We start today”s show in Thailand. In areas where the floodwater has begun to recede, Tzu Chi is initiating a relief work program, to pay residents to restore their communities. In the village of in Hunsa, in Bangkok”s Nong Khaem County, the program has been in effect since December 5th. Residents say the initiative has helped return their community to normal, and put much-needed money into people”s pockets. Students and teachers from the Chiang Mai Tzu Chi School paid their own way, some even taking out loans, to travel the 14 hours, to Bangkok, to help with the clean up.

Rice distribution in Bandung

Tzu Chi volunteers in Indonesia went to the Bandung district, 100km southeast of Jakarta, to carry out rice distributions, in three poor villages, in the Ciparay area. Local police also helped out. The residents all agreed that, the 20kg bags of rice, came just in time.

Cleaning care recipient”s house

From Indonesia to Taiwan, where we meet Ms. Zhan詹 in our next story. After her husband and her son both died, the mother was left to care for her three daughters alone. Then, a traffic accident three years ago, crippled her for life. Tzu Chi recently bought Ms. Zhan an electrical wheelchair.

Virtuous deeds are the source of happiness; bad deeds breed suffering.

Show of strength

There are only 132 Tzu Chi people in Malaysia”s Batu Pahat. Yet, local volunteers somehow managed to put on a huge performance of the Buddhist classic: ”The Sutra of Innumerable Meanings”. They did it by recruiting actors and stage hands at local Tzu Chi events. In the end, a cast of 399 was assembled. Many others also worked behind the scenes, to make the show a great success.

Deaf performer Zhang Jingyun

Among the 399 performers, in the ”Innumerable Meanings” show in Batu Pahat, were Zhang Jingyun and her brother. Zhang, who is deaf, cannot hear the music that accompanies the stage show; but, with willpower and courage, she managed to stay in perfect time.

On Purifying the Heart

Intelligent as they are, humans are allowing themselves to harm the planet while pursuing pleasure and shortsighted gains.
Climate change is causing havoc throughout the world. It is therefore important to start purifying ourselves within, and changing our lifestyle for the sake of the earth.

Marikina City honors Tzu Chi

After Typhoon Ketsana hit the Philippines in 2009, Tzu Chi”s relief-work program in Marikina City, helped residents recover from the storm, and inspired them to start recycling with Tzu Chi. As the city celebrated its 15th anniversary, officials paid tribute to Tzu Chi, by giving volunteers an award.

Medical outreach on east coast

On the relatively remote east coast of Taiwan, getting to the hospital isn”t always easy, especially for patients with chronic conditions, rare diseases, or disabilities. That”s why medical teams from Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital visit residents in isolated regions, to check up on their health. We caught up with a doctor, and a nutritionist, on a visit to a center for the disabled.
