1.台北外勞健檢 Mutual help at foreign worker checkup

We start today”s show on the theme of National Day here in Taiwan. Over the long weekend holiday, northern Taiwan TIMA members went to Taipei Main Station to hold a health consultation for foreign workers. Among the volunteers were a group of Indonesians, who helped their compatriots through the checkups. Although the weather was less than perfect, it did little to dampen the mood of the enthusiastic team.

節目一開始，首先帶大家看台灣的國慶日，國慶日的長周末，北區慈濟人醫會在台北火車站，舉辦外籍勞工健康諮詢活動，志工行列中多了一群印尼裔的外勞服務人員，在現場協助看診的外勞朋友，雖然天候不佳，但是他們的熱情不減。


2.百年國慶大會 ROC celebrates 100th birthday

As well as being a day for checkups for foreign workers, Monday, October 10th, was the 100th birthday of the Republic of China. We joined the large parade that passed by the Presidential Palace in Taipei.

除了幫助外勞健檢，星期一，十月十號也是中華民國建國百年國慶大會，現在來看看台北總統府前的國慶遊行。


3.布里斯本雙十 ROC”s centennial in Brisbane

Taiwanese communities around the world also joined in the centennial celebrations. In our next story, we take you to the festivities in Australia”s Brisbane.

世界各地台灣人的社區也一起慶祝百年雙十國慶，接下來我們一起來看看，在澳洲布里斯本的活動。

4.印徐妙霞轉念 Little giant

Next up we meet someone who is improving themselves despite difficult circumstances. Tzu Chi care recipient Chie Miaw Ha, from Singkawang, in Indonesia”s West Kalimantan, developed hydrocephalus when she was an infant. Unable to walk, the 44-year-old slides around on her back. However, she has no problem taking care of herself around the house, and lives each day with optimism and courage.

接下來帶大家看一個，儘管面臨困苦的環境，依然勇敢面對生活，印尼山口洋市關懷戶徐妙霞，嬰兒時期就罹患水腦症，無法站起來 44歲的她，只能躺著慢慢移動身軀，不過，卻能夠打理自己的生活，每天更是樂觀的面對生活。


5.總裁夫人志工 Good deeds can”t wait

Tzu Chi volunteer, Zhang Baofang(張寶方) is also a volunteer captain at Veterans Hospital in Taichung, Taiwan, where she has served for 18 years. Followed in her footsteps, her daughter Yang Naixuan(楊乃瑄) already has two years of volunteering experience, despite only being a college student. Together, the mother and daughter make a good team.

台中市慈濟志工張寶方，是台中榮總醫院的志工隊長，無私付出十八年，女兒楊乃瑄受到媽媽愛心影響，雖然還在大學求學，卻已經有兩年的志工服務經驗，母女攜手行善，體會行善行孝不能等。


6.葉秉森茹素 Cause and effect

Tzu Chi volunteer, Ye Bingsen(葉秉森) from central Taiwan was one of the many people who participated in the Water Repentance musical in August. After experiencing a recurring nightmare, he decided to keep up his vegetarian diet. We went to find out more.

台中市烏日區的慈濟志工葉秉森，在今年八月的水懺經藏演繹中承擔妙音，體驗了一連串的噩夢後，他決定持續茹素護生，一起來看看。


《 衲履足跡 》談疼惜物命 Cherishing Things

Tzu Chi does not recycle to make blankets, but to promote the idea of looking after your possessions. ”Practicing environmentalism at the source” is one way to recycle.
As well as breathing new life into recycled items, you will also develop a frugal nature. That”s why environmentalism begins at home.

慈濟不是為了要製作毛毯才做回收，而是要宣導疼惜物命。「清淨在源頭」的回收方法，不只提升回收品質，也提升了節儉美德，因此，做環保就要從生活落實。


7.環保船比賽 Eco-friendly model boat contest

To encourage school students to breathe new life into recycled items, Taichung City in central Taiwan held a competition to find the most eco-friendly model ship. Elementary to high school students entered their handmade vessels into the contest. The boats were made out of recycled bits and pieces, and powered by solar cells.

為了鼓勵學童，提倡資源回收的觀念，台中市今天舉辦一場「百船齊發」的競速活動，參賽對象是國小、國中、高中生，他們動手做船，要參加比賽，這艘船是利用環保回收的材料製成，再配上太陽能板。


8.游仙人文交流 Orientation at Youxian High

We go from Taiwan to China for our next story, where new students at Youxian High School in Sichuan recently took part in orientation. The school, which is in Mianyang, was built by Tzu Chi after the 2008 earthquake. Since then, volunteers have hosted the annual orientation, to help inspire the students, and teach them healthy values.

接下來從台灣前往中國，來看看四川游仙中學，今年的新生訓練，這所位於綿陽市的學校，是2008地震後由慈濟所援建，從此每年的新生訓練就由慈濟志工負責，要啟發孩子也帶給他們正確的價值觀。


9.加感恩節送愛 Early Thanksgiving presents delivery

It will soon be Thanksgiving in North America. In Canada, Tzu Chi volunteers from west Toronto dropped in on Elmbank Junior Middle Academy to deliver early gifts to the children. The winter clothing will help the poor students stay warm this winter.

北美洲再過不久就要過感恩節了，加拿大 西多倫多慈濟志工，因此來到埃倫班克初中學院，送來感恩節的禮物，送來的冬衣將幫助貧童過暖冬。


10.1012歷史的今天 On this day, the 12th of October

1492 Columbus reaches the New World
Italian explorer Christopher Columbus, who was inspired by the travels of Marco Polo, sailed across the Atlantic four times under the auspices of the Spanish monarchy. On this day in 1492, during his first voyage to the New World, Columbus and his crew reached Watling Island, in the Bahamas.

1885 Taiwan becomes a province
After the Sino-French War, which ended in April, 1885, the Qing Dynasty became more aware of Taiwan”s strategic position and turned it from a prefecture of Fujian into a province, on this day of the same year. Liu Mingchuan(劉銘傳), who defended Taiwan against the French invasion during the war, was appointed as the governor of the newly established province. Liu also built Taiwan”s first railroad.

1995 Love for Penghu”s inmates
On this day in 1995, Taiwanese Tzu Chi volunteers from Taoyuan and Penghu visited the Dingwan(鼎灣) Prison on Penghu. Since then, volunteers show up for every major festival with books for the inmates, bringing with them love that inspires and rehabilitates.

2002 Kuta bombings
The popular tourist destination of Kuta, in Bali, Indonesia, saw a series of bombings on this day in 2002. Three bombs detonated outside two nightclubs and the US consulate, killing more than 200 people, many of whom were Australian tourists.

2007 SA”s 1st TC camp for locals
On this day in 2007, more than 90 South African volunteers came together for a Tzu Chi camp, to learn more about Tzu Chi”s spirit of universal love and its unique code of conduct. The workshop marked a new milestone for the Taiwanese NGO”s development in South Africa.

1492年 哥倫布登陸美洲 發現新世界
受到馬可波羅遊記的影響，哥倫布計劃前往新世界，在西班牙皇室的資助下，一共四次橫渡大西洋，第一次往新世界的航行，哥倫布在1492年這天，抵達美洲巴哈馬的華特林島。

1885年 台灣府改為行省 首任巡撫劉銘傳
1885年4月，中法戰爭之後，清朝體認到台灣的戰略地位，因此在這天將台灣改為行省，任命中法戰爭中，擊退法軍的福建巡撫劉銘傳，為首任台灣巡撫，劉銘傳也修築台灣第一條鐵路。

1995年 澎湖鼎灣監獄 慈濟志工送溫情
桃園和澎湖地區的慈濟志工，這天首次進入澎湖鼎灣監獄關懷，從此,逢年過節，慈濟志工都會到獄中送書送愛，讓受刑人感受社會溫情，擁有重生的力量。

2002年 度假天堂爆炸案 重創峇里島觀光
印尼巴里島觀光勝地 庫塔，在2002年這天發生三起爆炸案，一輛裝有強力炸彈的廂型車，在夜總會以及美國大使館前引爆，造成至少兩百人死亡，其中又以澳洲觀光客居多。

2007年 首屆本土志工營 深入慈濟人文
南非當地居民超過九十人，這天一起參加慈濟營隊，研習大愛感恩精神，以及慈濟行住坐臥禮儀，是慈濟在南非推展的重要里程碑。


11.小人物圓大夢 Round-the-world cycling honeymoon

After riding around Taiwan on his bicycle, keen cyclist Wang Qianquan persuaded his newly-wed wife to join him on a round-the-world trip. They quit their jobs, and set off on a marathon 28,000km journey that took the couple through 20 countries. Recently back from their epic journey, the pair shared their experiences with our reporter.

騎腳踏車繞著台灣環島一圈，喜歡騎單車的年輕人王前權，還說服了新婚一年的太太，一起騎著單車繞著地球跑，在兩年當中騎了兩萬八千公里，造訪了20個國家，最近，他們結束環島旅遊，要與我們分享他們的體驗。


12.半癱自立助人 Disability not end of the world

63-year-old Lin Zhenghong(林振弘) from Taichung, Taiwan, used to be a construction worker, until a work accident paralyzed him from the waist down. After contemplating suicide, Lin”s life took an upswing, when he started volunteering for the Taiwan”s Association for People with Disabilities and Tzu Chi. Now he has learned how to make coffee, which he sells for charity to help those in greater need.

台中市63歲的「林振弘」先生，曾經是建築工人，一場工作意外下半身癱瘓，多次想不開，直到接觸了身心障礙協會和慈濟，不但走出戶外做志工，還學習煮咖啡的專業技術，一有愛心活動，他就到現場義賣咖啡，所得全數捐出 幫助別人。
