Tzu Chi is here for you

We kick off today`s program in China; following the Yaan(雅安) Earthquake on April 20th, Tzu Chi volunteers once again traveled to Lushan(蘆山) High School in Sichuan(四川) Province, where they taught students sign language and Tzu Chi songs. Through these activities, students not only realized the meaning of Great Love, but are also slowly recovering from the shock of the disaster.

Students giving back to community

Staying in Sichuan(四川) Province, although most of China is taking time off to celebrate the Labour Day holidays, some students in Mingshan(名山) High School took the opportunity, to join volunteers in a visit to a nearby nursing home. As for the nursing home residents, seeing the number of children that came to visit them, left them deeply moved.

A brave girl, Gao Ying

The collapse of many school buildings in the 2008 Wenchuan(汶川) Earthquake led to the tragic death of thousands of students in China`s Sichuan(四川) Province. At that time, when rescue workers were doing their best, to save those still alive, they came across a little girl by the name of Gao Ying(高瑩), who despite been buried under rubble for some 20 hours, put on a brave smile until she was finally freed. Though losing her legs to the disaster, Gao is now in university and is studying education, in hopes of teaching children in the future, to face life with a positive frame of mind.

When speaking of dementia, we usually think of the memory and physical deterioration, associated with the Alzheimer`s disease, but in reality, stroke victims are also likely to suffer dementia as well. 5. Filial daughter, Jiang Xinshu

Continuing on the topic of dementia, we go to Taiwan`s Taichung(台中) City, to meet Tzu Chi volunteer Jiang Xinshu`s (江新姝ㄕㄨ) 78-year-old mother, who is a sufferer of dementia. Despite having hired a professional nurse to take care of her mom, Jiang(江) still attends to her mother`s needs personally, as she says, it is a child`s duty to take care of his or her parents.
