As Chinese New Year draws near, Tzu Chi quickened its winter relief distributions in China; thankfully, many local residents all willingly lend a helping hand. In Taiwan, Tzu Chi is holding winter relief distributions to help the poor as well, which are always followed by a vegetarian New Year”s banquet. And, we learn more about the chefs, who make traditional outdoor banquets in Taiwan possible, cooking for hundreds of people all at the same time.

中國新年將近，慈濟在中國的冬令發放加快腳步，因為，許多當地居民都相當樂意付出；在台灣，慈濟也為貧困居民舉辦冬令發放，並且舉辦素食饗宴；接著，今天帶大家看看台灣傳統戶外辦桌的主廚文化，辦桌師傅能夠同時為幾百人，煮出美味的佳餚。

1.南馬庄發放Ample supplies for everyone



Monday, January 23rd is Chinese New Year. To help the poor in China get ready for the holiday, Tzu Chi has been carrying out it annual winter relief distributions around the country. Recently, volunteers arrived in Nanmazhuang - the poorest township of Laiyuan County, in Hebei Province. Nearly every resident here lives in poverty, and is in need of assistance. Here the temperature has already dipped way belowe freezing point. Not only did volunteers bring winter supplies, but medical volunteers also tagged along to deliver free quality medical care.



1月23日是中國的新年，為了幫助中國貧困的人度過佳節，慈濟在全中國舉辦一年一度的冬令發放，冬令發放，腳步來到河北省淶源縣，最貧困的鄉鎮－南馬庄，幾乎所有的居民都需要被幫助，這裡的氣溫降到零度以下，而志工不僅帶來物資，也帶來醫療志工幫鄉親看病。







2.雲南發放二日Residents show up promptly



We have more on Tzu Chi”s winter relief distribution in China. In Yunan”s Kunming, the distribution lasted three days. One woman who received an extra bag of rice quickly returned it to the volunteers, knowing there were others in need. The kindness of local residents also helped make the distribution a success.



我們還有相關中國發放的報導，慈濟在雲南昆明的冬令發放，為期三天，其中一名婦人因為多拿到了一包米，趕快再帶回來還給志工，因為她知道還有人需要幫忙，當地人的善念也幫助這場活動，圓滿結束。







3.福鼎疊石發放Facing harsh conditions



Staying in China, we go east to the township of Dieshi（疊石） near Fujian Province”s Fuding City. Here the cold weather has brought snow and freezing temperatures. As part of their winter distribution series, volunteers from Fuding did not forget the residents of this mountainous area, helping them find warmth in the depths of the cold winter.



也是中國的報導，在福建福鼎的疊石鄉，因為位於高山，所以也下雪了，慈濟冬令發放，志工沒有忘記這一群這在高山上的鄉親，踏著白雪，雪中送炭。







4.新竹發放圍爐Bringing love in time for the New Year



As we mentioned earlier, Chinese New Year is right around the corner, and to celebrate, volunteers from the Tzu Chi Liason Office in Hsinchu held a winter distribution for some 100 needy families. At the distribution venue, volunteers also offered free hair cuts, medical check-ups and hand-written spring couplets for the New Year. Also set up was a charity bazaar to support Tzu Chi”s environmental mission and a DIY class on vegetarian cooking in hopes that aid recipients not only take home much needed aid, but also practical, planet-friendly ideas that they can introduce into their daily lives.



如我們剛才所提的，農曆年就要到了，為此慈濟新竹聯絡處，為100多戶照顧戶舉行冬令發放，並且提前圍爐，活動現場上除了提供義剪、義診、免費寫春聯的服務外，還有環保惜福區的義賣，和素食DIY的教學，希望照顧戶將愛護地球的觀念，落實在日常生活中。







5.三重發放圍爐A festive banquet at Sanchong





A part of the Chinese New Year celebration is to be reunited together with family members and have hot pot together. To keep the winter chill away in Taiwan”s New Taipei City, volunteers and recipients gather at the Sanchong三重 Chapter for their annual reunion. This year, the caregivers not only handed out relief items and held a free clinic, but also put on a series of performances for the audience to enjoy.



農曆新年是大家團聚圍爐的日子，為了讓新北市帶來些許的溫暖，慈濟志工在三重園區，和照顧戶們齊聚一堂，這一年一度的聚會，志工不只發放物資 提供義診服務，更準備了一連串的節目，給前來參與的人。







6.佳民總體刷油漆Creating a better community



It is also customary to front a new look to welcome a New Year. In Hualien County”s Jiamin 佳民Village, Tzu Chi is helping residents create a beautiful and clean environment in their community by giving out free paint and brushes. The tools will allow villagers to repaint their homes, and get ready for the coming Chinese New Year.



也是為了讓新年有新樣貌，在花蓮佳民村，慈濟基金會帶動總體營造，提供油漆及刷子刷油漆，讓家裡煥然一新，準備迎接新年的來臨。







7.360外燴總鋪師(一)Many mouths to feed



The best way to experience great Taiwanese food is at a traditional outdoor banquet, with tables and chairs set up in the street, eating with friends and relatives under a canvas canopy. Weddings and year-end banquets in Taiwan for hundreds of people used to be held this way. In today”s episode of our series on odd jobs in the country, we meet some of the head chefs who cook these street banquets. We start by following master chef Li Chun, on a typical day of work.



要體驗台灣的美食，其實就是傳統所謂的辦桌，通常會請總鋪師，再找塊空地、搭起棚子、擺上桌椅碗筷，就能熱熱鬧鬧宴請客人，不論尾牙或婚宴喜慶，很多人都是以辦桌的形式來進行，就可以張羅出上百人的佳餚，今天360行各行各業的介紹中，帶大家看看辦桌的總舖師，首先來看李春總舖師的一天。







8.360外燴總鋪師(二)History of outdoor banquets



Outdoor banquets have been a part of life in Taiwan for over a century. In our next story, we introduce you to two more head chefs - Mr. Wang Yongyi汪義勇 from Tainan, and Mr. Lin Mingcan林明燦 from Taipei. Both men learned the tricks of the trade from their fathers, and both have between 30-40 years of experience. Although many customers go to five-star hotels these days to host their banquets, the chefs are working hard to keep the tradition of outdoor events alive.



台灣的辦桌文化已經有百年歷史，今天我們要為大家介紹南北兩位總舖師，一個是台南的辦桌師傅汪義勇，另一位是在台北的林明燦，兩個人都從小就跟著父親學辦桌，已經有三四十年以上的辦桌經驗，雖然現在許多人都到大餐廳宴客，辦桌數量銳減，但他們還是堅持一代又一代，延續著這傳統的味道。

An apartment complex in Sanchong District, of Taiwan”s New Taipei City, caught fire over the weekend. Luckily, no one was hurt.
