The goal of Tzu Chi”s medical mission is to deliver quality medical services to those in need, and in Indonesia, the recent Tzu Chi free clinic helped 786 patients. We look back at the early days of Tzu Chi”s charity and how Master Cheng Yen led the very first group Tzu Chi commissioners in overcoming challenges in their way. And, Da Ai Technology celebrates its third anniversary, as the company continues to come out with eco-friendly products, made from recycled materials.

1.1211泰慈濟Big clean up in Bangkok

Tzu Chi volunteers in Thailand have little else on their minds than restoring the flood-hit homes of local people as quickly as possible. Since December 5th in the Hunsa village area of NongKhaem, Bangkok, Tzu Chi has been organizing a relief-work program, to pay residents to clean up their neighborhood. As people enthusiastically joined the scheme, even the children came out to help. Ms. Wen Ying溫英, who is a Tzu Chi volunteer, said, although both her home and business were flooded, she wanted to help other people first. She even directed the relief workers to neighboring homes, telling them hers could wait. In the end, her friends in Tzu Chi insisted on helping her tidy up.

慈濟在泰國，期盼協助水患受災居民清掃家園，盡快恢復生活，從12月5號開始，在曼谷的農鑒縣涵灑村，實施以工代賑，讓居民在清掃家園的同時，也能得到生活上得補助，居民熱烈響應，家裡小朋友也都來幫忙，慈濟志工溫英說，雖然家裡、工廠都淹水，她還是忙著做慈濟，甚至以工代賑來到自己社區了，還是一直客氣請大家不用到家裡幫忙，先為居民打掃，最後，認識的慈濟志工還是堅持幫她整理家園。



2.貧戶大米Bringing rice and hope to the needy

In the Philippines, Tzu Chi volunteers held another rice distribution for the country”s poor and hungry. Before the handout, in which a total of 1,300 households received aid, volunteers spent 3-4 weeks getting to know the residents of Manila”s Binondo district, and Baseco Compound, to better understand their needs.

菲律賓慈濟人再度展開白米發放，這一次志工花了三、四個星期的時間，針對馬尼拉岷倫洛區，和巴西戈的貧困戶
逐戶訪視，瞭解哪些人家需要幫忙。



3.印西爪哇義診Remote medical aid

Indonesia”s Army Education and Training Command Headquarters recently celebrated its 17th anniversary by partnering with Tzu Chi to hold a free clinic in the remote Haurwangi Village in West Java. The charity event helped 786 patients, who had little access to healthcare before, due to their secluded location.

印尼陸軍教育訓練司令部，為了慶祝十七周年，和慈濟合作舉辦義診，來到西爪哇的哈武萬基村，守護了786人次的患者的健康，由於地處偏遠，這些患者都很少有看病的機會。



4.外勞義診頒獎Free clinic for overseas workers

Also providing quality medical services to those in need, in Taiwan, TIMA held a free clinic at Taipei Main Station on Sunday for foreign workers. The event, which is jointly organized with Taipei City Department of Labor, is in its eighth year.

同樣的提供高品質的醫療，在台北車站，台北市勞工局與慈濟人醫會合作，針對外籍勞工舉辦義診，今年已經邁入第八年了。



5.1213歷史的今天On this day, the 13th of December.

1937 Nanjing Massacre
After the Marco Polo Bridge Incident on July 7, 1937, which started the Second Sino-Japanese War, the Japanese Army began its siege of Nanjing by December of the same year and would sack the city 13 days later. As Japanese soldiers entered Nanjing, they began murdering and raping hundreds of thousands of unarmed Chinese soldiers and civilians for six weeks. The event would be known as the Nanjing Massacre.

1988 New TC office in Taipei
As Tzu Chi expanded its services and memberships in Taipei, its old office quickly ran out of space. On this day in 1988, the construction of the new Taipei chapter began. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Lin Yanggang(林洋港), the president of the Judicial Yuan, Wu Shuiyun(吳水雲), the Hualien County governor, Master Cheng Yen and Tzu Chi volunteers. The new building was completed three years later and is still in use today.

1991 N & S Korea Basic Agreement
At the end of World War II, Korea was divided by the 38th parallel. Skirmishes between the two sides occurred frequently, and a full scale war broke out in 1950. On this day in 1991, the two sides met in Seoul to sign the Agreement on Reconciliation, Non-Aggression, and Exchanges and Cooperation.

1994 Tzu Chi in San Francisco
The Tzu Chi San Francisco office in Chinatown opened its doors on this day in 1994. The chapter actively promotes Tzu Chi”s missions by holding bone marrow drives, charity auctions, and charity concerts. Five years after it opened, the chapter office would move again to better serve Northern California.

2009 New life in Aceh
After the 2004 Asian Tsunami, Tzu Chi helped hard-hit Aceh of Indonesia rebuild by constructing three Da Ai Villages. On this day in 2009, the homes were officially handed over to the Indonesian government. The three villages house more than 2,500 families.

1937年，南京保衛戰，日軍攻陷屠城，1937年七七事變之後，日軍發動大規模戰爭侵略中國，這個月開始進軍首都南京，13天後攻陷進入南京城，對城內投降的士兵和平民，展開為期六個禮拜的屠殺行動，史稱南京大屠殺。

1988年，慈濟台北分會新廈開工，隨著慈濟基金會在台部地區的會務發展，使得原本的辦公空間不足，於是1998的這天，而另覓土地，興建慈濟台北分會，包括司法院長林洋港、花蓮縣長吳水雲，以及證嚴法師和慈濟志工都到場
參加開工典禮，新大樓在三年後完工，沿用至今。

1991年，南北互簽協議，朝鮮半島和平，自從二次世界大戰之後，朝鮮半島以北緯三十八度為界，被分裂為南韓與北朝鮮兩個國家，其間衝突不斷並於1950年發生韓戰，1991年的這天，雙方代表在首爾舉行高峰會，簽訂非核與互不侵犯協議。

1994年，慈濟舊金山，生根北加州，位在中國城的慈濟舊金山會所，這天啟用，從此，志工在當地推動慈善志業，包括舉辦骨髓捐贈愛心義演活動 ，五年後，聯絡處遷移至永久會所，積極在北加地區發揮愛心。

2009年，移交大愛村，亞齊新生活，2004南亞海嘯過後，慈濟基金會在印尼重災區亞齊省，援建三座大愛村，2009的這天，由慈濟印尼分會正式移交給印尼政府，總計超過兩千五百戶住民，展開新生活。



6.1212下鄉訪貧The story of timeless Tzu Chi photo

The Tzu Chi Foundation will soon enter its 46th year. In the beginning, all charity missions and home visitations were personally led by the founder, Master Cheng Yen. On December 12th, 1970 when Tzu Chi was barely five years old, during the annual home visits, which preceded every winter distribution, a bus carrying the Master and her disciples got stuck on a riverbed. The Master took a photo of volunteers pushing the bus together. The picture would become a timeless image, that embodies Tzu Chi”s spirit of unity and resolve.

慈濟志業邁向46年，早期慈善活動都由證嚴上人帶領弟子，親自逐戶探訪照顧戶，而在1970年12月12日，當時，慈濟功德會成立不到五年，在執行每年的冬令發放前的家訪，發生遊覽車陷入溪谷的意外，由證嚴上人拍下一張委員一起努力推動巴士的照片，這張經典照片呈現出慈濟人的團結。



7.12歲小爸12-year-old man of the house

In our next report today, we meet 12-year-old Zhang Jinfeng 張錦峰 from Taiwan”s Kaohsiung. When still a baby, his father died of cancer, and his mother left him for his grandparents to bring up. Now, Jinfeng”s elderly guardians have difficulty moving around. The filial grandson not only looks after them, and his sister, but also does all the household chores at home. Recently, Zhang Jinfeng received an award for his devotion.

在我們接下來的報導，我們來認識住在高雄12歲的張錦峰，年紀小小的他，爸爸因罹患癌症過世，而媽媽則是離家改嫁，他則由祖父母帶大，如今阿公阿嬤行動不便，孝順的錦峰不只照顧，阿公阿嬤還有妹妹，也做所有的家事，最近，他獲得了孝悌兒童獎。



8.馬曼絨歲末Year-end blessing in Manjung

In Malaysia, Tzu Chi”s year-end blessing ceremonies are taking place in local communities, as a way to bring more people into the Tzu Chi family. In Manjung, in southwest Perak, a hall was rented from a local hotel for the ceremony. Because volunteers showed up early to clean up - a job typically done by hotel staff - the manager decided to let Tzu Chi use the venue free of charge. Let”s join the volunteers as they roll up their sleeves, to prepare for the blessing ceremony.

9.大愛感恩三年Da Ai Technology: 3 years old

Da Ai Technology was established in December 2008. It was the first corporation in Taiwan to devote itself solely to promoting conservation work and creating sustainability. The company celebrated its 3rd birthday by holding a tea party in Taipei”s Guandu. Participants include recycling volunteers, government officials and a general manager of a German corporation.

大愛感恩科技於2008年12月成立，是台灣首家完全投入環保，並堅持永續經營理念的公司，今天，大愛感恩科技在台北關渡，為慶祝成立三週年舉辦茶會，前來參與的有環保志工、政府官員以及德國集團的經理。



10.仿生機器人賽Robot wars

A robot contest took place at Taiwan Normal University on the weekend. Built by elementary and junior high school students, the machines battled each other in pulling contests and speed races, and were also judged for style and design.

週末在台灣師範大學，有一場仿生機器人比賽，參賽的國中小學生做出的機器人，比賽走直線跟拔河，不過除了性能，造型也納入評審考量。

To help young children develop good reading habits, Taichung”s Tzu Chi volunteers delivered books to Xiwei(溪尾) Elementary School.
