Welcome to Da Ai Headlines. I”m Helen Liao. Thank you for joining us. Coming up in today”s show, we go to Lanyu(蘭嶼) Island to see the problems local residents are facing, in the aftermath of Typhoon Tembin. In Taipei”s Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, Tzu Chi volunteers and actors, are putting on a performance, based on the classic Buddhist Tale, ”Mu-lian (目連) saves his mother”. And, we look at the story of Tzu Chi volunteer Pan Xiancong(潘賢聰), who is a dedicated media volunteer in Kaohsiung.

1. 蘭嶼用水農作現況

A week after Typhoon Tembin”s return visit, ravaged Taiwan”s Lanyu(蘭嶼) Island, the lives of the island”s some 2,000 residents have almost returned to normal. However, Dongqing(東清) Village and Yeyin (野銀) Tribe are still struggling, as the residents there are faced, with continual water shortages and damage in their farm fields.

天秤颱風重創蘭嶼一周後，全島兩千多位居民，生活和交通幾乎恢復正常，不過在東清村和野銀部落，大多居民還是面臨缺水以及農作損失的情況。

2. 美風災發放

In the United States, Hurricane Isaac threatened to destroy homes in Louisiana. Although the damage was not as severe as anticipated, many residents were still forced to evacuate to the nearby state of Texas. As residents are starting to return home, the local Red Cross sought help from Tzu Chi, to help with emergency cash and environmental blankets.

在美國，艾薩克颶風的侵襲，造成路易斯安那州居民的安危，雖然這次災情不如預期嚴重，許多災民還是被迫撤離到臨近的德州避難，隨著艾薩克遠離，民眾也陸續回家，當地紅十字會請求慈濟幫忙，提供應急金和毛毯。

3. 美婦女健檢

Since 2000, the Tzu Chi free clinic in the city of Al-ham-bra, California has been holding free check-ups, for the women in the Chinese communities. The clinic provides free mam-mo-graphy and pap smears.

從2000年開始，美國加州阿罕布拉市的慈濟義診中心，每個月為當地的華裔女性舉辦健康檢查，義診中心免費提供乳房攝影與子宮抹片篩檢。

4. 義大利再勘災

In the late May, two earthquakes of magnitude of 6.0 and 5.8 struck Northeast Italy, leaving many buildings destroyed. Tzu Chi volunteers from Germany, made their way through different channels, to carry out disaster survey. From August 21st to 25th, the volunteers once again, drove to the disaster area in the municipality of Bondeno, to conduct another disaster survey.

五月下旬，義大利東北部連續發生芮氏規模6.0及5.8強震，讓許多建築物倒塌，鄰近的德國慈濟志工透過各種管道前往勘災，8月21日到25日，德國勘災團再度深入災區伯得諾市勘災。

5. 中正吉祥月

In Taiwan, Tzu Chi recently held a day-long exhibition, followed by a performance of the classic Buddhist tale ”Mulian(目連) Saves His Mother” at Taipei”s Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall. To help the story find more resonance with the audiences, the star of the performance, Xu Yafen (許亞芬), did her best, to humanize the performance, so that it could better transmit its messages.

為慶祝七月吉祥月，慈濟近來舉辦一整天的展演，晚間時在中正紀念堂演出佛典故事《目犍連救母》，為了讓觀眾對故事有所迴響，詮釋目犍連的許亞芬，盡量表演得更貼近人心，將正信、正念傳達給民眾。

6. 菲律賓吉祥月

To break the superstition of ”Ghost Month”, which is the 7th lunar month, Philippines Tzu Chi volunteers held a blessing ceremony at the Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce, in hopes of in-stilling the belief of auspiciousness, filial piety and gratefulness to the Chinese Filipino community.

為了改變農曆七月是鬼月的迷信觀念，菲律賓慈濟志工在當地菲華商聯總會舉辦七月吉祥月的祈福會，希望把吉祥、感恩、孝親的正信理念傳達給菲律賓華人民眾。

7. 菩提禪心理念

In Taiwan, to help spread the Buddhist teachings and Master Cheng Yen”s philosophy, starting from September 3rd, Da Ai TV will be broadcasting a new show called ”Bodhi Mind”. The show is set to promote Buddhist teachings through the use of Taiwanese opera.

在台灣，為了發揚佛法和證嚴上人的法，9月3日開始，慈濟推出新節目《菩提禪心》，這次的節目將融合傳統戲曲歌仔戲，來講述佛陀的智慧。

On Karma:

All living beings, be it animals or human, are born with the Buddha nature and live life as determined by their karma. Animals are not here to be food for humans; respect all life by refraining from eating meat.

主題：談業力

開示：眾生乃因業力牽引，而受報 生為不同身形，實則皆有佛性，莫因物小而輕其命；而動物並非生來供應給人類食用，為不與眾生結怨，首要節制口欲。

8. 另類記者(七)潘賢聰

Staying in Taiwan, Pan Xiancong(潘賢聰) is a milk delivery-man who decided to join his local Tzu Chi media team, despite knowing nothing about computers. With a never-say-quit attitude, Pan soon mastered the use of the computer and has even become his team”s leader.

持續留在台灣，高雄的慈濟真善美志工潘賢聰師兄，他是位牛奶經銷商，即使對電腦操作一竅不通，抱持著謙虛不放棄的態度，潘師兄很快就學會使用電腦，甚至成為真善美團隊的領袖。

9. 泰少觀所愛灑

Recently, Thailand Tzu Chi volunteers visited the Song-khla Juvenile Training Center, to educate youngster on how harmful drugs are to our human body. Volunteers also put on short skits, to help children understand the importance of filial piety.

泰國的慈濟志工第一次來到宋卡少年觀護所，要讓這裡的孩子了解，吸毒有害身心，也透過短劇，了解孝順父母的重要性。

10. 割愛助人

In Taiwan, Hong Xiujuan(洪秀娟) is a passionate art teacher, who loves to paint. Sadly, a year ago, she was diagnosed with lung cancer. After watching the real-life story of a Tzu Chi volunteer on Da Ai TV, Hong was inspired to hold an art exhibition and to donate the money raised, to those in need.

在台灣，美術老師洪秀娟平常最愛用繪畫紀錄生活，但一年前意外發現自己罹患肺腺癌，而就在一次觀賞大愛劇場，看到劇中人物義賣作品來幫助別人，讓她決定義賣自己的畫作，義賣所得捐作善款助人。

In Indonesia, to celebrate the 7th lunar month as a month of auspiciousness, more than 100 Tzu Chi volunteers gathered to perform the Sutra of Profound Gratitude Towards Parents at Ke-la-pa Ga-ding in Jakarta. Meanwhile in Batam, volunteers used short skits to encourage residents to adopt a meatless diet and no burning of joss paper. That”s all the time we have for. Thank you for watching Da Ai Headlines.
