Taking in the social pariahs - in Taiwan, Harmony Home”s Association provides refuge and care for children and infants living with suspected HIV infection.
Later, we turn the clock back to 1976, when the Tzu Chi Foundation took on the monumental task of making house calls to all of its care receiving families across Taiwan in one go.

Fire in Mong Kok

In Hong Kong”s Mong Kok district, Fa Yuen Street is a popular shopping destination for tourists. On Wednesday last week, a fire broke out early in the morning, causing nine deaths and 30 injuries. Tzu Chi volunteers immediately mobilized to care for the fire victims, and also put together 50 blankets for the affected families.

Thai business coping with floods

Moving to Thailand, Siam Pacific Electric Wire and Cable company is the second largest communications and power cable supplier, and the second largest Taiwanese-owned business in the country. However, its 28-acre manufacturing facility just outside of Bangkok, could not escape the floods, and now managers are desperately trying to breathe life back into their factory.

Advanced team faces challenges

On Sunday, December 4, volunteers in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Pehn organized their first ever major distribution of aid. The recipients were victims of the recent flooding that inundated slum areas in the Chroy Chongva commune. Tzu Chi volunteers from Singapore and Malaysia came to help, but during preparations, the team had to overcome some challenges on the way. Apart from having to push through deep water to reach the victims, the volunteers had to fill out hundreds of distribution coupons in the Khmer language. Thankfully, the owner of a local factory offered her staff to help. (Ke-meer)

Life in flood area

Life was already very difficult for villagers in the Chroy Chongva commune, of Phnom Pehn, even before the floods. In one village between the Tonle Sap and Mekong rivers, 800 out of 1,300 households are poor. The average wage is only 50-80 US dollars a month. Already living in poverty, the villagers were hit very hard by the floods in September of this year. Some of the residents were forced to leave their homes, and are now living in temporary shelters.

Suspected AIDS babies need care

In Taiwan, babies suspected of living with HIV/AIDS can find refuge in Harmony Home”s Association. Most of the children there were infected through mother-to-child transmission of HIV. However, as long as they receive proper treatment, it is still possible for them to lead healthy lives.

World AIDS Day in Hualien

On the topic of HIV/AIDS, December 1st was World AIDS day. In Taiwan”s Hualien, the local health department spent the day helping raise public awareness of the disease, and how to prevent its transmission.

Rhythms Monthly photo exhibition

In recent years the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taiwan”s Changhua County has been inviting Tzu Chi”s Rhythms Monthly magazine to hold a photo exhibition in celebration of the New Year. In honor of the 100-year anniversary of the ROC, the theme of this year”s exhibition was ”Straits Across the World”. In addition to the exhibition, visitors were also treated to a tea and flower ceremony, marking the day as a culturally rich experience for all.

On this day, the 5 of December

1952 Big Smoke
Back in the 1950s, winter was a time for the people living in England to burn coal to keep warm. In London, the smoke from houses and the city”s numerous coal-fired power stations, coupled with anticyclone and windless conditions, led to the Great Smog of ”52. Beginning this day in 1952, the severe pollution lasted five days and claimed at least 12,000 lives. As a consequence, new environmental regulations were implemented to reduce air pollution.

1985 Int”l Volunteer Day
The United Nations declared December 5th as International Volunteer Day, which was first observed in 1985 to recognize volunteers for their contributions to humanity and to raise awareness of the importance of voluntary service. The day is celebrated in many countries around the world.

1993 Hunan flood aid
In China, early in the morning on this day in 1993, some 40 military trucks carrying blankets and bearing banners saying ”Taiwan Tzu Chi, Aid to Hunan” headed to the flooded Miao Autonomous Region in Hunan to give aid to disaster victims. The convoy of more than 100 People”s Liberation Army soldiers was unprecedented. In total, the roundtrip covered some 3,600 km, bringing much-needed aid to the Miao peoples.

1998 Tzu Chi in DR
In 1998, Hurricane George ripped through several countries in the Caribbean. US Tzu Chi volunteers went to the worst-hit Dominican Republic to survey the extent of the damage, and made La Romana their top priority for aid relief. On this day in 1998, caregivers returned to the garbage dump community with rice, cooking oil and other daily necessities, and also held free clinics for the hurricane victims. The Tzu Chi-La Romana Liaison Office opened the next year, along with the construction of a school that would help uplift the poor community.

Nationwide home visitations

In its first ten years, the Tzu Chi Foundation sought out low-income households throughout Taiwan to which it could provide financial assistance. In 1976, Master Cheng Yen led a group of volunteers on an island-round trip, to carry out home visitations to all of Tzu Chi”s care recipients, and to check if what the Foundation offered to them was adequate. The ten day trip was monumental in that it inspired Master Cheng Yen to build a hospital for the poor.

Recycling volunteer learns to relax

Tzu Chi”s annual year-end blessing ceremonies are going on around Taiwan at the moment. Last week, in the Yonghe district of New Taipei City, at the community event, one volunteer, Dai Meirong, told the audience a touching story of how she had at last found happiness after suffering for many years. Approaching 70 this year, Dai says volunteering for Tzu Chi turned her life around, but a misunderstanding almost stopped her from joining the organization.

Finally today, we stay in New Taipei City, but move to Zhonghe”s Jing Si Hall. As it was the first time for a year-end blessing ceremony to take place at the establishment, kitchen volunteers worked around the clock several days on end to make sure all the guests were treated with tasty vegetarian selections. We”ll leave you with these images. Thank you for watching Da Ai Headlines. Goodbye.

First up in the show, the Tzu Chi disaster relief team held a consolation cash distribution in Taga City of Miyagi Prefecture, for Japan”s March 11th tsunami and quake victims. Many locals joined the event as a way to help their compatriots. Volunteers also took the time to explain the origins of Tzu Chi to the participants, to give them a better understanding of the NGO.

Helping those in need

Tzu Chi”s charitable mission in Vietnam”s Ho Chi Minh city is also going strong with its monthly visits to care recipients. 4. Medical supply shortage

Flooding in Thailand has been ongoing for more than three months now, forcing many factories, including Thailand”s pharmaceutical factories, to close down. To help the Thai government cope with the crisis, Tzu Chi sent from Taiwan 30,000 bags of saline, 60,000 sets of IV kits, and enough dialysis solution to treat over 10,000 patients.

Volunteers under flood pressure

The slow-moving tsunami of flooding in Thailand is proving to be a stamina test for local Tzu Chi volunteers. Since the floodwater gradually started to rise three months ago, the volunteers have not topped their aid effort, sometimes wading through swamped streets to bring food, drinking water, and other supplies to emergency shelter residents. In our next item from Thailand, we find out how Bangkok volunteers are coping with the stress.

Post-flood business opportunities

Staying in Thailand, in the continuation of our series of in-depth reports from the troubled country, we investigate what new business opportunities the flood has given rise to, and how the Thai people have adapted to their waterlogged lives. Although many shops have closed down due to the deluge, new businesses like taxi boats are taking over the flooded streets. Things like sandbags, rain wear and rubber rafts are also selling like hot cakes. We go to Bangkok to find out more.

Happy 9th anniversary TIMA

The Tzu Chi International Medical Association, or TIMA for short, came to Indonesia in 2002. This year, the chapter is celebrating its 9th birthday. Over the years, these selfless doctors, nurses and volunteers have carried out 79 free clinics. 8. Free clinic expands services

Moving to Singapore, in 2004, the local Tzu Chi chapter held its first free clinic for the poor in Chinatown. Four years later, on November 1st of 2008, the clinic relocated to Bukit Merah community where it continues to serve the needy till this day. In order to meet the increasing demand by the community, the clinic expanded its Chinese Medicine outpatient service to five days a week. We join the celebrations in our next report.

Coming up in today”s show, Tzu Chi volunteers in Indonesia deliver aid to victims of the flooding in Sumatra.
We start a new series of in-depth reports on the flooding in Thailand, which has been called the slow-moving tsunami.
And we look back on the history of the publication of the sayings of Master Cheng Yen, 22 years after the first book of Jing Si Aphorisms.

●今天的提要,印尼慈濟志工為蘇門答臘水患居民帶來物資援助;
●一開始帶大家來看泰國水患的深入報導,被稱為慢海嘯的水患;

West Sumatra battered by heavy rain
Biannual free clinic in N California
Flood situation in depth
Filipino volunteer makes dream trip
Japanese student says ”thank you”
Wang Zhang and his wife

West Sumatra battered by heavy rain

We start today”s show in Indonesia, where days of heavy rain at the beginning of the month forced over 50,000 people to abandon their homes in West Sumatra”s Pesisir Selatan - or South Coastal regency. In the immediate aftermath, Tzu Chi volunteers in Padang carried out a disaster survey and small aid distributions. Aware that victims were still struggling to cope, the volunteers returned to the area many times, bringing rice, water, cooking oil and clothing for the needy families.

Biannual free clinic in N California

People from poor and migrant communities in the United States, who lack medical insurance, often have little hope of seeing a doctor. That”s why Tzu Chi”s chapter in Northern California holds a twice-yearly free clinic, aimed at members of the Hispanic community. At the most recent event, doctors saw a total of 258 cases. Partnering Tzu Chi at the clinic this time was a local hospital, which offered free hepatitis B checks for the residents.

To respect life, we must use our time well for the benefit of humankind.

Flood situation in depth

Flooding in Thailand has paralyzed the country for more than three months. Described as a ”slow-moving tsunami”, the water flowed from the north to the south of the country, affecting around 63 provinces, and threatening the administrative and financial center of Bangkok. Starting today, we”ll be bringing you a series of in-depth reports on the slow-moving tsunami, beginning in the capital city.

Filipino volunteer makes dream trip

We”ll have more on the thorny issues brought up by the flooding in Thailand tomorrow. But back to today. After receiving help from Tzu Chi in the aftermath of Typhoon Ketsana in 2009, Nanilita Alburo, from the Philippines, signed up as a volunteer, and vowed to save up enough money to visit Taiwan to see Master Cheng Yen. After a year and a half, of vegetarian meals and saving half her salary, Nanilita”s dream came true.

Japanese student says ”thank you”

Taiwan donated more money to Japan after the March 11 disaster than any other country in the world. The generosity surprised many Japanese people, and inspired one student to make a visit to Taiwan to show his appreciation.

The sky is yours when you know how to bend low. Buddhism is the study of Buddha”s selflessness and universal love, and how that love reaches all corners of the world. Buddhists should humble themselves for a life with no limits.

Wang Zhang and his wife

Our next story is about a life of limitless tolerance and patience. Wang Zhang(王掌), from central Taiwan, accompanies his wife, who suffers from dementia, to rehabilitation classes every day. Although this takes up most of his free time, the 78-year-old says marriage is a lifelong commitment.

Age-friendly Tzu Chi hospitals

To help seniors enjoy their golden years, institutions in Taiwan are working towards becoming more ”age-friendly”. Recently, Hualien, Yuli and Dalin Tzu Chi Hospitals all won certificates for being ”Friendly Facilities for Senior Citizens”. Let”s see how they did it.

Aid for 722 families in Choluteca

We start today”s show in Central America, where flooding brought down by heavy rains from a tropical depression, has affected over a million people, leaving hundreds of thousands displaced and in dire need of help. In Honduras, Tzu Chi”s disaster assessment team held its second major distribution of aid, on Sunday November 13, in the southern region of Choluteca city. The event went without a hitch, and a total of 722 householders collected much-needed supplies. At the distribution site, you could see many elderly residents - grandmothers and grandfathers - who had come to pick up their bags of food; while their younger relatives stayed at home instead of coming out to help. Local volunteers said, in Honduras, the young generation tend not to respect their elders. So, Mr. Zhang Hongcai from Tzu Chi made it his personal mission to look after the seniors.

Shelter turned into spiritual center

From Honduras to Thailand, which has also been hard hit by flooding for several months. Although the water is gradually receding, many areas, including large parts of Bangkok, are still submerged in water. The government turned its Administrative Center, in the capital”s Laksi district, into an emergency shelter, and now Tzu Chi volunteers are doing their best to make it a spiritual training ground. Besides setting up a soup kitchen, the volunteers also arranged a series of activities, to help the younger people look at their parents in a different light.

38 families displaced by fire

In the Filipino capital of Manila, a fire broke out in the Nangka district of Marikina City, burning down 11 homes and damaging 11 others. In total, 38 families were displaced. Among the victims were some Tzu Chi volunteers, who went to help their neighbors before attending to their own needs. Fellow volunteers soon arrived, on the very night of the blaze, with aid for everyone.

After helping others for a year, the Tzu Chi community clinic in Wilmington, California, celebrated its first anniversary. 8. Battling rare disease

Some rare diseases can change the victim”s appearance, which often results in discrimination. Ichthyosis patients, who have scaly or flaky skin, can suffer from isolation, and live in the knowledge that there is no cure for their condition. Many people are too scared to approach them, for fear of catching the disease, which is actually non-infectious. So, at a recent celebration, for persons with disabilities in Taiwan, the organizers took the opportunity to raise awareness of ichthyosis.

(2) Know your plastics

Taiwan used to be known for its cheap plastic products, but in May of this year, the country hit the international headlines over the plasticizer scandal, after toxic chemicals were found in a number of food products. However, we could be ingesting plasticizers - which are used to make plastic soft and flexible - by misusing the containers, cling film and other products that contain type-3 PVC. If heated, PVC can breakdown, and release chemicals, including any added plasticizers, into our food.

1st Tzu Chi flood relief since Mitch

On Saturday, November 12, the Tzu Chi disaster assessment team in Honduras helped distribute food to 1,200 flood-affected families in the municipality of Marcovia, in Choluteca department. Each 26kg bag of supplies contained corn-flour, rice, beans, sugar, and salt. Thirteen years ago, when Hurricane Mitch hit Central America, Tzu Chi volunteers from the USA went to Honduras to hand out aid. After the recent flooding, they are back again, this time only to find that they are outnumbered by local volunteers.

Tzu Chi lifeline for Bangkok residents

Next we move to Thailand, a country also gravely affected by flood. Tzu Chi volunteers continue to be a lifeline for victims displaced by the flooding, who are sheltering at the government”s Administration Center in Bangkok”s Laksi district, and the surrounding area. Recently a group of children brought their enthusiasm and energy to the volunteering effort; their presence added a familial warmth to the shelter.

A total of over 7,500 households benefited from the distributions, which were entirely organized by local volunteers. A day before the event, volunteers were still recruiting helping hands for the large-scale handout. Despite the shortage of volunteers, the events still went smoothly. In the next story we go to Tagajo City, to meet a few volunteering locals, who even called on friends to help their compatriots together.

Aid for flood-hit Angono

Several typhoons ripped through the Philippines, more than a month ago, causing severe flooding in many areas. To reach out to those affected, Tzu Chi organized aid distributions in Calumpit, in Bulacan Province. The latest mission took place in Angono, in Rizal Province, which was flooded by a nearby lake during the typhoon. A total of 2,100 families received Tzu Chi”s provisions, which will help them through the aftermath of the disaster.

Helping 76-year-old Zeng Yanying

In addition to serving the public at Singapore”s Tzu Chi Free Health Screening and Medical Clinic, staff also makes house calls to the elderly. During one of these visits volunteers discovered diabetes sufferer, Zeng Yanying(曾雁英). The 76-year-old lives in a filthy home and suffers from sores on her legs and feet. Seeing her situation, TIMA staff called together 35 volunteers to help clean up. After working for seven hours straight, volunteers transformed the home, while also inspiring neighbors along the way.

Healing young minds

The impact of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan continues to take its toll on the survivors, through post-traumatic stress disorder. Last week, we found out that the elderly are more vulnerable to stress after a disaster. Today, we look at another section of the population - the children. Young children can suffer from emotional trauma two years after a natural disaster.

Scholarship funds for needy students

Recently, 86 Tzu Chi volunteers from all over China went to Yichun宜春, in northwest Jiangxi province, to hand out scholarship funds and teach local children Jing Si aphorisms. Unlike previous years when the scholarship was only awarded at a formal ceremony, this time Tzu Chi volunteers handed the money to student aid recipients during their home visitations, so the money can be put to use immediately.

Water Repentance in San Dimas

Last Sunday at the Tzu Chi US Headquarters in San Dimas, California, 509 performers came together, from all over the West Coast, for the first major evaluation of the Water Repentance musical. This was the first gathering of all the actors since the sutra study group began in May.

Special 30th anniversary present

Among the 509 performers we just saw in the last story, is the couple Feng Wenyou and Bai Xuefeng. The pair has been married for 30 years, and loves celebrating their anniversaries, sometimes in lavish ways. But this year Feng Wenyou came up with an unusual present for his wife. Let”s find out what it was.(馮文佑以及白雪鳳)

Welcome to Da Ai Headlines. I”m Leeway Tsai. Thank you for joining us.

Coming up in the show, undaunted by Zimbabwe”s civil unrest and economic instability, Tzu Chi volunteers are still going strong with their charity programs.
In our featured report from Japan, we look at the prefabricated housing communities that are especially designed to accommodate elderly people.
Later, we go to Malaysia, where kindergarteners are not only studying the Buddhist classic, Water Repentance, but also performing the sutra using sign language and songs.

Tzu Chi makes its presence felt

At the Thai government”s administrative center in the Laksi district of Bangkok, which has been turned into a temporary shelter for flood victims, Tzu Chi volunteers continue to do their best to support those affected by the country”s worst flooding in 50 years. Their unselfish giving has inspired an increasing number of residents at the shelter to donate their time to help with cooking and cleaning. Volunteers are also preparing to help people in a nearby community, who are facing a serious lack of food and water.

Tzu Chi began in 2008

In the politically and economically unstable country of Zimbabwe, life for most of the population is difficult. Even with money, locals won”t necessarily find food to buy. Four volunteers began carrying out Tzu Chi”s work in 2008, and since then, have held over 50 distributions, and inspired over 70 locals to contribute.

Home comforts in prefab community

In our continuing series of reports from northeast Japan, we investigate what life is like for old people, who are living in prefabricated homes. Japan has the most serious population-aging problem in Asia. The situation is even more in the countryside. Previous experience shows that the elderly suffer from depression and ill-health in the aftermath of earthquakes, so this time around, the Japanese government is trying even harder to keep its seniors happy and health.

Children”s goodness inspired

Taichung”s Xinshe(新社) Elementary School was rebuilt by Tzu Chi, after Taiwan”s 921 earthquake of 1999. In the years after the quake, the school has kept up its weekly Jing Si aphorism classes, and in turn inspired goodness in the hearts of the students. For example, second-grader Xu Lengya徐稜雅 decided to save her pocket money for those in need after participating in World Vision”s 30 hour famine program.

Teaching children Water Repentance

Moving to Malaysia, the Da Ai Educare center in Malacca has been instructing students on the Water Repentance Sutra since July of this year. In addition to discussion groups on the meaning of the sutra, teachers also guide the students through the movements of the musical. After four months of practice, the students can now recite sections of the sutra flawlessly, and have also learned on how to reflect on their actions.

Lessons in a wheel pie

For many people, making a career change in midlife requires more than just courage, but also the ability to view life in a more philosophical way. In our next story, we meet Tzu Chi volunteer Yang Wende, who, due to unexpected reasons, left his job at a bank, and started selling wheel pies. The experience that not only gave him an insight into life, but also offered him the perfect opportunity to introduce Tzu Chi to his customers.

90-year-old hospital volunteer

Someone who learned to do the right thing a long time ago is 90-year-old Mrs. Chen Huang Jinse(陳黃金色) who was among the first generation of volunteers at Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital, and still regularly serves at the hospital today. The wise and kindly old lady is known affectionately to everyone as ”Sister Miaomiao(妙妙)”.

Coming up in today”s show, members of the Tzu Chi disaster assessment team, in Thailand, give television interviews on how to recover from the flood.
In our continuing series of feature reports on rebuilding work in Japan, we find out what life is like for a 90-year-old resident of a temporary home.
And, on this day in 2002, the TIMA chapter in Indonesia was officially formed. We look back on the history of Tzu Chi”s free medical clinics in the country.

Flood coverage

First up today, we go to Thailand, where aid agencies are afraid that infectious diseases, spread by the flood waters, could cause a humanitarian crisis. The flooding is the worst the country has suffered in decades, and is likely to drag on for another month. Members of the Tzu Chi disaster assessment team, who are currently in the country, recently appeared on Thai television, to encourage the public to reach out a helping hand to their neighbors. But just getting to the TV station proved to be a challenge. Let”s go to Bangkok, to find out how they did it.

Life in prefab community

From Thailand to Japan, where after the tsunami destroyed their homes on March 11th this year, many survivors have been living in prefabricated housing communities. In our next story, we go back to the upper northern area of Miyagi Prefecture, to meet 90-year-old Mrs. Misako, who lives alone in one of the temporary units. However, the optimistic woman says, her son lives nearby, and she is used to looking after herself. Indeed, she escaped the tsunami all by herself. Although her future is uncertain, Mrs. Misako says, at her age, she can only take each day as it comes.

TIMA free clinic in Miaoli

Central Taiwan TIMA volunteers regularly visit remote mountain areas in Miaoli County, to hold free clinics for elderly residents. As well as treating chronic complaints, the volunteers say they also make connections with the locals. On their latest trip to Nanzhuang, one grandmother signed up as a paying member of Tzu Chi.

Giving without thought of return

”Giving without thought of return” is the motto of Zhang Xinyu(張信語), from Changhua County in Taiwan. Instead of staying at home and enjoying her role as a grandmother, she grows magnolias in her garden to sell at the market. And what she earns from peddling the flowers, she donates to charity. Passionate about her fundraising work, Zhang Xinyu says that giving is better than receiving.

Blessing & Wisdom envelopes

With New Year just around the corner, volunteers around Taiwan are picking up the pace of their work to make Tzu Chi”s signature ”Blessing and Wisdom” envelopes. At the Tzu Chi Liaison Office in Taipei”s Songshan District, one elderly volunteer commutes an hour each way to come help; while another has come all the way from Germany, to better understand how making these envelopes brings people together.

As we just saw in our history feature, the Indonesia TIMA chapter was formed on this day in 2002. Over the years, its membership has grown from 60, to now over 300. As of October this year, TIMA Indonesia had held 79 free clinics, all over the country, and treated over 200,000 cases. In our next story, we look back at the chapter”s years of service.

Behind each Tzu Chi free clinic

For every TIMA free clinic, numerous volunteers invest hours preparing all the necessary equipment; and when the event is over, they spend just as much time cleaning and sterilizing the tools, and putting them back in place. In our next story, we meet one such volunteer, Shen Juanjuan(申娟娟) who is a member of the Tainan TIMA chapter.

Bolstering immune system for winter

Tuesday marked the beginning of winter in Taiwan. As the weather starts getting colder, with the temperature dipping to below 20 degrees Celsius at times, many sun-loving people in Taiwan are looking to tonics, to bolster their immune system. Adding traditional herbs to make rich soups is one way to nourish the body. The experts suggest adding root vegetables, like yams and sweet potatoes, along with some mushrooms and tofu, to make the soup more hearty.

Bangkok still in harm”s way

Thailand”s worst flood in 50 years has paralyzed the country for several months now, and the waters are now threatening Bangkok”s city center. Plans have been made to divert water away from the capital and speed up drainage. As one Da Ai reporter finds out, the waters flood in at a surprisingly speed, and while warnings have long been issued by the government, many locals still chose to flee their homes just before the flood hit their doorsteps.

Establishing a soup kitchen

To help ease the worries of Thai flood victims taking shelter in a government”s administrative center in Bangkok, Tzu Chi volunteers lead them in group activities, and are helping them find spiritual peace through studying Jing Si Aphorisms. In addition, volunteers have also set up a soup kitchen to feed flood victims.

Preparing for 2-day distributions

Also affected by floods is Honduras, where lots of people have been out of work, with many factories closed down. To address the situation, Tzu Chi plans to hold a two day aid distribution on the 12th and 13th of this month, in the cities of Morcavia and Choluteca, to help 2,000 of the hardest hit households. At present US Tzu Chi volunteers are in Morcavia looking for a suitable distribution site.

Turkish aid team reports to Jing Si Abode

Eastern Turkey was rattled by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake on October 23. Tzu Chi volunteers flew from Istanbul to the worst-hit province of Van on October 26 to assess the damage. 5. Surveying quake damage in Van

As well as reporting on the disaster situation, Tzu Chi”s volunteers from Turkey, Yu Zicheng余自成 and Hu Guangzhong胡光中, brought back film footage of quake-hit Van. The huge earthquake caused at least 600 deaths. The volunteers discovered that the number of damaged buildings may be much higher than the official estimate.

Helping hungry flood victims

Tzu Chi volunteers in Honduras, recently reached the municipality of Marcovia, in Choluteca department. The area has been hard-hit by flooding. The local government has run of aid supplies, and thousands of households are low on food. Tzu Chi is planning a distribution on November 11th and 12th, to help residents through this difficult time.

Distribution in Chiquimulilla

The other disaster assessment team to travel from the US to Central America went to Guatemala. On Sunday, representatives from over 2,000 families, from 21 villages traveled, to a warehouse in Chiquimulilla to pick up food supplies from Tzu Chi. Despite the huge number of people, the distribution went smoothly.

Tzu Chi”s aid continues

Turning ideals into action in Thailand, Tzu Chi volunteers continued to provide hot meals for flood victims sheltering in Bangkok”s Administration Center.
