Coming up in the show today, as Lantern Festival approaches in Taiwan, we have some tips on how to properly dispose of those little batteries, that would otherwise cause an environmental hazard.

We look back at Chinese New Year celebrations in Suzhou, China, where the new Tzu Chi chapter grounds were a hive of activity.

And in our series on Taiwan”s fading trades, we seek out one of the few remaining traditional tatami makers, left on the island.

1.菲春晚環保
But we start today”s show in the Philippines, where Manila celebrated Chinese New Year, with a huge party in the capital city”s Luneta Park, which is also called Rizal Park. The annual event, which is a tradition at the park, reaches a climax with a grand countdown to midnight on Chinese New Year”s Eve, and then a huge firework display, which lasts around 15 minutes. This year, the festival was attended by nearly 100,000 people. The large crowd also meant a large amount of trash. So, to help raise environmental awareness, and keep the park clean, nearly 400 Tzu Chi, and local volunteers, came to serve at the party.

但今天的節目一開始，先來到菲律賓馬尼拉市政府在倫禮沓公園，也稱為黎剎公園慶祝龍年到來，這場一年一度在此舉辦的活動，在零晨倒數時達到顛峰，並以長達15分鐘的煙火歡迎龍年，今年的活動湧進近十萬人，可想而知，垃圾量同樣很驚人，為了提升環保意識，因此四百位華人志工和本地志工，一起來到這裡服務。

2.澎湖環保
The Lunar New Year holiday, which ended at the start of this week, was no break for volunteers at Tzu Chi”s environmental stations across Taiwan, as they continued to sort through items that could be recycled, to clean up the planet, make money for charity, and cleanse their own hearts, at the same time. At the environmental station in Beichen, on the offshore island of Penghu, volunteers, and especially the more elderly helpers, somehow managed to juggle their recycling duties, with their household chores, so they could both look after their homes, and also volunteer for Tzu Chi.

新春假期已經在這星期結束，不過全台灣的環保志工，片刻不懈怠，讓地球乾淨也做慈善，回收同時做心靈環保，在澎湖北辰環保教育站，尤其是銀髮族志工 ，忙完家業顧志業，發揮最大的良能。

3.提燈電池影響
We stay on the topic of recycling around Chinese New Year, but look forward to Lantern Festival, which is on the 15th day of the lunar year. The date falls on February 6th this time. The festival is a time for people to parade the streets carrying little lanterns. However, because these handheld devices operate on batteries, and hundreds of thousands of disposable lanterns are bought or given away every year, pollution is a serious issue. Battery consumption in Taiwan is 7,000 tons a year, but only half get recycled. Many people are unaware that batteries can, and indeed, should be recycled. Perhaps you didn”t know that any shop, that sells batteries, is legally required to install a battery recycling bin. Let”s find out more.

元宵節是農曆元月十五，也就是今年的2月6日，提個小燈籠走在街上，不過，燈籠需要電池，每年有數以萬計個燈籠大放送，造成事後的汙染問題，台灣國內電池消耗量大約七千公噸，回收的數量卻只有一半，原來許多民眾都不知道，電池是可以、也是必須要回收的，再者，只要有販售電池的店面，都必須設置回收筒，才是合法的，一起來看看。

4.蘇州新春
In Suzhou, China, the new Tzu Chi chapter grounds were a hive of activity during the Lunar New Year period, as volunteers and community residents celebrated the Year of the Dragon with vegetarian food, and eco-friendly entertainment. Tzu Chi people also went from neighborhood to neighborhood, to deliver seasonal greetings to residents, and invite them to join the fun at the chapter grounds.

過年期間，即將啟用的蘇州新園區，熱鬧滾滾，志工與社區民眾一起慶祝龍年，舉辦了一系列的新春活動，志工更是到附近的社區和民眾拜年，邀請大家來園區走一趟。

5.雪隆幼兒新春
From Suzhou to Kuala Lumpur, where the Da Ai Educare Center, in Malaysia”s capital city, ushered in the Year of the Dragon by teaching the young children about good manners, and environmental awareness.

從中國蘇州來到馬來西亞的首都吉隆坡，大愛兒童教育中心教導小朋友，在新的一年，要做一個健康有禮、環保救地球的乖寶寶。

6.檳城書軒講座
As children grow up, and begin to spread their wings, and leave the nest, parents often have difficulty letting go. If you are a protective parent, the next story could be for you. At the Jing Si Books and Cafe store, in Penang, Malaysia, Chen Yikai, gave a public speech about his experience of competing in the 2011 Sahara Race. He spent seven days and six nights jogging through the desert. Meanwhile, his mother also spoke about how she learned to let go, and be supportive of her adventure-loving son.

當小孩子長大後，他們會開始想要追尋自己的夢想，但往往父母親不懂得如何放手，並鼓勵孩子勇往直前，或許接下來這則報導能有所幫助，馬來西亞檳城靜思書軒，參與2011撒哈拉沙漠馬拉松賽，在沙漠中過了七天六夜的陳奕愷，分享自己的經驗與心得，而他的母親則是分享自己如何放手，並做孩子的後盾。

7.馬腎友李源興
Go to the Tzu Chi Dialysis Center in Butterworth Malaysia, and on most days you will see dialysis patient, Li Yuanxing. Formally a construction foreman, Li never watched his diet, until he developed diabetes, and other complications. His wife left him, taking their only child. And at one point, Li considered suicide. But with the help of Tzu Chi volunteers, he started a vegetarian diet, began recycling, and, in the space of one year, gained a whole new outlook on life. Now he wants to use his experience to inspire others, facing similar problems.

馬來西亞北海慈濟洗腎中心，平常都可以看到一名腎友李源興，原本是工地的工頭，他沒有忌口，於是得到糖尿病與其他併發症，他的妻子也因此選擇帶著他們唯一的孩子離開，雙重打擊，讓他一度想不開，想要自我了結，但由於慈濟人的幫忙，李源興開始吃素也做環保，一年後有了完全不同的人生觀，現在他要用自己的故事，啟發其他同病相憐的人。

《 衲履足跡 》On Unity and Harmony 談合和
A cultivation ground needs people, and people must have the will to cultivate to bear fruit. If the people are not in harmony, it will turn into a debating ground, where bad karma grows.

Everyone needs to stride out firmly in the footsteps of history, and stop listening to gossip. Only when your mind is free of clutter can you be tolerant.

道場要有人，人要有道心，則能造福；倘若人不和，就成了是非場，反而造業。大家要踏穩歷史的足跡，聽聞任何流言都不要放在心上，心無罣礙才能包容。

8.360手工榻榻米一
Many older people in Taiwan still feel some nostalgia, for the era of Japanese colonial rule, and things like tatami mats - which are traditionally made of rice straw, and covered with matted rush. As well as making an attractive floor, tatamis are soft enough to sleep on at night, and keep you cool in summer, and warm in winter. Handmade tatami shops used to be as common as convenience stores in Taiwan, but these days, they are few and far between. We went to one of the surviving tatami workshops, to find out more.

許多人對於日治時代的規矩定，有著懷舊的感覺，就像榻榻米，淡淡的藺草香，有蓆面覆蓋住，鋪在地板上 ，榻榻米很軟，在晚上很好入睡，夏涼冬暖，手工榻榻米店過去有很多，就如同便利商店一樣普及，不過，如今越來越少，我們一起到榻榻米店去看看。

9.360手工榻榻米二
You can still catch a whiff, of the distinctive straw smell, of handmade tatami mats, in some places in Taiwan. In a moment, we”ll take you to a Go workshop. Go is a Japanese board game that is still popular in Taiwan. The founder of the workshop, says, tatami mats help his students get into the right frame of mind, for the strategy game. But first, we go to a Japanese-style home, complete with tatami floors, belonging to an elderly Taiwanese woman, who was educated in the colonial era.

還要帶大家再來回味一下，淡淡的草香，台灣的手工榻榻米，一會兒，帶大家到圍棋道館，圍棋在台灣受到大家的喜愛，道館負責人說榻榻米讓比賽的學生 心靈沉澱，不過，首先我們帶大家到一間日式的房子，地板鋪滿榻榻米，是一位曾經在日治時期被統治過的老人家所開設的道館。
