●As Mother”s Day draws near, Tzu Chi volunteers around the world get ready to also celebrate Buddha Day; we check out preparations in Tzu Chi offices across Asia.

●And, 16 Tzu Chings from northern California who will be graduating soon are treated to a graduation banquet at the local Tzu Chi office.

1.緬甸稻種發放

Myanmar”s Thanlyin Township in Yangon Province experienced flooding last year which resulted in a poor harvest for local farmers. To help, in April, Tzu Chi volunteers carried out an assessment to better understand the needs of these residents and recently returned to hand out rice seedlings to 2,068 families from nine villages.

在緬甸仰光省的丹茵鎮，去年雨季因為河水高漲，使得農作物被淹沒，為了協助這些農夫，4月時，慈濟志工展開勘災活動，以便了解居民的需求，之後舉行發放，將稻種送到9個村裡的2068戶家庭。

2.美侖書軒四周年

Back to Taiwan, the Jing Si Books and Cafe located inside the Parkview Hotel in Huanlien celebrated its 4th anniversary. To mark the occasion Tzu Chi volunteers invited hotel guests to enjoy a music concert and immerse themselves in a rich selection of Jing Si publications.

轉到台灣，花蓮美侖飯店內的靜思書軒，最近慶祝四週年，特別舉辦了一場音樂會，邀請大家聆聽好音樂，和一同沉浸在書香中。


3.志護張秀麗

Residents of Taiwan”s Hualien, Zhang Xiuli”s張秀麗 family has been under Tzu Chi”s wing since Xiuli was small. Determined to one day reciprocate the love she has received, Xiuli decided to enroll in the Tzu Chi College of Technology to become a nurse. She will soon graduate and join the local Tzu Chi Hospital in June.

張秀麗一家人住在台灣花蓮，從秀麗小時候就是慈濟的照顧戶，從小就決定要回饋社會的秀麗，決定就讀慈濟技術學院的護理系，要成為一位護士，不久後她就要畢業，將加入花蓮慈願服務。

4.2012浴佛總彩

Sunday, May 13, Tzu Chi volunteers around the world will be observing a tri-celebration of Mother”s Day, Buddha Day and Global Tzu Chi Day. For the past few years in Taipei, Tzu Chi”s Buddha Day ceremony has been taking place in Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, and this year is no exception.On Sunday, May 6, more than 10,000 volunteers gathered at the venue for the last rehearsal. All persisted with the run-through despite the searing temperature.

5月13日周日，就是佛誕節、母親節、全球慈濟日，三節合一，慈濟基金會每年都會在中正紀念堂舉行浴佛大典，而今年也是如此，5月6日週日，超過一萬名志工，來到中正紀念堂總彩排，大家依舊不畏烈日，把握時間加緊練習。


5.馬浴佛準備(四)

Moving on to Malaysia”s Kuala Lumpur, thanks to his son”s participation in the 2010 Buddha Day Ceremony, Chen Fu (陳福) who suffered a stroke twice and his wife were inspired to join Tzu Chi. Till this day, the family is committed to Tzu Chi”s mission. We find out more.

鏡頭轉到馬來西亞吉隆玻，慈濟志工陳福，曾經兩次中風，因為兒子參加2010年浴佛典禮的因緣，跟太太一起加入了慈濟，直到今天 一家人依舊十分發心，一起來看看。


6.星浴佛邀約

Like their counterparts across the world, Tzu Chi volunteers in Singapore have been preparing for the upcoming Buddha Day celebration. This year, volunteers have gathered a total of 1920 people to join together to hold up cards that will spell out both the number 46-which represents the age of Tzu Chi-and two bodhi trees leaves which represents the Buddha.

就像其他國家的慈濟人一樣，新加坡的慈濟志工，用心籌劃即將到來的浴佛節，今年新加坡分會動員1920人，排成46數字和兩片菩提葉的圖騰，代表慈濟46周年及佛教的象徵。


7.印浴佛宣導

Tzu Chi”s Indonesia Chapter will be holding this year”s Buddha Day ceremony at their Jing Si Hall in North Jakarta. To promote the event, Tzu Chi volunteers used their time after work to go door to door to hand out brochures. Volunteers hope to invite more people to do good deeds and better understand the meaning behind the ceremony.

慈濟印尼分會即將在北雅加達，卡布新村靜思堂舉行浴佛典禮，為了推廣這次的活動，慈濟志工特地利用下班時間，挨家挨戶發傳單、做宣導，志工們希望邀請更多人，一起做善事，並了解浴佛儀式背後的意義。


《 衲履足跡 》談浴佛 On Buddha Day

For Tzu Chi, every year the Buddha Day ceremony is a special day to gather everyone”s faithful hearts. However, standing for a long time may decrease ones faithfulness. Master Cheng Yen hoped everyone who joined the ceremony could earn happiness and carry it on.

全球慈濟浴佛大典，是每年例行的殊勝典禮，要凝聚大家最虔誠的心，但是久站疲倦難免消磨虔誠心。希望能做到只要讓人接觸到了，就起歡喜心，也讓它能長久存在。


8.蘇環保沙鈴

In Suzhou, China, Tzu Chi volunteers have become experts at using recycled materials to create new and unusual items and toys. Whether it is for children or to help bring excitement to an event, these items can be seen at almost every Tzu Chi sponsored activities. Let”s take a look.

在蘇州，慈濟人利用回收物，創造出又新、又獨特的物品以及玩具，不管是給孩子玩，或是為活動增添歡樂的物品，都在不同的訪視場合，發揮大大的用途，一起來看看。


9.東莞環保愛灑

Staying in China but moving on to Guangdong Province, recently, Dongguan”s Tzu Chi volunteers visited the Junior Oxford Bilingual School to share their knowledge on conservation work. Through a video clip and a stage play by the volunteers, the students realized that environmental protection cannot wait.

也是中國的報導，鏡頭轉到廣東東莞，慈濟志工來到小牛津國際學校，宣導環保，慈濟志工透過做環保的影片，以及行動劇，讓學生了解環保是刻不容緩的事情。


10.北加慈青畢業

In the United States, college students are getting ready to graduate. To help send off the graduating Tzu Chings in northern California , the local Tzu Chi office recently held a banquet. Here”s more.

美國又將進入畢業的季節，北加州慈濟志工，特地為16位應屆畢業慈青，舉辦了一場感恩餐會，一起來看看。


11.越活越美麗

As Taiwan becomes an aging society, how do seniors plan their golden years? In her latest book, Taiwanese writer Jian Wan (簡宛) interviewed six women over the age of 50, including tea dye master Lai Fengqin賴鳳琴, dance teacher Li Xin李昕. The women spoke about how they found new lives through their professions and hope to inspire others to live their lives to the fullest regardless of their age.

台灣逐漸邁入高齡化的社會，銀髮族該如何做生涯規劃，讓生活更精彩？台灣作家簡宛採訪，六位五十歲以上的女性，包括茶染達人賴鳳琴，舞蹈老師李昕等，介紹他們如何在工作崗位上，活出自己，透過他們的故事也希望，啟發更多人讓生活，過得更有價值。

1.美暴動二十年

April 29th was the 20th anniversary of Los Angeles South Central Riots. Sparked by the unfair trial against four LA police officers who beat up black motorist Rodney King, the city saw widespread lootings and violence for six days. To remember this dark event, and promote racial harmony, Korean Churches for Community Development organized a memorial. Religious and community leaders and NGOs were invited, including the Tzu Chi Foundation.

4月29日，是洛杉磯暴動二十周年紀念，當初因為四位洛杉磯警察毆打，黑人駕駛羅德尼 金 受審，卻因為爭議性的宣判引發了，全面性的搶劫、暴動、縱火、謀殺，為了紀念這黑暗的六天，並推廣種族和平相處，韓國教會KCCD在前奧運會場，舉辦紀念會並邀請社區領導，與各宗教團體一起參與 包括慈濟。


2.菲兩場火災
Moving to the Philippines, on April 13th the cities of Pasay and Manila both experienced fires that displaced 96 households. Thankfully there were no casualties. After the disaster, Tzu Chi volunteers quickly mobilized a relief distribution, bringing supplies and emotional comfort to the victims.

來到菲律賓，四月十三號巴西市和，馬尼拉市兩處發生大火，造成96戶無家可歸，幸好無人員傷亡，火災後慈濟志工，立即前往進行發放，帶給災民物資和心靈上的鼓勵。


3.南非合心營
Volunteers, who are always be on standby to help, regularly attend workshops to better their understanding of service work. One such seminar was recently held in Johannesburg, South Africa, for more than 100 participants, some of whom came all the way from Zimbabwe and Lesotho.

志工總是無處不在，幫助他人，合心共識營，就是精進服務工作的研習營，這樣的活動，就在在南非約堡舉辦，有來自辛巴威以及賴索托，共一百位志工參與。


4.八分飽(四)賴水樹
Next, we meet another volunteer whose life was also enlightened by joining Tzu Chi. Lai Shuishu (賴水樹) from Taichung, Taiwan, retired at an early age of 42, and lived a life of luxury. However, after both his parents passed away, and seeing for himself the selfless spirit of Tzu Chi”s work, Lai was inspired and joined volunteer”s ranks.

接下來也來認識一位志工，生命因為加入慈濟而不同，住在台中的慈濟志工賴水樹，四十二歲就退休，並開始享受人生，不過在父母相繼往生，並看到慈濟志工無所求付出的精神，賴水樹深受感動，決定投入志工的行列。

Excessive justification weakens relationships. When relationships are weakened, it becomes difficult to accomplish tasks together.

理講太多，情就薄；情感淡薄，事難成。


5.贏在起跑點4(胎兒)

In the last part of our child development series, ”One Step Ahead”, today we go endoscopic, to unlock the developmental issues of the fetal stage. According to experts, the mood of, and the kind of nutrients consumed by a pregnant woman have a direct impact on fetal development. Even the sound frequency of the parents” voices will be etched in prenatal memory. In the next report, we find out how to give a child a good head start, as early as from the fetal stage.

《 衲履足跡 》談佛誕節 On The Birth Of Buddha

The Buddha Day, Mother”s Day and Tzu Chi Day three celebrations in one is a big event for Tzu Chi. Aside from celebrating the birth of the Buddha, we need to remind ourselves that the Buddha once came into our world to guide us onto the right path. We need to be grateful and be diligent.

佛誕節、母親節、慈濟日三節合一，是慈濟每年一度的盛會，慶祝佛誕，除了要提醒自己，佛陀曾來到人間修行、成佛，為眾生指引方向，還要常懷感恩，精進不退。
6.師生捐髮

Summer is near in Taiwan, so recently teachers and students from an industrial vocational high school in Changhua donated their hair to aid cancer patients.

轉到台灣，夏季將至，員林崇實高工的師生，剪下長髮捐給癌症患者。


7.360製鞋師(1)
Next, we move to Chiayi for our continuing series on Taiwan”s sunset industries. We meet Li Muhai(李木海), who has been a cobbler for over 40 years. In addition to repairing shoes, deaf-mute Mr. Li also makes shoes to order. He has his own shop named ”the Silent Shoe Emporium” in reference to his disability. Let”s take a look at his story.

1.泰火災關懷126 households burned to the ground

First up, inThailand, on April 24th and 25th, fire tore through two slums in Bangkok, displacing 126 households. Tzu Chi volunteers arrived at the scene of the blaze, to hand out emergency cash and daily necessities like straw mats and blankets. One fire survivor carried on this relay of love by sharing the relief supplies with a homeless senior.

首先，轉到泰國，四月二十四和二十五日，曼谷裡的兩處貧民區發生火災，共有126戶受災，慈濟志工前往勘災，決定發放每戶現金，以及生活包、草蓆和毛毯，更有人立刻將物資轉贈給流浪街頭的老人。


2.簡院長華爾街Occupy Wall Street movement on May Day

On May 1st, International Worker”s Day, the Occupy Wall Street movement continued in the Big Apple. The protesters marched on the street to express their dissatisfaction toward issues such as high unemployment rates and the government”s ineffective financial policy. We have a report on the protest by Dalin Tzu Chi Hospital”s superintendent Dr. Jian Shouxin.

五月一號世界勞動日，在美國紐約延續去年占領華爾街的運動，表達對高失業率，政府金融紓困等議題的不滿，我們有正好在現場來自大林慈濟醫院院長簡守信的報導。


3.八分邱洪秀春(三)Tzu Chi volunteer Qiu Hong Xiuchun

When 76-year-old Qiu-Hong Xiuchun(邱洪秀春) was nine she lost her left leg to a train accident. Three years ago, Qiu, who lived alone in Taiwan”s Taichung, needed a new prosthetic leg, but was unable to afford the medical costs. The senior fell into deep depression and even contemplated suicide. Fortunately, neighbors notified Tzu Chi who helped the woman find the care she needed.

住在台中，今年七十六歲的邱洪秀春，年幼時因意外截肢，三年前，獨居的她需要新的義肢，不過籌不出醫療費用，她想不開，幾乎要自殺，還好鄰居通報了慈濟，適時伸出援手協助了她。


4.贏在起跑點(3)嬰兒Seeing is learning

In our featured series, ”One Step Ahead”, we looked at what parents should or should not do to aid the development of toddlers and school-age children. One overriding point is that parents should take into consideration the interest and personality of the young individual, and provide help accordingly. Today, we find out what external factors infants are more sensitive to in terms of their visual development, and how the things they see will help stimulate the growth of the brain and its cognitive ability. Here is more.

贏在起跑點專題，這幾天探討了國小、幼兒階段孩子的教育方法，我們發現最重要的教養還是要適合孩子的興趣與個性，今天我們要探討嬰兒階段，視覺的發展、以及刺激發展的因素，寶寶眼裡所看到的，也會幫助大腦發展認知力，一起來看看。


5.關山潘添財Treating patients like family

In eastern Taiwan”s Taitung, now 82-year-old senior Pan Tiencai(潘添財) was admitted to Guanshan Tzu Chi Hospital 3 years ago due to an auto accident, which left him in a wheelchair. However, the senior never let the accident get the better of him. Knowing he lives alone and would really appreciate an extra helping hand, recently the hospital”s staff decided to help Mr. Pan take care of his field.

在台灣的台東，今年八十二歲的潘添財阿公，十年前關山慈院幫他治好褥瘡，三年前再度遭逢車禍，需要坐輪椅，行動不便，阿公還是努力自主生活，醫護人員知道他獨居也需要有人協助，潘永謙院長決定幫老人家一起種菜。


6.360碾米Meeting the rice mills in Tainan

Back in the old days, when Taiwan was known for its agriculture and rice production, life was particularly busy for farmers and rice millers. During harvest times, farmers would take their crops to rice grinding factories to be processed into white rice. In today”s featured series on Taiwan”s fading industries, we learn more about rice milling by going to Tainan”s Jingliao (菁寮)Village, to visit two rice factories where business has already stopped for one and the other is struggling to survive.

在過去台灣農業興盛的時期，農夫與碾米業者的生活都相當忙碌，收割時期，農夫會將收成好的稻米拿到碾米廠，碾成白米，在今天真情臉譜的專題中，我們來到台南的菁寮村，兩間碾米廠 一家已經歇業，另外一家則正努力的生存，去了解碾米行業。

1.巴拉圭義診Visiting Tzu Chi care recipients

In the City of Asuncion of Paraguay, Tzu Chi volunteers and TIMA doctors pay regular visits to their care recipients, bringing them food and organizing health check-ups. Since acupuncture is very popular in the area, acupuncturist Zhong Ruizhen (鍾瑞珍) never misses the opportunity to help the local residents.

在巴拉圭亞松森市，慈濟志工和人醫會醫師定期關懷照顧戶，帶來食物之外，更為他們做健康檢查，在當地中醫針灸很受到歡迎，因此鍾瑞珍中醫師絕不缺席，替有需要的民眾服務。


2.東松巴省發放Rice distribution in Sumba Island

Next, we go to Sumba Island located in Nu-sa Teng-ga-ra Ti-mur Province in Indonesia, where heavy rain and locusts problems have left local farmers with a poor harvest. Despite receiving rice from Tzu Chi volunteers, their faces still showed worries.

接下來的故事，帶大家到東努沙登加拉省的松巴島，因為雨量過多，加上蝗蟲災害，造成多年農作短收，為了解決居民燃眉之急，慈濟志工送來大米，不過居民的臉上還是充滿擔憂。


3.贏在起跑點(1)國小Giving children a good head start

In several months, 6 or 7 year olds in Taiwan will be entering elementary school. Many parents are giving their children a head start by sending them to talent classes at a very young age. In the first of our new series called ”One Step Ahead” on child development and how to best prepare them for the future, we find out if learning new hobbies will benefit children in the long run, and how reading is one of the best possible hobbies a child can have.

4.檳城醫療講座Tips to better care for our children

In Malaysia, at the Jing Si Books and Cafe Store in Penang, Tzu Chi volunteers held a seminar, in which tips of what to do when your child becomes ill were discussed by Dr. Feng Huizheng(馮慧徵), and what signs are indications to visit the doctor.

馬來西亞檳城的靜思書軒，慈濟志工舉辦一場醫療講座，由馮慧徵醫生分享，孩子生病時該怎麼辦？還有什麼樣的情況下要看醫生。


5.馬肯納兒義賣Autism Charity Fair held in Malacca

Kanner Association Melaka of Malaysia, hosted the Walk For Autism 2012 Charity Fair on April 29, which was aimed at raising funds for the association to build special classrooms. Tzu Chi volunteers were invited to share their knowledge on recycling work, where they encouraged the participants to give a helping hand.

馬六甲肯納兒協會在4月29日，舉辦了與自閉兒攜手同行，慈善義走暨義賣會，藉此活動為協會籌募辦校經費，以及籌建教室，配合活動，馬六甲慈濟志工也鼓勵民眾落實垃圾不落地，一起為孩子守護清潔環境。


6.浴佛新佛音New tune for Buddhist sutra

As the annual Buddha Day celebration is just around the corner, Tzu Chi volunteer Lv Ciyue (呂慈悅) and the famous music teacher Li Shouquan(李壽全) are working together with dharma masters from Hualien”s Jing Si Abode to record a new version of the Buddhist text chanted in the ceremony. Let”s take a look.

一年一度的佛誕節即將來臨，慈濟志工呂慈悅、知名音樂人李壽全，與花蓮靜思精舍的師父們，一起重新錄製浴佛偈的音樂，讓我們一起來看看。


7.八分飽林秀蘭(一)Tzu Chi Volunteer: Lin Xiulan

Taichung Tzu Chi volunteer Lin Xiulan(林秀蘭) spends much of her days taking on medical, janitorial, and recycling duties. In addition, whenever she has a free moment, she puts her sewing skills to work, to make handbags for the use of recycling volunteers, or to be later sold at Tzu Chi charity auctions. Let”s now take a look and see how Lin Xiulan is using every minute of her day, to work for the sake of others.

住在台中的慈濟志工林秀蘭，平時當醫療志工、做福田，做環保時間已經排得滿滿滿，但是她分秒不空過，善用自己的裁縫手藝，縫製手提袋，除了跟志工們結緣，還將手提袋捐給慈濟做義賣，讓我來看一看林秀蘭如何善用每分鐘布施助人。


8.360磚窯127 year-old Sanhe Kiln

In today”s look at Taiwan”s sunset industries, we introduce you to the sole-surviving traditional kiln of Taiwan. Founded in 1885, Sanhe (三和)Kiln first produced red roof tiles, that were installed in many of Taiwan”s houses at the time. However, as times changed, the kiln couldn”t keep up and was slowly marginalized. Now, one of the founder”s grandson is combining art and community building, to keep the fire burning at the 127 year-old kiln. Here”s more.

今天台灣夕陽產業的專題，我們來看看目前僅存的磚瓦燒製廠，西元1885年創立，三和瓦窯燒出來的紅瓦，曾經是當時許多房子的屋頂，但隨著時代的變遷，瓦窯跟不上時代，慢慢就被邊緣化，如今瓦窯創辦人的其中一位孫子，結合了社區營造與文化創意，要讓127歲的瓦窯裡的火，繼續燃燒下去。

In Taiwan”s Taipei, Tzu Chi volunteers tend to the victims of a tragic fire which claimed three lives and injured two people last Saturday. At the Third World Buddhist Forum held in Hong Kong last week, the Tzu Chi Foundation spokesperson He Risheng outlined Tzu Chi”s mission and practice on Master Cheng Yen”s behalf. And, residents of a community is southern Taiwan”s Tainan learn to use elevators to maintain their friendships after moving into high-rises.

1.重回火警現場Fire kills 3, injures 2

At 4pm on April 28th, a freak fire occurred around the rear of Taipei Main Station in Taiwan, resulting in three deaths and two injuries. A lit cigarette butt carelessly thrown on a pile of flammables was said to be the cause of the accident. The tightly packed shops in the commercial area allowed the fire to spread quickly, and the narrow alleys made it impossible for fire engines to reach and contain the blaze, which finally died down around midnight. The very next day, Tzu Chi volunteers arrived on scene, bringing emergency cash and emotional comfort for the 12 affected families.

28號下午4點，台北後火車站發生大火，釀成三死二傷的悲劇，火災發生的原因，是因為不小心有易燃物品點燃，釀成大火，商圈建築物緊密的排排站，大火蔓延的快，巷弄非常狹窄，消防車難以進入打火，才會讓火勢不斷延燒半夜，隔天一大早，慈濟志工也帶著慰問金，膚慰受到波及的12戶。



2.菲浴佛家訪Getting ready for Buddha Day

The Tzu Chi Philippines office plans on holding a large Buddha Day ceremony, accompanied by a large-scale aid distribution, for 5,000 families in need. To get ready, not only did volunteers pledge to go meatless for 108 days, they also personally visited each of the 5,000 aid recipient families, to better understand their needs.

慈濟菲律賓分會將在佛誕日，邀約萬人參加浴佛典禮，同時進行大米發放，預計幫助五千戶家庭，參加的志工除了要齋戒108天，也訪視這五千戶家庭 了解他們的需求


3.中正紀念堂簽約Memorandum of cooperation

Every year, the second Sunday of May, is when Tzu Chi celebrates Buddha”s Birthday, Mother”s Day, as well as the anniversary of the foundation. Since 2007, volunteers in the northern district of Taiwan, have been holding the celebration at Taipei”s Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall. Last weekend, the director of the Memorial Hall visited Hualien with a group of staff to sign a memorandum of cooperation with Tzu Chi.

每年五月的第二個星期天，慈濟慶祝浴佛日、母親節以及全球慈濟日，全球慈濟人在不同時間與地點，同步舉行浴佛儀式，期許將法喜傳遞給更多人，而從2007年以來，北部的浴佛大典都在中正紀念堂舉行，上周末，中正紀念堂管理處長，特別到花蓮與慈濟基金會簽定公益合作備忘錄。


4.香港佛教論壇Third World Buddhist Forum

The Third World Buddhist Forum was recently held in Hong Kong from April 26-27. Among the representatives from 60 countries were Tzu Chi Spokesperson He Risheng何日生 and Religious Director, Xie Weiyang謝惟暘, who came as representatives of Master Cheng Yen and the Tzu Chi Foundation.
第三屆世界佛教論壇，4/26到27日在香港舉行，六十多個國家的佛教領袖，以及學者專家出席參加研討會，包括慈濟基金會發言人何日生，宗教處主任謝惟暘也專程前往，代表證嚴法師與慈濟基金會出席。


5.福鼎環保愛灑New TC recycling point in Fuding

Chunting春亭 community in Fujian”s Fuding City, is a densely populated area. A new Tzu Chi recycling point recently opened here thankfs to Qiu Shaoning邱紹甯 and his wife Su Hualien蘇花蓮 who offered their backyard as a location. At the first get-together organized by volunteers, over 100 community residents took part.

福建福鼎市春亭社區 人口密集，慈濟志工計劃在當地設置環保點，剛好有蘇花蓮和邱紹甯夫妻二人，主動提供位於後門的空地，第一場的茶會，就有一百多位民眾來參與。


6.福鼎林亞朝Help for a paralyzed man

Staying in Fuding, in our next story we meet Lin Yachao(林亞朝), who was paralyzed from the neck down due to a fall, but found hope when Tzu Chi volunteers helped arrange a doctor to see him. Now, every week, Lin receives a therapy session with a doctor from Fuding Hospital, which has helped him make improvements in his range of movements. Volunteers hope that their efforts will help the injured man sit up by himself one day.

接下來的鏡頭繼續留在福鼎，林亞朝摔傷後，頸椎受傷癱瘓，直到遇到慈濟志工，重新燃起希望，現在每週都有福鼎的醫生來到家裏幫他復健，希望亞朝有天能夠自己坐起來。


7.北慈病患感恩Hospital holds event for staff & patients

Many patients and their families are eternally grateful to the nurses who look after them, 24 hours a day. Over the weekend, Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital held an event for patients and staff. The patients joined in to express their gratitude towards their nurses.

護理人員二十四小時照護病患，很多病患與家屬都有著說不盡的感謝，利用週末，台北慈濟醫院為病患及護士人員舉辦活動，病患來到現場，表達對護士的感謝。


8.升起天際線(5)Elevators lift community spirit

As we”ve been finding out over the past few days, the invention of the elevator helped create the tower blocks that dominate our city skylines. In high-rise residential buildings, people living on top of each other can feel isolated. But in one tower-block community in Tainan, Taiwan, the elevator has helped bring neighbors closer together. The Changrong Community was built to replace ten old military-dependents villages. Once the veterans got used to using the elevator, they quickly rediscovered their community spirit.

過去幾天我們帶大家看過因為電梯的發明，都市裡蓋起了高樓大廈，上不見天，下不著地的生活，阻隔了人與人之間的關係，但是台南這個高樓大廈，電梯卻讓大家變得更加親近，長榮社區總共容納了十個老眷村的住戶，當這些老人家用慣了電梯，讓大家的感情更緊密。


9.馬照顧戶清掃Volunteers clean up senior”s home

In our next story, we go to Kedah, which is located in northwest Malaysia, to meet a senior couple, who make a living by farming and recycling. Since the two seniors both have rheumatism, they didn”t have the extra energy to clean their house. Thankfully, Tzu Chi volunteers recruited local people to assist them. After a day of hard work, the volunteers cleared out a total of three truck-loads of garbage and recyclables.

下一則新聞，我們來到位於馬來西亞西北的吉打洲，有一對阿公阿嬤，靠著耕田和回收舊物過活，因為兩老都患有風濕症，實在沒有餘力整理居家，還好慈濟志工號召志工一起大掃除，經過一天的打掃，總共清出了三卡車的垃圾和回收物。

1.印尼小學關懷Growing up among rubbish

District Bantar Gebang, in Bekasi City in Indonesia”s West Java has the country”s largest trash dump. Children in the district grow up scavenging the waste, with little awareness of the health risks involved. Recently, a group of college Tzu Chi volunteers from Jakarta, came to the community to teach health education to the children.


印尼西爪哇，北加西市的班達格芒區，有全國最大的垃圾場，這裡的孩子從小在垃圾山中長大，對於乾淨整潔沒有具體感受，有一群大學生從雅加達來到當地，教導孩子正確的衛生習慣，保護自己。


2.亞庇師生環保Lets find some gold!

Similarly, in Sabah”s Gaya Island in Malaysia, garbage has always been a part of the residents” lives. However in recent years, with the help of Tzu Chi volunteers, slowly the island is cleaning up its act. Recently a local school also invited volunteers to give a lecture on recycling.

同樣的在馬來西亞沙巴亞庇的加雅島，多年來島上的居民與垃圾為伍，慈濟人來關懷，為島上的環保掀開新的一頁，日前當地一所中學也邀請慈濟人來說環保。


3.緬甸助貧15 days of volunteer work

Students from Taichung”s Chaoyang University of Technology in Taiwan went on a 15-day trip to Myanmar, where they volunteered for the poor, and gave out second-hand clothing and toys to those in need. The eye-opening trip gave the young adults a new perspective on life.

台中朝陽科技大學學生，到緬甸15天做志工，為貧窮人付出，還贈送二手衣物、玩具，付出過程讓同學對人生有了不同的體會與想法。


4.0426花生油(一)Peanut farmers bring over their harvest

In central Taiwan, farmers living around Dadu Mountains plant crops like peanuts and sweet potatoes, due to the limited rainfall in the area. There used to be many mom-and-pop peanut oil refineries in Shalu, which helped local peanut farmers turn their harvest into peanut oil, which fetches a better price. We now introduce you a factory that has been around for 60 years, and still insists on the making peanut oil the old fashioned way.

中台灣大肚臺地的農夫，因為地理環境缺乏水源，農民普遍種植花生、蕃薯，也因此沙鹿原本有很多花生煉油廠，幫助農夫做花生油，好賺多一點錢，現在為您介紹經營超過一甲子的花生油老店，堅持傳統老味道，持續飄香。


5.0426花生油(二)A driven peanut oil maker

The peanut oil refinery that we saw in the last piece has been in operation for over 60 years, despite facing various business challenges. Its third generation owners are doing their best to adapt and make changes to their business to keep the traditional flavor of peanut oil alive.

剛剛看到的花生煉油廠，經歷過各種挑戰，已經經營超過一甲子，而油廠的第三代正努力讓產業轉型，讓傳統的花生油香能繼續飄散。

6.升起天際線(4)Busy stairs, empty elevators

In today”s episode of our continuing series on Taiwan”s elevators, we explore energy-saving ideas. Though elevators can be designed to generate electricity as well as using it, the best way to save power is still to take the stairs.

探討台灣電梯的專題中，一起來了解 更多節能的方法，雖然電梯現在能發電，最省電的方式還是走樓梯。


7.花慈小省電體驗Students experience day without fans

Although the Earth Day has passed, Hualien Tzu Chi Elementary School continued to remind children to reduce energy use. The students experienced a day without the whirring fans and learned to value electricity and resources.

地球日剛過，花蓮慈濟小學持續宣導節能惜福活動，特地在這一天，停止吹電風扇，讓小朋友體驗沒電的生活，並學會珍惜資源。


8.衣撲滿簡麗香A new profession

Tzu Chi volunteer Jian Lixiang( 簡麗香) from Kaohsiung turns scraps of material or old clothes into beautiful bags and purses that are sold at Tzu Chi bazaars. It is her personal salute to green fashion.

高雄慈濟志工簡麗香，將丟棄的布料或是舊衣物變成精美的袋子與包包，還能拿去慈濟義賣，這個環保的嗜好，是簡麗香對綠色時尚的最高敬意。


9.萬里個案打掃New furniture for Ahan

Moving to New Taipei City”s Wanli district, Ahan is a Tzu Chi care recipient who is mentally unstable. Six months ago, Tzu Chi volunteers started visiting and caring for him. Recently, caregivers also went to help Ahan clean up his living environment.

接下來鏡頭轉到新北市萬里，慈濟照顧戶阿漢，精神方面出現了問題，慈濟志工從半年前開始陪伴關懷他，日前也動員幫忙阿漢打掃居家環境。

1.肯塔基州發放

First up in the show, the Midwest of the United States was hit by violent tornados last month, which left a trail of destruction. Recently, Tzu Chi volunteers organized a fourth distribution for the victims, this time in Butler, Kentucky. A total of 95 households, or 264 residents, received much-needed aid.

節目一開始，上個月美國中西部遭到龍捲風侵襲，造成嚴重破壞，慈濟志工來到肯塔基州的巴特勒城，舉辦第四次的發放，這次幫助了95戶總共264人。


2.檳城慶衛塞

Moving to Malaysia, Tzu Chi”s campaign to encourage the public to eat 80 percent full, and save 20 percent to help the poor made its mark on Wesak, or Buddha Day festivities in Penang, Malaysia. At the official festival, Tzu Chi volunteers helped set up the venue, and then handed out lunches during the celebration. This year, as Wesak coincided with Earth Day, volunteers took the opportunity to practice environmentalism, and promote Tzu Chi”s ”80/20” campaign.

慈濟 ”蔬食八分飽 兩分助人好”，在馬來西亞的衛塞節宣導成功，衛塞節的慶祝活動，慈濟志工佈置場地，分發餐盒，活動當天正好是世界地球日，慈濟志工特地宣導環保，也提倡蔬食八分飽、兩分助人好的理念。


3.浴佛邀請卡

Staying on the topic of Buddha Day, which falls on May 13 in Taiwan, this year Tzu Chi is encouraging participants to eat 108 vegetarian meals before the ceremony, to prepare their bodies and minds. To help people keep count, the invitation card designed by Tzu Chi has a useful checklist. Volunteers have also taken to the Internet, to better spread the message of vegetarianism.

延續佛誕日的話題，在台灣五月十三日是佛誕日，今年慈濟邀請大家一起在浴佛節前，吃一百零八天的素食，為慶典作準備，為了幫助大家記得天數，邀請卡上特別設計了勸素的格子，也透過網路，邀請大家響應素食的活動。


4.升起天際線(3)

In today”s feature on how elevators impact our lives, we examine a new type of design for lifts. Over the last few days, we”ve already seen one of the oldest elevators in Taiwan, and the fastest elevator in the world, but both are based on pulley mechanics, with bulky machine rooms. This new type of elevator is compact, and has none of the extra baggage.

在今天的專題，電梯如何影響我們的生活，我們來看一種新的電梯，這幾天來，我們看了許多台灣的老舊以及最快的電梯，但是這兩種電梯都是靠著滑輪與鋼索，並須要一間龐大的電梯機房，而這種新的電梯，不需要很大的空間，也不需要機房。

Taiwan”s Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital received two accreditations concerning food safety - HACCP and ISO 22000 - and is now the only medical institution in eastern Taiwan with the double recognition. Patients and families can dine at the hospital knowing that every bite comes from a safe and reliable source.

花蓮慈濟醫院日前獲得兩樣驗證，食品安全管制系統HACCP認證以及ISO2200 國際驗證，成為東部地區唯一獲得雙重認證的醫院，讓病患及家屬在院內享用的餐點，更有保障。


6.創意蔬食

One of the ways to better health is to have a well-balanced vegetarian diet. Also in Taiwan, recently the Taichung City government held a vegetarian cooking contest, in which businesses and students put their creativity to test, producing tasty meatless dishes that look good and are low on food miles.

均衡攝取蔬食有益健康，台中市政府舉辦蔬食創意料理比賽，不少學生、業者參加，運用創意巧思，製作一道道美味健康，低食物里程的蔬食。


7.0425傳統風箏(一)

In our featured series on Taiwan”s sunset trades, today we introduce you to the art of kite making. Traditional kites are limited in shape, but for our next story, 60-year-old kite making master, Yang Xueshi (楊學詩), from Nantou is going to show us the unusual designs he has created over the years.

在今天的真情臉譜專題中，我們要介紹風箏工藝師，傳統的風箏形狀有限，在接下來的故事中，60歲來自南投的風箏工藝師楊學詩，帶我們來認識他多年來 所設計不同形狀的風箏。


8.特技風箏(二)

Most kites have one string and can only fly if there is a strong breeze. However, in recent years, a few enthusiasts have created kites that can fly without the wind. These special kites have two strings instead of one. We meet modern kite designer, Chen Zhengting(陳正廷) to find out more.

大多數的風箏只有一條線，而且要有風才能飛的起來，不過近年來，有許多人製作沒有風就可以飛的風箏，這些特製風箏有兩條線，讓我們來認識現代風箏設計者陳正廷，來多了解新的風箏。


9.寫歌推環保

69-year-old Zeng Kunchi (曾崑池) is a retired engineer, who now spends his time composing songs to promote recycling because he believes music has the power to educate people. The pensioner even took a degree in music, and has already composed 300-400 tunes.

六十九歲的曾崑池，是位喜愛創作的退休的工程師，因為他相信歌曲能教化人心，他更進修音樂相關的課程，目前為止已經寫三四百首曲子。


10.美總會贈書

Since 2006, US Tzu Chi Headquarters has been promoting its humanitarian mission by donating Jing Si publications to libraries. By 2009, more than 5,000 Tzu Chi books could be found in more than 186 public libraries and 18 national and university libraries in the US. Recently, more of Tzu Chi”s books have been donated to some 20 libraries in southern California.

慈濟美國總會從2006年開始，致力推廣靜思人文，到2009年時，已經有186個公立圖書館，18個國家與大學圖書館，收藏超過5000本慈濟出版品，最近，南加州又有20多家社區圖書館參與典藏。
