A chance at an education
Playing with fire and iron

Coming up in the show today, in China, Tzu Chi”s winter aid distributions bring warmth to the hearts of many, with much needed supplies and spiritual support.
Underprivileged students in Yangon, Myanmar are able to get a chance at education through Tzu Chi”s scholarship program.
And, in our brand new daily feature on Taiwan”s local and traditional industries and small businesses, we go to Puli, to meet several blacksmiths who are trying to keep their trade alive.

503 families aided in Licheng

We start the show in China, where Tzu Chi continues its winter relief distributions to people in need. In Fujian”s Quanzhou City, some 4,300 families from Licheng, Fengze, and Luojiang received Tzu Chi”s aid packages. We now take you to the distribution for 503 families at Licheng.

Awarding more scholarships

Moving to Myanmar, Tzu Chi volunteers recently expanded their student aid program to include children from Thaketa District, located in the south of Yangon. More than half of the residents from the poor district are low-income earners and are finding it hard to pay for their children”s school fees. After a round of home visitations to 32 students in need, volunteers decided to award them with scholarships for the upcoming school term.

A hopeful future was something Malaysian gangster Zhang Fufa didn”t care for as he lived a lifestyle of organized crime, drinking and fighting. In 2007, his wife persuaded him to sign up for Tzu Chi volunteer training. Although he was unwilling at first, Zhang took the plunge, and much to his own surprise, the course completely changed him. By the following year, he was a commited vegetarian, who had made a new start in life.

The fragrant taste of tea and culture

The Tzu Chi continuing education center program in Tainan, Taiwan. recently held an exhibition displaying the works of members of the advanced class of Tzu Chi”s Jing Si Tea Ceremony group.
