method, that allows cadavers to be stored for long periods, and returned to a life-like state when they are defrosted. The technology helps doctors practice their skills almost as if operating on a real patient.
為了讓慈濟模擬手術進行順利，解剖學科主任曾國藩發現，若能用急速冷凍保存大體，回溫後的大體組織
與臨床手術的人體相同，如此的技術若能應用在臨床手術上，就能幫助外科醫師的養成。
5.大體曾陳玉霞 Silent Mentor: Zeng-Chen Yuxia
One of the recent Silent Mentors at TCU was Zeng-Chen Yuxia(曾陳玉霞). The devoted mother of four passed away from liver cancer in November 2008. Since her mother was also a Silent Mentor, Zeng-Chen Yuxia decided to follow in her footsteps and also donate her body to medical science.
今天要帶您認識的大體老師是曾陳玉霞女士，這位有著四個孩子的賢妻良母，2008年11月因肝癌病逝，而因為曾陳玉霞的媽媽也是位大體老師，她跟著媽媽的腳步也奉獻己身，成就醫學教育。
《 衲履足跡 》On Compassion & Wisdom 談慈悲智慧
Compassion must be exercised alongside wisdom. For example, in disaster relief work, we have to make a list of priorities and steps.
We must learn to be grateful if a typhoon passes without causing too much damage, and understand that any suffering helps offset negative karma.
慈悲、智慧要平行，應用智慧思考緩急，希望慈善工作也要有進階方式。要感恩颱風過後，並無大災，受一時的災難即消一時的業障。
6.微笑站起(三) School aid for Kamaishi
After the March 11 Japanese earthquake and tsunami, most of the schools in Kamaishi of Iwate Prefecture were left unscathed. But because the local economy was based around the ocean, families have lost their source of income, and are struggling to get by. That”s why the Tzu Chi Foundation made a large donation to Kamaishi schools to buy meals for the children, for one semester. Now parents do not have to worry about paying for school lunch.
日本三一一地震後，在岩手縣釜石市的學校未受損，不過因為居民多半靠海維生，海嘯過後全部停擺，家長沒有收入，生活都有困難，慈濟基金會了解後，特別支援釜石市學童一學期營養午餐，讓家長不用擔心餐費。
7.0920歷史的今天 On this day, 20th of September.
1946 Cannes Film Festival
The first Cannes International Film Festival was originally planed for September 1 to 30, 1939. However, due to the Second World War, it was only until this day in 1946 that the festival was finally held. Cannes is one of the most prestigious film festivals today.
1993 Singapore TC Chapter
In 1987, Taiwanese Tzu Chi volunteers in Singapore began caring for the needy. On this day in 1993, with the approval of the local government, the Tzu Chi Singapore Chapter was formally established, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Tzu Chi in the country.
1997 New school buildings
Situated in Jiangxi Province, China, the only school in the mountainous area of Yichun City, was built by the local residents. To ensure the children”s safety, Shanghai Tzu Chi volunteers decided to build new classrooms, which were complete on this day in 1997. Today, volunteers hand out scholarships funds to the students every year, to help them continue their education.
1998 Free clinic in Brazil
Tzu Chi began holding free clinics in Brazil in 1995, providing internal medicine, dental, pediatrics and gynecology treatment to the needy. On this day in 1998, an ophthalmology service became available, and free glasses would be given to those in need in April the next year.
1946年 首屆坎城影展 法國開幕
首屆坎城影展原本計劃於1939年9月份期間舉辦，不過因世界二次大戰，直到1946年的這一天才正式展開。如今，坎城影展是世界著名的影展之一。
1993年 慈濟新加坡分會 獲准成立
1987年開始，來自台灣的慈濟志工，在新加坡訪貧關懷，在1993年這一天正式獲得當地政府註冊局的批准，成立慈濟新加坡分會，開啟慈濟在新加坡的慈善推廣。
1997年 江西白竹小學 山區孩童讀書樂
位在中國的江西省，宜春市山區的唯一一所小學，校舍原本由當地村民搭建而成，為了保障孩童就學安全，上海地區的慈濟志工決定援建全新校舍，在1997年這一天完工，志工還每年到校致贈獎助學金，讓孩童安心讀書。
1998年 慈濟巴西義診 首次加入眼科
從1995年開始慈濟在巴西舉辦義診，有內科、牙科、小兒科以及婦科，在1998年這一天開始第一次的眼科義診，隔年四月還免費為民眾配眼鏡 。
8.巴西眼科 Free clinic with ophthalmology
The Tzu Chi Brazil Office began holding free clinics in 1995, providing internal medicine and dental treatment first, and gradually added pediatrics, gynecology, and ophthalmology services. In 1999, the free clinic also began offering prescription glasses to patients, free of charge. Let”s look at Tzu Chi-Brazil”s 13 years of healthcare commitment.
慈濟巴西聯絡處，從1995年開始舉辦義診，開始只有內科和牙科，慢慢的增加小兒科、婦產科與眼科服務。到了1999年，更開始發放免費眼鏡給需要的居民，讓我們一起來看看，慈濟在巴西13年來的付出。

1.棉蘭發大米 Rice for 8,000 Medan families
This year, Taiwan”s Council of Agriculture donated thousands of tons of rice overseas for humanitarian aid, allocating 5,000 tons to Indonesia. The first lot arrived at the end of July, and was distributed, through Tzu Chi, to low-income families. In Medan and surrounding areas alone, Tzu Chi has already handed out 161 tons of the food to more than 8,000 families.
今年，台灣農委會捐贈白米人道援助，其中有五千噸運往印尼，第一批已經在七月底運抵，印尼慈濟人分別送往需要的地方，其中棉蘭和附近地區，慈濟人已經發放了161公噸，幫助超過八千戶人家。
2.雅加達訪老孤 Visiting needy seniors and children
Staying in Indonesia for our next story, we follow Tzu Chi volunteers in the Jakarta area to a local nursing home and an orphanage. The volunteers kept the elderly residents company, and brought them food and consolation money. Meanwhile, at the orphanage, games were used to teach the children about good manners.
接著帶大家到印尼，西雅加達區的慈濟人關懷當地的養老院和兒童收容所，志工們陪伴老人話家常，也發放了食物和慰問金，另外在兒童收容所，志工們藉著遊戲教導孩子日常生活的禮節。

3.解剖十五(三)尊重與尊嚴 Inside the Silent Mentor program
At Tzu Chi University, the simulated surgery and anatomy classes are carried out with the help of ”Silent Mentors”, who are people who donated their cadavers to the school. Deeply respected in Tzu Chi, the Silent Mentors have inspired reforms in Taiwan”s medical education system, and changed the way people view life and death.
慈濟大學因為有大體老師，將往生後的身體捐出來供醫療教學，才能舉行模擬手術與解剖課程，也因為慈濟對無語良師的尊重，為台灣的醫學教育帶來改變，也改變人們面對生死的態度。
4.大體謝萬農 Silent Mentor Xie Wannong
In continuation of our series on Silent Mentors, today we take you to meet Xie Wannong(謝萬農) who passed away due to complications from a stroke on the eve of Mother”s Day, 2007. Although it was hard for his mother to let him go, thanks to Wannong”s vow to become a Silent Mentor, she found the strength to redouble her efforts in Tzu Chi.
無語良師的專題，今天要帶您認識的是謝萬農老師，他往生的日子是在母親節前夕，做母親的心中當然不捨，但是因為兒子成為慈濟的大體老師，媽媽將這份特別的禮物，轉化為做慈濟更大的動力。
《 衲履足跡 》On Spiritual Reformation 談救心
Natural disasters are unpredictable. When Taiwan entered autumn in 2010, it was struck by super typhoon Fanapi. The disruption of weather patterns is closely linked to human actions.
Therefore, saving the world begins with reforming human hearts, and that is done by undergoing great repentance.
天有不測風雲，去年在入秋時分，尚有凡那比強颱襲台，令人感到氣候的異常。人的心靈軌道混亂，氣候也會跟著亂序，欲救世唯從救心起，行大懺悔祈求重業輕受。
5.微笑站起(二) 1st step to reconstruction: clear debris
Reconstruction of quake-hit Miyagi Prefecture, in northeast Japan, began mid-September. The first step was to clear out the debris left behind by the tsunami, and recycle the garbage for future use. Let”s see how people in Minamisanriku Town began their reconstruction project.
日本宮城縣九月中旬開始，執行重建復興計畫，首先就是要清理因為海嘯而製造的大量廢棄物，先將各類廢棄物分類後，回收再利用，讓我們一起來看看南三陸町，如何展開他們的重建計畫。
6.女川町佐佐木 Keeping husband”s memory alive
As post-quake reconstruction continues apace in Japan, the 15,000 people who lost their lives are still deeply missed by their loved ones. In our next story, we introduce you to Eiko Sasaki, from Miyagi Prefecture”s Onagawa, who decided to keep the memory of her husband alive, by serving alongside Tzu Chi volunteers.
3月11號日本東北發生九級地震，引發大海嘯，造成至少一萬五千人死亡，現在為您介紹宮城縣女川町的佐佐木英子，為了延續丈夫的精神，她決定跟著慈濟志工一起服務人群。

1965 Rin Kaiho”s big Go win
Professional Go player Lin Haifeng(林海峰), who is better known as ”Rin Kaiho” in Japan, came to fame at the tender age of 23, when beat the Japanese ”Go!” master Sakata Eio on this day in 1965. He was a student of the great Wu Qingyuan(吳清源) - or Go Seigen - who goes by the title of the ”unsinkable aircraft carrier” in Japanese Go! circles.
2001 Nali floods Da Ai TV
On the evening of this day in 2001, Da Ai TV staff started a rescue mission to save over 20,000 video cassette tapes submerged in water in the flooded basement of the television station. Tzu Chi volunteers also joined the effort, to restore the footage and preserve the valuable archive.
2008 Marrow donor registry study
Taking 85 distinct DNA sequences - called ”haplotypes” - collected from Taiwanese donors, scientists at Tzu Chi”s Stem Cell Center predicted over 400 haplotypes. The information helped patients searching for stem cell donors in Tzu Chi”s registry, improved the success rate of bone marrow transplants, and even contributed to anthropology research.
1965年 圍棋高手林海峰 勇奪日本名人
圍棋高手林海峰，年僅23歲的林海峰，在1965年這天擊敗日本棋王，他師承台灣圍棋大國手吳清源，被日本棋壇譽為永不沉沒的航空母艦。
2001年 納莉水淹大愛台 志工接力救影帶
2001年，從這天晚上開始，大愛電視台同仁涉水進入地下片庫，搶救被水淹過的兩萬多支錄影帶，慈濟志工也全力動員清洗，修復影帶、守護慧命。
2008年 花蓮慈院新創舉 半倍型基因資料庫
從八十五種台灣人的半倍型基因資料庫中，推算出四百多種可辨識的半倍型基因，有助於幹細胞的比對，增加骨髓移植成功率，甚至有助於人類學的研究。
8.赤腳善人 84-year-old philanthropist, Liang Jinchi
84-year-old Liang Jinchi(梁金池) owns a rice mill in Fuxing(福興) Township, in Taiwan”s Changhua County. Passionate about his home town, Liang not only donated his house as a community activity center, but also makes yearly contributions to the community fund. The generous man shares his wealth with others, enriching his neighborhood with the spirit of giving.
今年84歲住在彰化縣福興鄉的梁金池，是一家米廠老板，他捐出房子做為社區活動中心，甚至每年捐款當做社區基金，樂善好施的他認為，希望把熱心公益的精神傳出去。
9.東莞敬老 Bringing love to local senior residents
Tzu Chi volunteers in Dongguan of Guangdong Province, China, recently paid a visit to a local nursing home. Volunteers designed some simple activities to get the elderly people to do some exercise, and also gave them massages and manicures.
中國廣東省東莞慈濟志工，最近到當地的敬老院關懷老人家，為了讓爺爺奶奶可以活動筋骨，因此設計了簡單的活動，並幫老人家按摩及修剪指甲。

1.棉蘭發大米 Rice for 8,000 Medan families
This year, Taiwan”s Council of Agriculture donated thousands of tons of rice overseas for humanitarian aid, allocating 5,000 tons to Indonesia. The first lot arrived at the end of July, and was distributed, through Tzu Chi, to low-income families. In Medan and surrounding areas alone, Tzu Chi has already handed out 161 tons of the food to more than 8,000 families.
今年，台灣農委會捐贈白米人道援助，其中有五千噸運往印尼，第一批已經在七月底運抵，印尼慈濟人分別送往需要的地方，其中棉蘭和附近地區，慈濟人已經發放了161公噸，幫助超過八千戶人家。
2.雅加達訪老孤 Visiting needy seniors and children
Staying in Indonesia for our next story, we follow Tzu Chi volunteers in the Jakarta area to a local nursing home and an orphanage. The volunteers kept the elderly residents company, and brought them food and consolation money. Meanwhile, at the orphanage, games were used to teach the children about good manners.
接著帶大家到印尼，西雅加達區的慈濟人關懷當地的養老院和兒童收容所，志工們陪伴老人話家常，也發放了食物和慰問金，另外在兒童收容所，志工們藉著遊戲教導孩子日常生活的禮節。

At Tzu Chi University, the simulated surgery and anatomy classes are carried out with the help of ”Silent Mentors”, who are people who donated their cadavers to the school. Deeply respected in Tzu Chi, the Silent Mentors have inspired reforms in Taiwan”s medical education system, and changed the way people view life and death.
慈濟大學因為有大體老師，將往生後的身體捐出來供醫療教學，才能舉行模擬手術與解剖課程，也因為慈濟對無語良師的尊重，為台灣的醫學教育帶來改變，也改變人們面對生死的態度。

In continuation of our series on Silent Mentors, today we take you to meet Xie Wannong(謝萬農) who passed away due to complications from a stroke on the eve of Mother”s Day, 2007. Although it was hard for his mother to let him go, thanks to Wannong”s vow to become a Silent Mentor, she found the strength to redouble her efforts in Tzu Chi.

Reconstruction of quake-hit Miyagi Prefecture, in northeast Japan, began mid-September. The first step was to clear out the debris left behind by the tsunami, and recycle the garbage for future use. Let”s see how people in Minamisanriku Town began their reconstruction project.

As post-quake reconstruction continues apace in Japan, the 15,000 people who lost their lives are still deeply missed by their loved ones. In our next story, we introduce you to Eiko Sasaki, from Miyagi Prefecture”s Onagawa, who decided to keep the memory of her husband alive, by serving alongside Tzu Chi volunteers.

1965 Rin Kaiho”s big Go win
Professional Go player Lin Haifeng(林海峰), who is better known as ”Rin Kaiho” in Japan, came to fame at the tender age of 23, when beat the Japanese ”Go!” master Sakata Eio on this day in 1965. He was a student of the great Wu Qingyuan(吳清源) - or Go Seigen - who goes by the title of the ”unsinkable aircraft carrier” in Japanese Go! circles.
2001 Nali floods Da Ai TV
On the evening of this day in 2001, Da Ai TV staff started a rescue mission to save over 20,000 video cassette tapes submerged in water in the flooded basement of the television station. Tzu Chi volunteers also joined the effort, to restore the footage and preserve the valuable archive.
2008 Marrow donor registry study
Taking 85 distinct DNA sequences - called ”haplotypes” - collected from Taiwanese donors, scientists at Tzu Chi”s Stem Cell Center predicted over 400 haplotypes. The information helped patients searching for stem cell donors in Tzu Chi”s registry, improved the success rate of bone marrow transplants, and even contributed to anthropology research.
1965年 圍棋高手林海峰 勇奪日本名人
圍棋高手林海峰，年僅23歲的林海峰，在1965年這天擊敗日本棋王，他師承台灣圍棋大國手吳清源，被日本棋壇譽為永不沉沒的航空母艦。
2001年 納莉水淹大愛台 志工接力救影帶
2001年，從這天晚上開始，大愛電視台同仁涉水進入地下片庫，搶救被水淹過的兩萬多支錄影帶，慈濟志工也全力動員清洗，修復影帶、守護慧命。
2008年 花蓮慈院新創舉 半倍型基因資料庫
從八十五種台灣人的半倍型基因資料庫中，推算出四百多種可辨識的半倍型基因，有助於幹細胞的比對，增加骨髓移植成功率，甚至有助於人類學的研究。
8.赤腳善人 84-year-old philanthropist, Liang Jinchi
84-year-old Liang Jinchi(梁金池) owns a rice mill in Fuxing(福興) Township, in Taiwan”s Changhua County. Passionate about his home town, Liang not only donated his house as a community activity center, but also makes yearly contributions to the community fund. The generous man shares his wealth with others, enriching his neighborhood with the spirit of giving.
今年84歲住在彰化縣福興鄉的梁金池，是一家米廠老板，他捐出房子做為社區活動中心，甚至每年捐款當做社區基金，樂善好施的他認為，希望把熱心公益的精神傳出去。
9.東莞敬老 Bringing love to local senior residents
Tzu Chi volunteers in Dongguan of Guangdong Province, China, recently paid a visit to a local nursing home. Volunteers designed some simple activities to get the elderly people to do some exercise, and also gave them massages and manicures.
中國廣東省東莞慈濟志工，最近到當地的敬老院關懷老人家，為了讓爺爺奶奶可以活動筋骨，因此設計了簡單的活動，並幫老人家按摩及修剪指甲。

菲律賓慈濟分會所舉辦的第138次，牙科往診腳步來到了黎剎省，聖馬刁鎮的東方小學，醫護人員為孩童服務看診，也教導他們如何照顧自己的牙齒。

Helping those in need, in Thailand, TIMA members and volunteers recently took 16 seniors-- who couldn”t afford surgery-- to a local hospital to receive free cataract treatment.
幫助需要的人，泰國慈濟人醫會及志工，帶著十六位沒錢無法就醫的老人家，到當地的醫院進行白內障手術。
3.醫三解剖啟用12 Silent Mentors begin anatomy class
Tuesday afternoon, Tzu Chi University held a ceremony to honor the 12 Silent Mentors who will soon be instructing third year medical students in human anatomy. Their contribution is deeply appreciated by the students, who were present at the ceremony.
星期二下午，慈濟大學舉行莊嚴的大體老師啟用典禮，這次有12位大體老師捨身醫學教育，醫學系三年級的學生，在他們的身上要來進行解剖課程，學生都將用感恩的心情來回報，參與啟用典禮。

Next, we introduce you to the first doctor who donated her body to Tzu Chi for medical research- Dr. Qiu Zhaorong(丘昭蓉), who died from liver cancer. While she was alive, she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to serving the needy along Taiwan”s secluded east coast.
繼續為您介紹第一位捐出大體，貢獻於醫療研習的醫師－丘昭蓉醫師，她因為肝癌而往生，她一生奉獻在東台灣偏遠地區服務。
5.解剖十五(一)True spirit of selflessness
The notion of Silent Mentors first became a reality when Master Cheng Yen called for a body donation program that prioritized the peace of mind of both the donors and their family members. The tradition of honoring Silent Mentors, pioneered by Tzu Chi, not only helps students embrace cadavers as teachers, but also inspires them to treat the patient as well as the disease.
慈濟大體捐贈，證嚴上人要求大體捐贈要做到讓生者心安、亡者靈安，無語良師的概念是慈濟首創，讓解剖臺上的大體，不再只是沒有情感聯接的實驗教具，能影響大醫王視病猶親。
6.愛在菲揚(2)玫瑰復健路程Physiotherapy for separated twins
It has been year since the formerly conjoined Molit twins, from the Philippines, were successfully separated at Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital, in Taiwan. Back in their hometown near Cebu, the two have been going to physiotherapy to correct the curvature in their spines. It is not easy for the poor family to afford the treatment, but there are plenty of kindhearted people to look after them.
一年前，玫瑰小姐妹在台灣花蓮慈院成功完成分割手術，也回到他們的故鄉－宿務，持續進行復健計畫，一周三天矯正側彎的脊椎，要到醫院就診的費用高，對貧窮的他們來說，加上來回2個小時的車程，真的相當困難，還好，宿務慈濟人發揮愛心照顧他們。

Signed by more than 20 nations, including the United States, on this day in 1987, the Montreal Protocol outlined measures to stop depletion of the ozone layer. In 1995, the UN made September 16 the international day for the preservation of the ozone layer. Today, more than 190 countries have joined the protocol.
2001 Typhoon Nali flood relief
Mid-strength typhoon Nali made land on Taiwan”s northeast coast on the evening of this day, in 2001. The heavy rain it carried flooded Qidu七堵, Nuannuan暖暖, Ruifang and other areas. Tzu Chi volunteers split up into teams to assess the needs of local residents, bringing them hot meals, dry food, and toiletry bags.
2004 1st TCU media class graduates
At the Jing Si Abode in Hualien, Master Cheng Yen personally handed Tzu Chi”s humanitarian work uniforms to graduating students from the first class at the media department of Tzu Chi University. As they went on to take internships, the Master hoped the graduates would stick to their charity mission, and become seeds of truth, goodness and beauty.

In Mi-na-mi-san-ri-ku Town of Miyagi Prefecture, the land subsided by nearly 1 meter after the disaster. The local government has asked residents to rebuild on higher ground, out of harm”s way.
日本三一一大地震屆滿半年，仍有多數人住在避難所及組合屋，慈濟人多梯次前往發送見舞金，協助災民重建家園，位在日本宮城縣的南三陸町，地震後陸地內縮下陷將近一百公分，政府將執行復興計畫，放棄靠海平原重建，決定將往內陸高台遷居。

1.北加老兵義診Free clinic for veterans
We start today”s show in the United States, where Tzu Chi”s medical team in Northern California joined the South Bay Stand Down event, from September 10-11, organized by the Department of Veteran Affairs for homeless war heroes.
節目一開始來到美國，慈濟北加州醫療團隊參與由美國退役軍人醫院，在9月10日到11日主辦的退役軍人義診，讓無家可歸的退伍老兵能夠得到完善的醫療服務。

In Indonesia, a fire broke out in North Jakarta last week, displacing 170 families of 544 people. Tzu Chi volunteers quickly arrived with supplies to help the victims get by.
上周印尼北雅加達一場大火，讓170戶人家也就是 544人無家可歸，慈濟志工緊急前往勘災，送上物資，協助居民度過眼前難關。

4.大體洪朝祥Silent Mentor: Hong Chaoxiang
In our continuing series of obituaries on Silent Mentors, we bring you the story of Hong Chaoxiang(洪朝祥). At 84 years old, the senior, who still had a full head of black hair, passed away peacefully in his sleep. After raising a family of six, Hong Chaoxiang used his body to help train a future generation of doctors.

We”ll introduce you to another Silent Mentor tomorrow, but back to today, and a new series of reports on Rose Carmel and Rose Carmelette Molit - the former conjoined twins from Cebu in the Philippines, who were surgically separated at Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital last year. In the next few days, we”ll be finding out how the girls are getting on.

6.賴索托培訓First volunteer training seminar
Many Taiwanese Tzu Chi people living in Ladybrand, South Africa, run businesses in neighboring Lesotho, where they also recruit people to join Tzu Chi. After the recent winter distributions, Tzu Chi organized its first volunteer training workshop for local residents.
許多居住在南非雷地史密斯的台灣人，都會在賴索托做生意，也因此帶動了居住地當地人 加入慈濟，像是冬令發放一結束，慈濟人緊接著舉辦第一次本土志工培訓課 。
7.賴索托關懷Winter supplies for 15,024
Tzu Chi”s 14 distributions in Lesotho helped a total of 15,024 people. Left with 242 bags of rice, from the original supply of 4,000 bags, the volunteers decided to donate the surplus to needy families in five local communities.
慈濟在賴索托的十四場冬令發放，一共幫助了15024人，預計要發出的四千份白米，另外還多出242份，志工決定把這些愛心帶到當地五個社區，給需要照顧的家庭。

1254 Birth of Marco Polo
Marco Polo was 17 years old, when he arrived in China with his father. He was employed by Kubla Khan, and on his return to Venice, the story of his 20 years of travel China was written up into a book called ”The Travels of Marco Polo”, which was one of the most detailed record on Asia in Europe at the time.
1993 Opening of China schools
In 1991 central and eastern China was hit by atrocious flooding, that swept away communities and schools. Tzu Chi helped rebuild eight local schools in Xinghua City of Jiangsu Province. The schools which had classrooms, a laboratory, library, science building, sports field and other facilities. On this day in 1993, a joint opening ceremony was held at Dongbao(東鮑) Tzu Chi School, attended by 700 people, including the Xiinghua city mayor, local officials and Tzu Chi volunteers.
2003 Mock operating theater at TCU
Build for Tzu Chi University”s pioneering ”whole body simulated surgery teaching” course, Taiwan”s first ever ”simulated surgery operating theater” and ”memorial hall” opened on this day in 2003. Giving medical students a chance to hone their skills on donated bodies, the facility is a milestone in the development of health education in Taiwan.
2008 Lehman Bros bust
Three brothers who emigrated from Germany to the United States founded Lehman Brothers in 1850. After going through two world wars, and various economic and energy crises, the financial firm seemed to be unshakable. It was the fourth largest investment bank in the US, when it succumbed to the subprime mortgage crisis, and declared bankruptcy on this day in 2008.
2009 Back to school in 88 hit areas
After the Typhoon Morakot ravaged Taiwan on August 8, 2009, as school children started to go back to class, Tzu Chi volunteers in the Taitung area organized a ”safely back to school program”, visiting the disaster-hit townships of Dawu, Taimali, Jinfeng, Beinan, and Chenggong, as well as the Taitung city area. The volunteers helped pay tuition fees for 177 affected children from 30 schools.

2009慈濟志工膚慰台東學子安心上學，八八水患後，各級學校陸續開學，台東慈濟志工展開「安心就學方案」，三天時間走訪大武鄉、太麻里鄉、金鋒鄉、卑南鄉、成功鎮 還有台東市區等，從幼稚園至大專院校共三十所學校，為一百七十七位受災戶子女繳交學費。
9.德國中秋茶會1st tea party in Frankfurt
The team that went to the recent UN NGO conference in Bonn, Germany, stayed on to help the only Tzu Chi volunteer in Frankfurt hold the first ever tea party in the city. In light of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the volunteers prepared moon cakes for the participants.
慈濟九月初派遣一個團隊前往德國波昂，參加第64屆聯合國公共資訊部非政府組織年會，在法蘭克福唯一的慈濟志工，特地邀請這一群志工幫她籌辦了 在法蘭克福第一場慈濟茶會，也因為恰逢中秋佳節，志工特地準備了月餅與大家分享。

1.東松島發放Moving tales from Higashimatsushima
We start today”s show in Japan”s Miyagi prefecture, where the blue-and-white uniforms of Tzu Chi volunteers delivered the last batch of emergency cash donations into the hands of disaster victims, in the coastal city of Higashimatsushima, on Monday. As we”ve been reporting, volunteers have been busy, bowing at 90-degree angles, and handing consolation money to earthquake and tsunami survivors, for the last few days. On the last day, volunteers paid a special visit to the home of one stroke victim, whose 90-year-old mother died in the tsunami. The care-givers then personally took him to the distribution site. Those small acts of kindness have created a ripple effect around the local community.
在今天新聞的一開始，我們來到日本宮城縣，藍天白雲的慈濟志工於星期一 在東松島市，展開最後一批的見舞金發放，如我們之前所報導，志工們在發放時用恭敬心、九十度的彎腰鞠躬，過去幾天裡，親手為災民送上一份份的祝福，最後一天，志工們特別來到其中一位受災鄉親阿部幸二的家，他九十多歲的媽媽在災難中往生，志工們帶著他到會場，而這些小小的貼心舉動，讓當地居民深受感動。
2.女川町發放2,241 families helped in Onagawa
Staying in Japan”s Miyagi Prefecture, but moving to nearby Onagawa, Tzu Chi”s fifth disaster relief team handed out consolation money to 2,241 families in the city, in just three days. Among the 37 volunteers present was the former Taiwanese Minister of Transportation and Communication, Mr. Cai Dui, who happily put on a Tzu Chi uniform.
繼續留在日本的宮城縣，但來到附近的女川町，慈濟第五梯次賑災團，在三天內發放見舞金給2241戶人家，在37位慈濟志工當中，包括了前台灣交通部長蔡堆，他穿著自己的志工服熱心服務。
3.紐約911祈福Remembering 911
For our next ”ground of spiritual cultivation”, we take you to New York City, for another of our 911 tenth anniversary reports. On Sunday, September 11th, volunteers from the Tzu Chi”s New York Chapter attended a memorial service, hosted by the Salvation Army. And earlier on Wednesday, Tzu Chi was invited to attend an interfaith gathering at the Museum of Jewish Heritage.

4.泰水患熱食Tzu Chi helps flood victims
Thailand experienced torrential rainfall, beginning on August 22nd, which caused severe flooding in 28 provinces. On September 1st, Tzu Chi volunteers went to Bang Rakam District, in the province of Phitsanulok, of northern Thailand, where 16 villages were still submerged in water. The team decided to work with the local military, to deliver lunchboxes, twice a day, to the local residents.
泰國從八月二十二號開始，連日豪大雨造成河水暴漲，全國二十八個府都遭大水侵襲，慈濟志工在九月一號，來到大水稍退的彭世洛府挽拉甘縣勘災，發現挽拉甘鎮有十六個村受災嚴重，志工決定和軍方聯手送便當，準備一天兩餐送給居民。

1321 Dante dies
Italian poet Dante, was born in Florence to an aristocratic family, but caught up in the political conflicts at the time, was forced into exile. Dante drew on these experiences, together with stories from mythology, history and theology, to create his epic Divine Comedy. Together with Shakespeare and Goethe, Dante is one of the three giants of western literature.
1960 OPEC formed
The oil producing countries of Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela formed OPEC on this day in 1960 in Baghdad, to stabilize petroleum prices and control output. Currently, OPEC has 12 member states, controlling two-thirds of global crude oil reserves.
1997 Toronto Academy
After volunteers residing in Canada held a fundraising dinner to collect money for a Tzu Chi Academy, the school in Toronto officially opened on this day in 1997. Tzu Chi volunteers arranged parent-and-child classes, gave classes on ethics and filial piety, and also taught children how to knit scarves to donate to homeless people.

In another flash-back to the past, we catch up on the conjoined twins, Lea and Rachel Awel, from the Philippines, who were separated at Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital in 2003. Now nine years old, the girls are happy and healthy; and their whole family is either volunteering or working for Tzu Chi.
再度回憶過往，我們來到菲律賓，看看慈恩與慈愛這兩位原本是連體雙胞胎，但於2003年在花蓮慈濟醫院成功的接受分離手術，如今已經九歲了，小女孩是健康又可愛，一家人開心的在慈濟分會做志工與職工。
7.術式課程圓滿Simulated surgery for TIMA members
The four-day simulated surgery course, attached to the annual TIMA conference in Hualien, Taiwan, came to an end on Monday. The senior doctors and interns from home and abroad, said the experience was both inspirational, and moving.
為期四天的國際人醫年會大體模擬手術，在9月12日星期一圓滿結束，對於國內外的資深與住院醫師而言，這個難得的機會，讓他們收穫很多。
8.何大一分享Bringing AIDS under control
At the annual TIMA conference, the famed AIDS researcher Dr. David Ho from the United States, was invited to share his insights, on battling the HIV virus, with participants from 17 countries. Tzu Chi volunteer Pan Mingshui(潘明水) from South Africa also talked about the HIV-AIDS support program, that he started, with the help of local women from the Zulu community.
在台灣花蓮舉辦的慈濟國際人醫年會，國際知名的美國愛滋專家何大一，獲邀參與與來自17個國家的醫護人員，分享對抗愛滋病的經驗，來自南非的慈濟志工潘明水，也分享和祖魯族婦女一起長期照顧愛滋病病患的故事。

1.東松島發放Moving tales from Higashimatsushima
We start today”s show in Japan”s Miyagi prefecture, where the blue-and-white uniforms of Tzu Chi volunteers delivered the last batch of emergency cash donations into the hands of disaster victims, in the coastal city of Higashimatsushima, on Monday. As we”ve been reporting, volunteers have been busy, bowing at 90-degree angles, and handing consolation money to earthquake and tsunami survivors, for the last few days. On the last day, volunteers paid a special visit to the home of one stroke victim, whose 90-year-old mother died in the tsunami. The care-givers then personally took him to the distribution site. Those small acts of kindness have created a ripple effect around the local community.
在今天新聞的一開始，我們來到日本宮城縣，藍天白雲的慈濟志工於星期一 在東松島市，展開最後一批的見舞金發放，如我們之前所報導，志工們在發放時用恭敬心、九十度的彎腰鞠躬，過去幾天裡，親手為災民送上一份份的祝福，最後一天，志工們特別來到其中一位受災鄉親阿部幸二的家，他九十多歲的媽媽在災難中往生，志工們帶著他到會場，而這些小小的貼心舉動，讓當地居民深受感動。
2.女川町發放2,241 families helped in Onagawa
Staying in Japan”s Miyagi Prefecture, but moving to nearby Onagawa, Tzu Chi”s fifth disaster relief team handed out consolation money to 2,241 families in the city, in just three days. Among the 37 volunteers present was the former Taiwanese Minister of Transportation and Communication, Mr. Cai Dui, who happily put on a Tzu Chi uniform.
繼續留在日本的宮城縣，但來到附近的女川町，慈濟第五梯次賑災團，在三天內發放見舞金給2241戶人家，在37位慈濟志工當中，包括了前台灣交通部長蔡堆，他穿著自己的志工服熱心服務。
3.紐約911祈福Remembering 911
For our next ”ground of spiritual cultivation”, we take you to New York City, for another of our 911 tenth anniversary reports. On Sunday, September 11th, volunteers from the Tzu Chi”s New York Chapter attended a memorial service, hosted by the Salvation Army. And earlier on Wednesday, Tzu Chi was invited to attend an interfaith gathering at the Museum of Jewish Heritage.

4.泰水患熱食Tzu Chi helps flood victims
Thailand experienced torrential rainfall, beginning on August 22nd, which caused severe flooding in 28 provinces. On September 1st, Tzu Chi volunteers went to Bang Rakam District, in the province of Phitsanulok, of northern Thailand, where 16 villages were still submerged in water. The team decided to work with the local military, to deliver lunchboxes, twice a day, to the local residents.
泰國從八月二十二號開始，連日豪大雨造成河水暴漲，全國二十八個府都遭大水侵襲，慈濟志工在九月一號，來到大水稍退的彭世洛府挽拉甘縣勘災，發現挽拉甘鎮有十六個村受災嚴重，志工決定和軍方聯手送便當，準備一天兩餐送給居民。

1321 Dante dies
Italian poet Dante, was born in Florence to an aristocratic family, but caught up in the political conflicts at the time, was forced into exile. Dante drew on these experiences, together with stories from mythology, history and theology, to create his epic Divine Comedy. Together with Shakespeare and Goethe, Dante is one of the three giants of western literature.
1960 OPEC formed
The oil producing countries of Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela formed OPEC on this day in 1960 in Baghdad, to stabilize petroleum prices and control output. Currently, OPEC has 12 member states, controlling two-thirds of global crude oil reserves.
1997 Toronto Academy
After volunteers residing in Canada held a fundraising dinner to collect money for a Tzu Chi Academy, the school in Toronto officially opened on this day in 1997. Tzu Chi volunteers arranged parent-and-child classes, gave classes on ethics and filial piety, and also taught children how to knit scarves to donate to homeless people.
