Coming up in today”s show, residents of Taiwan”s Pingtung County and Lanyu Island, are still recovering from the recent flooding. Taipei Tzu Chi volunteers are getting ready for a series of performances at the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, to promote the 7th lunar month. And, we meet 51-year-old Steven Jones from the United States, who is teaching tea terminologies to students in Taiwan and China.

1. 車城現況



We start today”s show on the news of the pasted Typhoon Tembin that brushed by Taiwan earlier this week. Though the storm left less damage than expected, Pingtung”s Checheng Township is still suffering from the effects of the widespread flooding. As water have gradually receded, most of the residents have started cleaning up their homes. Soldiers were also mobilized to assist with the clean up, and help sterilize the local community against diseases.



節目一開始，來看這周天秤颱風襲擊台灣的報導，雖然天秤颱風輕掠過台灣，並未造成預期中的災害，但南台灣屏東車城鄉仍然遭受嚴重的水患影響，大水逐漸退去之際，大部分的居民已經清理家園，還有國軍弟兄幫忙清掃，大規模消毒，預防疾病滋生。





2. 蘭嶼重創待援



The return of Typhoon Tembin packed level 17 winds and waves, that brought severe destruction to many parts of Lanyu(蘭嶼) Island. After the storm passed, the transportation between the island and Taiwan was cut off, including Lanyu Airport and Kaiyuan Harbor (開元港). It is estimated that the airport will be back in operations today. To help local residents, the government of Taitung County (台東縣) has sent out drinking water, rice and baby supplies.



天秤颱風讓蘭嶼掀起了十七級的強陣風，多處受災，颱風過後，蘭嶼聯外的交通完全阻斷，包括蘭嶼機場和開元港，估計要今日才能恢復，為了幫助當地居民，台東縣政府送出飲用水、白米和嬰兒用品。

3. 吉祥月公演理念



To celebrate the 7th lunar month, Tzu Chi volunteers organized a series of performances, which will be held from August 30 to September 4, in front of the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall. The performances include Taiwanese opera, sign language performances, and exhibitions, all of which will be promoting filial piety and gratitude. Through the event, volunteers hope to turn superstition into mindfulness. Next, we join these volunteers at their final rehearsals for the performance.



為了提倡農曆七月為吉祥月，慈濟志工從8月30日起到9月4日，在中正紀念堂前廣場舉辦一連串的表演活動，包括歌仔戲、手語演繹

及靜態展，都是推廣孝親與感恩，希望透過展演，轉迷信為正念。





4. 馬吉祥月



The Malaysia Tzu Chi Chapter held a blessing ceremony, to celebrate the auspicious 7th lunar month and also to promote vegetarianism. Many participants are not new to the idea of not burning joss paper, and, in fact, have inspired their family and friends, to donate the money used for buying joss paper, to needy families.



慈濟馬來西亞分會舉辦七月吉祥月活動，同時也推動齋戒，許多民眾不單是自己不再燒金紙，也影響親戚朋友，把買金紙的錢捐出做善事。





5. 馬照顧戶打掃



Students of Tzu Chi University”s ”Happy and Healthy Club” recently traveled to Malaysia, to take part in an international exchange. In addition to holding character-building seminars, the students also joined local volunteers on a home visitation, in which they helped clean up the house of a stroke victim. It was a visit where the students came away, with much to reflect upon, in their own lives and hearts.



慈濟大學快樂健康社到馬來西亞進行國際交流，除了舉辦品格教育營隊，他們也參與志工家訪，幫照顧戶打掃家房子，讓學生體驗見苦知福。





6. 食物銀行(4)青年團



The concept of a food bank is to gather resources from society and give them to the less fortunate. In Taiwan, the Chinese Youth Peace Corporation is one of the many organizations, that has established a food bank. They began by collecting bread from stores, and then giving it to needy families. Today, the organization not only provides breakfast to the poor, but also set up accessories shops to sell handicrafts for those who can”t afford to rent a store, and collect and donate unused household items.



食物銀行的概念，就是凝聚各種社會資源幫助需要的人，在台灣，中國青年和平團成立的食物銀行，是台灣食物銀行的先驅，最早他們向麵包店募集麵包，再捐給貧困家庭，現在這個食物銀行不但準備早餐給窮人，更募集生活用品，在格子舖裡義賣。

Karma is created from our thoughts and actions. The Buddha came to the world in hopes of enlightening all living beings. Through participating in the sign language musical of the Water Repentance Sutra, it is hoped that everyone can take the dharma to heart.

開示：業力是眾生起心動念而造作，佛陀來到人間度眾生，即是希望眾生能覺悟，故開啟一扇門，等待眾生覺悟。因此，慈濟藉由經藏演繹的機會，讓大家法入心、法入行。





7. 360泡茶師



Many people nowadays like to drink tea. This includes 51 year-old Steven Jones from San Diego, California who doesn”t just love to drink tea, but also has certification in the tea culture. His passion and love for Chinese tea, has inspired him to study the tea culture intensly, and today, he is teaching tea terminology in English to students in Taiwan and China. At first, many was surprised that their Chinese tea culture teacher is not Chinese.



很多人都喜歡喝茶，今年51歲來自加州聖地牙哥的美國人瓊斯史迪芬，不只愛喝茶，還考取了泡茶師證照，他對茶文化有深厚了解，還開發出茶文化專業英文，現在在台灣和中國開班授課，他說很多人因此跌破眼鏡，因為教中華茶文化竟然是個外國人。





8. 另類記者(3)黃國楨



In our continuing series on Tzu Chi media volunteers, we travel to Maioli where Huang Guozhen(黃國楨) and his wife Zheng Xiuying(鄭秀英), is learning the tricks of the journalism trade as they go along. Despite not having formal training, the couple is 100 percent devoted to their responsibility, with money or even health being of no consequence, when it comes reporting the news for Da Ai TV.



人文真善美志工專題報導，鏡頭來到苗栗縣，採訪一對夫妻檔志工，看他們如何學習報導的技巧。儘管從未接受過記者的訓練，這對夫妻檔百分百投入志工，犧牲自己的財富與健康，無所求地為大愛電視台報導。

At the end of our program, we go to California of the United States, and join Tzu Chi volunteers in the city of San Dimas, as they held a children summer camp from August 6 to 17, at the local chapter.
