Coming up in today”s show, Tzu Chi volunteers uncover families in need of special care and attention, while distributing aid in Cambodia.
Tzu Chi volunteers in Japan meet the government minister for disaster management, who thanked them for their work in tsunami hit areas.
And Da Ai Technology - the company that turns plastic bottles into t-shirts - has set up shop in Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital.

1.柬埔寨貧苦 Helping people in great need

Tzu Chi volunteers from Singapore, Malaysia and Cambodia, joined together recently for a large aid distribution, in the Chroy Chongva commune, of Cambodia”s capital, Phnom Penh. In September, life for the residents in this poor area was made even more difficult by flooding. While distributing supplies to 888 households, volunteers found two special cases. One, was a pair of elderly women, in their 70s, who survive on wild plants, and the kindness of their neighbors. The other was a family of three, whose mother could not give milk to her newborn child.

來自新加坡、馬來西亞和柬埔寨的慈濟志工,合力完成水患大型發放行動,針對柬埔寨首都金邊近郊的水淨華區,9月份的水災,讓原本就屬於低收入戶的家庭 更陷入困境,志工們與當地居民一起發物資給888戶家庭,並在過程當中遇到兩個個案,一對七十多歲表姊妹,平時就靠野菜與鄰居幫忙,還有新手爸媽與孩子
擔心沒有奶水給孩子喝。


2.眷村火警關懷 Fire in Zhongyi village, Taichung

On Sunday, a fire broke out in Zhongyi Village, in Taichung”s Daya District, damaging 12 houses. Luckily, no one was injured. Tzu Chi volunteers immediately mobilized to offer comfort, as well as consolation cash, to the victims of the blaze.

上周日,在台中大雅區忠義眷村發生火警,火勢蔓延波及附近十二戶民宅,幸好沒有人員傷亡,慈濟志工馬上動員到現場,獻上急難慰問金和溫暖膚慰。


3.菲火災發放 Helping to rebuild after fire

On November 25, a large fire destroyed 71 homes in Mandaluyong City, in the Philippines, displacing 167 families. Before the end of the day, Tzu Chi volunteers arrived at the site, to survey the scene. And, the very next day, they prepared supplies for the fire victims. After listening to the story of Tzu Chi”s bamboo coin banks, many of the residents responded by contributing to the collection tins.

11月25日,一場大火在菲律賓曼達盧永市一處社區燒毀房舍,167戶家庭無家可歸,慈濟志工火災當天到現場勘災,隔日準備好物資發放給受災鄉親,許多民眾聽聞竹筒歲月的故事,也立刻響應,奉獻一分助人的心意。


4.玻利維亞義診 Free clinic in rural area

From the Philippines to Bolivia, where local Tzu Chi volunteers and a medical team from the French Hospital in Santa Cruz, traveled 40 minutes to the village of Porongo, to hold a free clinic. A total of 19 volunteers and 40 medical workers helped treat 96 villagers.

從菲律賓轉到玻利維亞,玻利維亞慈濟人和當地法國醫院醫護團隊,來到距離聖塔庫魯茲聯絡點40分鐘車程的小村莊,坡隆溝,十九位志工、四十位醫護攜手守護96位患者的健康。

5.美華碩打包帶 Strapping good baskets

In northern California, of the United States, Tzu Chi”s environmental volunteers have the important task of recycling at the local ASUS factory. While sorting cardboard and other items, the volunteers were disappointed to find that they could not recycle the plastic straps, that are used to tie up boxes, because they contain metal. So, a pair of senior volunteers, came up with an idea, to weave the straps into eco-friendly baskets.

美國北加州的環保志工,他們有一項繁重任務,就是在華碩電腦廠區整理回收舊紙箱,不過捆著紙箱的打包帶,卻沒有回收公司願意收購,僅有一家回收公司
願意收購含有金屬材質的打包帶,志工們就靈機一動,用打包帶來創作,變成手工袋。

6.日本大臣慈濟 Meeting with Tatsuo Hirano

On March 11th, a massive earthquake struck northeast Japan, sparking a tsunami, that caused widespread death and destruction. Tzu Chi volunteers all over the world immediately mobilized, to lend a hand. At the suggestion of Japan”s Minister of State for Disaster Management, Tatsuo Hirano, Tzu Chi turned the donations, from 39 countries, into consolation cash, for the disaster victims. To date, over 96,000 families have received money, through ten distributions. At a recent meeting, the minister personally thanked the volunteers.

3月11號日本東北大地震,引發致命的大海嘯,造成大量傷亡,全球慈濟人動了起來伸出援手,因為日本大震災復興對策擔當大臣,平野達男的建議,慈濟人把從世界39個國家匯聚的愛心,以見舞金的方式,透過到目前10場發放,送給96000多戶受災居民,大臣也代表日本官方表示感謝。


7.水車來台感恩 Japan victim thanks Tzu Chi

Another person who is grateful to Tzu Chi, is northeast Japan resident, Fukuko Suisha. The woman recently took a special trip back to Taiwan, to thank volunteers, not only for the work they did in Japan, but also for chanting scriptures, at the funeral of her Taiwanese father, three months ago.

另一位要感恩慈濟的是日本人水車福子女士,最近福子女士回到台灣,不止是因為災後受到慈濟的幫助而感恩,也感謝慈濟在三個月前她父親往生時協助助念 與告別式。


《 衲履足跡 》Dec 8 On Fate 談因緣

In many cases if you miss out on fate, the opportunity will not arise again. All cause and effect comes and goes, but if we are fated to be together, that is our current blessing.
If we do not share a common fate, there is nothing we can do to save the situation. The Master said Tzu Chi must hold onto senior volunteers and recruit new volunteers.

很多事情如果錯過因緣,就再也沒有機會做了。一切因緣生、一切因緣滅,有緣大家共聚共事,就是當地的福,無緣也強求不得;要留住舊有菩薩,不斷接引新進者。


8.北慈感恩科技 Da Ai Technology in Taipei TCH

Established in December, 2008, Da Ai Technology was the first business in Taiwan solely devoted to eco-friendly products. Now, the company has opened a store inside Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital. Company chairman, Huang Huade, says, he hopes to spread the Master Cheng Yen”s teachings, through clothing made from recycled plastic bottles.

大愛感恩科技於2008年12月成立,也是台灣第一家公司,致力於提倡環保與永續經營,如今大愛感恩科技在台北慈院正式開幕,董事長黃華德說希望能夠透過這些環保產品,傳遞上人的精神理念。


9.雙和新家精進 Year-end blessing in Shuanghe

Tzu Chi volunteers, in New Taipei City”s Zhonghe and Yonghe districts, held their year-end blessing ceremony, in the newly-built Shuanghe Jing Si Hall, for the first time. After the event, some 300 volunteers stayed behind, for a training seminar.

新北市中永和地區的慈濟志工,今年首次在雙和靜思堂舉辦社區歲末祝福,隨後緊接著,超過300位志工留下來,參與場精進活動及禮拜法華經序。

John Lennon was one of the four members of the British pop group, the Beatles. The musician whose tunes were listened to around the globe was also a prominent peace activist. After marrying and having a son, he stopped performing, and concentrated on family life. On this day, in front of his house, he was shot and killed by a deranged fan. Lennon was 40 years old.

Taiwan”s Chang Gung (長庚) Memorial Hospital was the first in the country to stop asking inpatients to pay a security deposit before they were admitted. In May 1986, while in Hualien for a briefing on how construction of Tzu Chi Hospital was progressing, Taiwan”s premier Yu Guohua (俞國華) discussed the idea of waving the inpatient deposit. On this day of the same year, the Department of Health ordered all Taiwanese hospitals to let patients check into hospital without paying a deposit.

Originally Tzu Chi members from Hualien, Taiwan, married couple Liu Huangwen (劉晃汶) and You Yueying (游月英) set up a Tzu Chi liaison office in Austria on this day in 1992. The next year, they hosted a tea meeting for the local Chinese community, and started charity work. In 2007, they held a Buddha Day ceremony. The volunteers hoped to bring the Tzu Chi spirit of compassion and relief to Austria.

The Tzu Chi chapter in Japan held its 10th anniversary on this day in 2001, and at the same time, opened its new location in the Shinjuku ward of Tokyo. Buddhist nuns from the Jing Si Abode and Tzu Chi volunteers came from Taiwan to celebrate the event.
Meanwhile, in Taiwan, Lugu (鹿谷) Elementary School in Nantou and Daji (大吉) Junior High School in Chiayi, which were rebuilt by Tzu Chi after the 1999 earthquake, were completed on this day of the same year.

1980年,英國搖滾傳奇,約翰藍儂遭槍殺,約翰藍儂是英國樂團披頭四的成員之一,他所創作的歌曲風靡全球,同時也是一位和平運動家,結婚生子後,約翰藍儂停止表演,專心家庭生活,這天在自家門前,遭到罹患精神疾病的男歌迷槍殺身亡,享年四十歲。

1986年,全台醫院接通函,免收住院保證金,長庚醫院首創免收住院保證金制度,在1986年5月聽取花蓮慈濟醫院的建院進度,行政院長俞國華研討免收住院保證金的理念,在同一年的這天,行政院衛生署發函給全台各個醫院,將制度改為免收住院保證金。

1992年,遠渡重洋奧地利,慈濟中歐新據點,原籍台灣花蓮的慈濟會員,劉晃汶和游月英夫妻在1992年這天,在奧地利成立慈濟聯絡處,隔年舉辦茶會,向僑民介紹慈濟,從此展開慈善關懷,2007年也仿照台灣舉辦浴佛活動,希望將慈悲喜捨的精神推廣至奧地利。

2001年,慈濟日本慶十年,希望工程雙落成,慈濟日本分會在2001年這一天慶祝十周年慶,同時舉辦位在東京新宿的新會所啟用儀式,來自花蓮靜思精舍的法師與台灣慈濟志工都到場祝賀,同時在台灣,歷經九二一地震,由慈濟所援建的南投鹿谷國小和嘉義大吉國中,也再同一年的這天落成。


11.馬無量義錄音 Year-end at Batu Pahat

At the year-end blessing ceremony in Batu Pahat, Malaysia, this weekend, Tzu Chi volunteers will be performing the Sutra of Innumerable Meanings. The volunteers have been practicing for two months.

馬來西亞峇株巴轄慈濟人預計這個周末舉辦歲末祝福,並計畫演繹無量義經,因此兩個月來,大家在各地區加緊練習。
