Thailand”s worst flood in 50 years has paralyzed the country for several months now, and the waters are now threatening Bangkok”s city center. Plans have been made to divert water away from the capital and speed up drainage. As one Da Ai reporter finds out, the waters flood in at a surprisingly speed, and while warnings have long been issued by the government, many locals still chose to flee their homes just before the flood hit their doorsteps.

Establishing a soup kitchen

To help ease the worries of Thai flood victims taking shelter in a government”s administrative center in Bangkok, Tzu Chi volunteers lead them in group activities, and are helping them find spiritual peace through studying Jing Si Aphorisms. In addition, volunteers have also set up a soup kitchen to feed flood victims.

To address the situation, Tzu Chi plans to hold a two day aid distribution on the 12th and 13th of this month, in the cities of Morcavia and Choluteca, to help 2,000 of the hardest hit households. At present US Tzu Chi volunteers are in Morcavia looking for a suitable distribution site.
