Welcome to Da Ai Headlines. I”m Wendy Chen. Thank you for joining us. Coming up in today”s show, we join Tzu Chi volunteers in the Philippines as they are holding the third rice distribution in Cavite Province. In today”s report on ”Insect Invasion”, we explore why the increase and expanding habitat of mosquitoes is worrying experts in Taiwan. And, we meet a group of railway maintenance staff, who are dedicating their lives to ensure the safety of their passengers.

1. 菲甲美地圓滿

First up, in early August, the Philippines was hit by torrential rain and typhoons, that made the lives of poor families even harder. Therefore, starting on August 11th, Tzu Chi volunteers held three rice distributions every week in Cavite Province. The final rice distribution was held in the municipality of General Mariano Al-va-rez on August 25th, in which over 100 government officials and Taiwanese entrepreneurs came to help. Overall, the relief distribution helped a total of 10,000 families.

首先，在八月初，菲律賓遇上雨季加上風災，讓貧困家庭的生活雪上加霜，因此從8月11日開始，慈濟志工在菲律賓甲美地省連續三周發放大米，最後一場在阿爾瓦雷斯將軍鎮，將近一百位政府官員和台商也來付出自己一份力量，總計大米發放共幫助將近一萬個家庭。

Staying in Asia, but moving to Taiwan, to celebrate the 7th lunar month, Tzu Chi volunteers in Taipei, has not only put on a series of performances, but also setup an exhibition at the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall. For the past few days, the event has attracted many tourists from around the world and was also joined by volunteers from China”s Xiamen, who seized the opportunity to learn more about the right beliefs of the lunar month. They hope to encourage local residents to change their habits and celebrate the festival as the month of auspiciousness and filial piety, when they return home.

也是亞洲的報導，不過轉到台灣。為了慶祝農曆七月，慈濟不但在中正紀念堂舉辦一連串的表演，更準備了靜態展，最近這幾天，活動吸引不少遊客前來參觀，廈門地區的志工也前來參與，他們希望透過活動，能更了解農曆七月的涵義，並且希望回到廈門後能鼓勵更多人，把農曆七月當成吉祥月來過。

3. 鑑真動畫

While holding the 7th lunar month event at the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall in Taiwan, Tzu Chi volunteers played the animated film on ”Venerable Jianzhen” and put on sign language performances. The beautiful and solemn performance caught the attention of many passersby, including the mayor of New Taipei City, Zhu Lilun(朱立倫).

慈濟志工在中正紀念堂播映鑑真大和尚的動畫，以及帶來手語演繹，表演吸引大批民眾前來觀賞，新北市長朱立倫也來共襄盛舉。

4. 蟲蟲危機(2)蚊子

As pointed out in our series of feature reports on ”Insect Invasion” yesterday, global warming is not only making our world a hotter place but also changing the living habitats of countless species. One of those is the mosquito, whose habitats and numbers have expanded with the rise in temperature, a worrisome trend as the two major species of mosquitoes in Taiwan, the Asian tiger mosquito and the yellow fever mosquito, are also known as carriers of the Dengue Fever. Taiwan”s Centers for Disease Control has already seen a rise in the number of dengue fever cases this year, while academics have tracked the mosquitoes growing range, as its habitat slowly moves north.

在我們上次蟲蟲危機報導中，全球暖化不但讓地球變熱，同時也改變無數物種的棲息地，其中一種就是蚊子，牠們的棲息地和品種隨著溫度上升而擴張，台灣的埃及斑蚊和白線斑蚊，帶來登革熱的隱憂，台灣的疾管局發現今年登革熱病例上升。學者追蹤蚊子的活動範圍，現在牠們的棲息地正慢慢往北擴張。

On Recycling Centers:

The people at Tzu Chi”s recycling stations are like one big family; the environmental centers provide a place for the elderly to work together for the greater good, and in turn gain a sense of belonging. Recycling work provides a good way for spiritual cultivation.

開示：環保站就像一個大家庭，在這個說好話、想好意、做好事的大環境中，讓許多長者不再獨處感到孤單，也在耳濡目染下，改變習氣，是調適人心，使心靈健康的法門。

5. 鐵道養護員

Yesterday we met the train driver of the Alishan Forest Railway, and today, we are meeting another group of hard working men who are dedicating their lives, to ensuring the safety of all passengers, traveling via the railway. The railway needs regularly inspection and maintenance, and the work of these maintenance staff begins after midnight, as they clear away rocks and other obstacles along the railway track. Their work also continues during the day, as they examine the train”s tracks, to ensure they are lined up correctly. What”s more inspiring is that, these hard working men who, out of their busy schedules, are devoted volunteer firefighters and police officers.

昨天我們帶您認識了阿里山小火車鐵道的駕駛，今天我們要來認識另外一群辛苦的鐵道養護員。用心工作，以確保乘客的安全，鐵道需要定時的檢查與維修，而這群養護員的工作就從凌晨開始，將軌道旁的落石或障礙移除，而白天持續工作，確認鐵軌正常並做維修，更讓人深受感動的是，這些鐵道養護員在忙碌的生活中還抽空加入義消與義警。

6. 另類記者(10)黃鴻明

Next, we meet Tzu Chi media volunteer, Huang Hongming(黃鴻明), who”s habit of playing computer games was replaced by a passion for editing film. He picked up the video camera one day, after constantly complaining that the video footage captured was not up to his standards. It was that one experience that made him realize filming is easier said than done.

接著，來看一位真善美志工黃鴻明，原本沉溺於電玩，現在對於影片剪輯愛不釋手，曾經嫌棄別的志工拍攝畫面不夠好，因而涉入影片拍攝的工作，也因此才了解到，拍攝並不是個簡單的工作。

7. 茹素陳琮富

In Taiwan, Changhua Tzu Chi volunteers recently held a community blessing ceremony to celebrate the 7th lunar month. One Tzu Chi volunteer, Chen Congfu (陳琮富) shared with everyone how his life has changed dramatically after becoming a vegetarian. Previously, when he was still a meat-eater, he was short tempered, however, after switching to a meatless diet, he learned to repent for his past behaviors, and eventually found inner peace - a change that his wife noticed and is grateful for.

在台灣，彰化慈濟志工為了慶祝農曆七月吉祥月，在社區舉辦愛灑祈福會，慈濟志工陳琮富跟大家分享茹素後的改變，以前愛吃葷食，脾氣暴躁，茹素後，身心輕安自在，這樣的改變讓太太注意到了，也很感恩這樣的改變。

8. 身障有出路

The bakery opened by the Eden Social Welfare Foundation in Taiwan, has been helping many mentally and physically challenged children by giving them a chance to work. Today, we take a look at the story of A-yuan(阿源), who has been working at the bakery for more than 13 years. Thanks to the support from his teacher, he not only gained confidence, but even earned enough money to purchase an apartment.

伊甸基金會成立庇護工場，這些年下來給予身障和患有智能障礙的孩子工作的機會，今天我們來看看阿源的故事。阿源在庇護工場

工作超過13年，因為有老師的鼓勵，他不但找到自己，更存夠錢買房子。

The blessing ceremonies held by Tzu Chi at the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall successfully concluded on the evening of September 5th. Early yesterday morning, over 140 Tzu Chi volunteers from around Taipei gathered to take down the stage and equipments, as well as carry out cleaning work. We will leave you with these images.
