On February 22nd last year, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck Christchurch, New Zealand, causing more than 100 deaths. A year after the quake, Tzu Chi volunteers called on local schools, to conduct assessments, in hopes of providing them with further aid.

As well as colorful containers, volunteers are helping brighten up the lives of Christchurch residents. When Tzu Chi first brought aid to the quake-hit city, the respect the volunteers showed people touched many, and inspired some to join. Recently the first group of Tzu Chi volunteers in Christchurch held a study group.

Tzu Chi volunteers in Taipei recently organized a breifing for exchange students from Central America. As many of Taiwan”s diplomatic allies are in the region, the volunteers hoped to strengthen civic ties across the Pacific.

The true value of life is in accomplishing meaningful deeds.

US Tzu Chi volunteers recently gathered in New Jersey, to pack second-hand books collected nationwide, ready to be shipped to South Africa and directly distributed to needy children.

Next, we follow some 58 young Jing Si Books and Cafe volunteers on their trip to Tzu Chi”s spiritual homeland in Hualien. The children toured around the Abode, and put on a section of the Water Repentance sutra for Master Cheng Yen.

On Compassion

On the good path, you can achieve joy, a bodhi mind, and constant happiness. To have a loving heart you must give gladly, because only a clear mind will be obstacle free.
Since you are already committed to the bodhisattva path, you should always be happy, and not let yourself be blocked along the way by people, events or things.

Tzu Chi”s tea plantation in Taiwan”s Miaoli County is strictly organic. Farmers use natural methods, together with some help from modern science, to keep a balance between man and nature. Let”s find out how growers at the Jing Si plantation replenish the soil, and keep pests away, without reverting to chemicals.

In Taiwan the metal tin was commonly used for ceremonial objects in temples. However, the tin business began to decline 40 years ago, and now there is only one workshop left in the country. Situated in Lugang Township, it is run by Master Tin Sculptor, Chen Wanneng陳萬能, who recently received the title ”National Treasure”.

Master tin sculptor Chen Wangneng”s children are following in their father”s footsteps. Three of the Master”s four sons decided to take up the family business. Each has added his own individual touch into the art of tin making.

In Shenzhen, China, for the first time Tzu Chi volunteers went into local schools to teach the children about protecting the environment. We”ll leave you with these images. Thank you for watching Da Ai Headlines. Goodbye.
