Coming up in today`s top stories, Tzu Chi volunteers in Southern Taiwan, tend to those affected by a gas explosion in Xinyuan(新園) Township of Pingtung(屏東) County.

In today feature report on products made in Taiwan, we visit Changhua`s(彰化) Shetou(社頭) Township, to witness the transformation of a traditional industry.

And, in Indonesia, Tzu Chi volunteers regularly visit a local nursing home, to hold free clinics and provide hair cut and nail trimming services.

今天的MIT藍海策略專題中,來到彰化社頭,見證這裡傳統行業的轉變

接著在印尼,慈濟志工定期訪視養老院,為院友舉辦義診和義剪以及剪指甲服務


1.新園氣爆愛接力Tending to burn victim

First up in Taiwan, in Pingtung`s Xinyuan(新園) Township, a gas explosion occurred in a residential building at around 6pm on March 18th. The owner of the house, Mr. Wu suffered second to third degree burns, to 40 percent of his body and is still in the intensive care unit at the Kaohsiung Armed Forces General Hospital. Upon learning of the news, Tzu Chi volunteers arrived to comfort his family members.

首先,在台灣,屏東新園18日晚間6點多的民宅發生氣爆事故,受傷的吳姓屋主全身百分之四十,有二到三度的燒燙傷,現在還在高雄海軍總醫院的加護病房,慈濟志工接獲消息即前往關懷。


2.廣州助學Helping students pursue their studies

To help students from impoverished families pursue their studies, Tzu Chi volunteers arrived at the Guangzhou(廣州) University of Chinese Medicine to hand out scholarships. Meanwhile, volunteers also visited the homes of students from Qingyuan(清遠) First Middle School, to better understand their living conditions.

為了幫助家境貧困的孩子安心求學,慈濟志工到廣州中醫藥大學頒發助學金,同樣在廣州 ,志工對清遠一中的學生進行家庭訪視,進一步了解他們的家境。


3.廈門中學環保Campaign for zero leftovers

Staying in China, each day at Xiamen`s(廈門) Ma-xiang(馬巷) Junior High School, 80 percent of the student does not finish the food on their plate. Seeing this, the principal invited Tzu Chi volunteers to spread the message of eating 80 percent full and saving the remaining 20 percent for those in need.

在中國廈門的馬巷中學,每天有將近80百分比的學生都會產生廚餘,校長為了要解決這個狀況,邀請慈濟志工來跟學生宣導八分飽,兩分助人好,零廚餘的觀念。


4.MIT藍海策略(2)The sock industry

Today, in our series of feature reports on ”A Blueprint for MIT”, we visit the homeland of Taiwan`s sock industry- in Shetou(社頭) Township, Changhua(彰化) County- to see how this traditional industry has been transformed, by the introduction of newer technologies and designs into production lines.

今天專題報導,MIT藍海策略,我們來到台灣襪子的故鄉,彰化縣社頭鄉,來看看這邊的人是如何利用科技,以及設計,來轉變這個傳統產業。


5.馬建築交流Education Center & Dialysis Center

As the Malaysia Tzu Chi Chapter is working towards, the construction of its education center and dialysis center, the building council committee from Taiwan once again visited the site on March 18th, with suggestions to ensure the new centers will be able to fulfill their role, as a spiritual and environmental refuge.

慈濟馬來西亞分會,正在籌建教育中心和整修洗腎中心,台灣慈濟建築委員會,特地在3月18日前往修建地,並提供建議希望能建造出具備修行、環保的場所。


6.植物生病了Plant hospital in Hsinchu

When people get sick, they see a doctor. But what about plants? In Hsinchu (新竹), Taiwan, a well known plant hospital was established in the local community. Within, plant doctors not only help local residents heal their sick plants, but also take in unwanted or abandoned plants and nurture them back to life.

人生病了可以看醫生,那植物呢?在台灣新竹有一家植物醫院,這裡的醫生不但幫居民醫治他們生病的植物,並收容棄養的植物,讓它們在這裡重新找回新生命。


7.印養老院義診Volunteers visit senior home

In Indonesia, Tzu Chi volunteers regularly visit the Ka-ri-tas Nursing Home every two months, to care for the elderly residents there. Besides holding free clinics, volunteers will give the seniors a hair cut and trim their nails.

印尼慈濟志工每二個月定期前往卡利達斯養老院,進行關懷,除了安排義診,也為長者剪頭髮修剪指甲。


8.親子班訪教養院Parent & child class field trip

Back to Taiwan, in Taoyuan`s(桃園) Xintai(新泰) District, the Tzu Chi parent-and-child class went on a field trip, to a nursing home for children with special needs. By taking these students outdoor for a sun bath and feeding them delicious desserts, volunteers managed to put a smile of each of their faces.

回到台灣,在桃園新泰區,慈濟親子成長班的家長與孩子來到教養院關懷,藉由這次的遠足,也在志工的引導下,大家很快就打成一片。


9.新店陽光關懷Caring for burn victims

Moving to Taipei, in Xindian(新店) District, the Sunshine Social Welfare Foundation Rehabilitation Center is a halfway house for burn victims, to carry out rehabilitative therapy. As part of their care for these victims, Tzu Chi volunteers pay regular visits to encourage them through their recovery.

轉到台北,新店陽光之家是燒燙傷友的中途之家,傷友在這裡進行居家復健,慈濟志工更是定期前來關懷,鼓勵傷友持續復健。


10.達拉斯培訓Understanding the Medical Mission

In Texas of the United States, at a volunteer training seminar, Wang Mingyan(王銘彥), who is in charge of the Medical Mission at the Tzu Chi Dallas Chapter, shared with fellow volunteers, the honorable role of a Silent Mentor.

在美國德州達拉斯一場培訓課程,負責達拉斯分會醫療志業的王銘彥志工,分享無語良師的故事。

Back to Indonesia at the end of the show, at the Pantai Indah Kapuk Tzu Chi Elementary School in North Jakarta; to help students learn the meaning behind filial piety, teachers invited their parents to school, and asked students to give them a massage and hand therapy.
