First up, to help flood victims in Rizal Province of the Philippines, Tzu Chi held work-relief programs to rebuild the local community. Tzu Chi volunteers also went to the severely hit Ka-sig-la-han Village to distribute 1,500 aid packs. To show his gratitude for Tzu Chi”s help, the mayor of Rodriguez Municipality joined the relief work, and one flood victim made flower wreaths for Tzu Chi volunteers.

Staying in the Philippines, Tzu Chi volunteers are continuing their efforts to care for the flood victims. At a local shelter, volunteers bring emergency cash to a family whose house collapsed. In the Philippines, Tzu Chi usually distributes aid supplies, and this is the first time volunteers are handing out emergency cash. Upon receiving the cash, many flood victims were moved to tears.

Myanmar is another country that suffered severe flooding from torrential rainfall, but at the end of July. Today, though nearly 3 weeks have passed, many areas around the Bago Region are still submerged under water. Prior to holding a relief distribution, Tzu Chi volunteers carried out disaster surveys on August 14th, to gain a deeper understanding of the situation, and also handed out distribution coupons on August 18th, to those in need. Not only are many residents still seeking shelter in local temples, but the poor conditions also mean that many of the elderly people and children are now facing the threat of infectious disease.

In order to stay on the right path of doing good, we must be filial to our parents.

Indigenous tribes in Taiwan”s mountain areas are often faced with the fall in population, as the younger generation relocates to cities in search of a better life. However, the residents of Hualien”s Dalanbu Tribe(達蘭埠), came together 8 years ago to plant organic daylilies, a project that has attracted young people to return home to help. Today, the Dalanbu Tribe is proud to say they have even obtained international organic certification for their daylilies. Let”s take a look.

On Respect:

When interviewing, reporters should be disciplined to only report the truth and respect the privacy of others.

By respecting others, we recognize the right of all human beings, instead of focusing on our own benefits.

In our series of feature reports on ”Love Is Around”, today, we learn the story of Zhao Dong (趙鶇), a native of China”s Guizhou(貴州) Province, who married a Taiwanese. Zhao Dong”s husband passed away due to illness, and last October, she was involved in a car accident that left her paralyzed on her left side. To care for Zhong Dong (趙鶇), her parents rushed over from Guizhou (貴州) to Taiwan. For the next six month, Zhao”s parents helped her with rehabilitation. Before their visa expired and had to return home, the parents thanked Tzu Chi who reached out a helping hand in times of need.

Many volunteers initially come to Tzu Chi with more traditional ideas of how to pursue a prosperous and healthy life. This often includes offerings to gods in temples in the form of incense, joss paper, and sacrifices. Tzu Chi volunteer Qiu Yiquan(邱宜權) was one of the many, who viewed his success in life as the result of keeping the gods happy with such actions. However, after attending a Tzu Chi retreat in Taiwan and subscribing to Da Ai TV, he began to see how this belief system only brought more desires and problems. Now Qiu has given up worshipping the gods with external objects, and instead uses his heart and time to help others. Not only has his work and home life not suffered in the slightest, but he has also found life to be more meaningful as well. Let”s hear his story.

In Malaysia, the Tamil Bu-kit Da-rah Primary School located in Selangor”s Sun-gai Bu-loh, has been the recipient of Tzu Chi scholarship and charity aid since 2008. This year, subsidies were once again given to the school under the Tzu Chi School Campus Charity Program, to help students with meals, transportation and tutoring. The result has been a marked improvement in the attendance rate and grades of the students, bringing teachers hope that students will be able to continue on with their schooling in the future, and use education as a way out of poverty. Here”s more.
